So glad I watched this video Gordan ! It really cheered me up seeing you start your TC after following your journey - hope you continue to excel and enjoy the job
This is extremely useful Gordon, thanks for the insights. 👍🏾 Always good to know what you’re getting into ahead of time, an understanding of the reality is invaluable. I really appreciate this.
The past year i started working in administration and its been almost 2 months since i was transferred from HR to the legal department. The thing about how school is almost nothing if u dont practice it irl is sooo true. Ive learnt more in my 2 months of work then in my 3 years of bachelors
I finally got a job as a paralegal (in IP) but I really don't find it interesting. I was excited to qualify as a solicitor but this experience makes me think what lawyers actually do? Do they do the same repetitive tasks with no autonomy and just stressed out 24/7 because of the deadlines?
I think the nature of tasks really depends on the departments, transactional or litigation, advisory or not, the specific culture of the firm too - so I think we need to try different things to know ourselves better
Hi Gordon, this is very helpful and I wish you more success in the following seats! I'm a US JD and will be an incoming asso at one of the magic circle firms in NY. Do you plan to stay in London in the future?
@@GordonChung I saw that you already took NY bar, just wondering-is it possible for someone with that type of qualification and a HK/UK law degree background to just enter law firms as a first year US associate rather than do the two year trainee thing? I know it's harder for new grads than for senior or midyear laterals, but I did see a few firms like Sidley, STB, HSF and Sherman London office at our on campus interview, so I do know they indeed take a very small number of US JD summer associates. it is mostly just capital market or PE tho, although I know that certain firms also take banking finance ppl.
I heard of that possibility but I chose to do the 2-year training contract instead but I guess having a Ny bar qualification will help if I consider working in the USA in the future.
Hi Gordon, great video👍🏻👍🏻 Just wanted to ask do lawyers have set hours that they are scheduled to work or is it up to you to decide your hours as long as you complete your work?
It depends on the firm I guess but I assume the minimum hours of 8 hours is a norm! Also you need to meet a number of billable hours a week (tho not strict rule)
All the best in your training contract. I am loving the improved and creative video quality :D
Hahaha thank you!
Sick video and love the edit 📹

Tbh there will be intellectual stagnation at one point.
