Headcanon is that the protagonist here is some kind of demigod. It wasn't just one entity in the house, but several similar-looking ones. Every time one looked directly at the camera holder, they were annihilated. Most of these obliterations happened off camera, but you can still clearly see how the protagonist enjoys toying with the victims, refusing to leave the house, hanging one from the ceiling and causing another one to explode in a bloody mess. All recorded for another's amusement.
