- It's time for Mario to get a break in New Super Mario Bros U. Today we're trying to make the game a bit more difficult by attempting to beat it while always holding Mario. Can it be done? Let's find out.

I love how a challenge actually made Bowser difficult for once. And, in my opinion, seriously improved in the fight. Great work as always!

I'm... actually kinda surprised that "mini luigi holding mini mario" is even possible, and has the right collision height of one block. I figured they would have just disabled grabbing while mini, or something.

Why wouldn’t mini be able to hold mini if normal can hold normal, it’s the same thing
@@holyelephantmg8838 because programming is hard, that's why it might not happen.
@@camwyn256 it would take more programming to not be able to hold it because they would have to make it so that whenever player is mini holding is disabled
@@holyelephantmg8838 a simple flag to disable holding entirely while mini. Extra code to enable it only for holding Mario.
And even more code to properly program the animation and hit boxes
I think you could allow cannon pipes if Mario and Luigi entered them simultaneously.
But you’d have to put Mario down for that

I’ve been waiting for the day that a challenge forced you to fight bowser like this. For future reference, you can also damage him by throwing bobombs at him, or kicking bowser junior at him while he is in his shell! Don’t try this, I already have, and from what I can tell, one hit from each of these does the same damage as a hit from the fire flower!
What he hell was nintendo thinking they decided that bowser can be damaged like this? Logic doesnt exist apparently

Seriously. I was so pleasantly surprised when I found out about it.
On the Wii U version, you have a *third* win condition in the form of the Boost Star.
Mario really took getting hard-carried literally.

If I had a nickel for every time you and Nicobbq did the same challenge that no one else did. I’d have three. Which isn’t a lot, it’s just weird it’s happened three separate times.

I would've allowed yoshi-riding, myself. You'd just be forced to always have Yoshi hold Mario.

You can't say Nicobbq already did this. He did while carrying Luigi. I think the pipe cannon thing is fine. I think you shouldn't use secret exits unless necessary.
Both Mario and Luigi function the exact same though, so it’s basically the same challenge with a minor difference.

I have a challenge suggestion. What about: "is it possible to beat Super Smash Bros Brawl's Subspace Emissary without jumping?"
As you know, every character has an Up+B action that normally work as a recovery by gaining height, but not everyone's Up+B is as effective/useful as others, so given the fact that every level in that mode requires the use of specific characters, is it possible to beat every level with the characters they provide, without using normal jumps?

I didn't know Bowser could be defeated in this game by just using fire balls. That's really cool.
You could use bombs if you keep mario alive
I think you made the challenge a bit harder than it needed to be at the end. Yes you only have one hand, but you only need to press a single button on Mario, And you only need to press 3 buttons as Luigi (since spin was only necessary to shoot), so really you could just use your feet for one of them, or use a table and use one hand to press left and right on Luigi, and the other hand to press jump on Luigi and run on Mario. Hell, since it's a wiimote you could probably just hold two of them at the same time one on top of the other, and then just hold the controllers so that they are pinched between your pinky and them, leaving your pointer and middle finger on Luigi's jump and Mario's run button

When fighting bowser from the second phase you can use bowser Jr's bombombs as a way of damaging him as well

2:35 Man, swimming really needs a buff in super mario. Not only is it not crouching, it's not even holding mario either.
5:32 because this is an "always holding challenge" instead of a "Escort mission" or "Luigi wins by doing nothing" I would argue that firing out of the pipe cannon and then running to the door all without Mario is not allowed. alternatively I think that if both Mario and Luigi use a pipe cannon to get up first, that would be allowed. I would even argue that it would be allowed to bring in a third character to keep the crushers open so Mario and Luigi can go through the same pipe.
Fun fact: the Propeller Mushroom also works while holding Mario in Wii (you get the height and falling speed of the spin)

Only use secret exits to skip impossible levels, not randomly
The only thing I think is that yoshi having Mario in his mouth should count as holding him
I think technically, pipe cannons are letting go of Mario and because you can’t pick him up a the end, pipe cannons shouldn’t be allowed but that’s just me.
At least he found a way around the pipe cannons.

I’m doing a bunch of Mario challenges too(but some I can’t do because I have no capture card like you)
On the cannon pipes early on: If you let mario go in that up pipe earlier, you can let him go in these. Then just pick him up again.
Also I'd like to note I think it's funny how the whole pitch was "luigi does everything while mario does nothing" and then it just turns into them having to work together in some places while other times luigi does everything while Mario sits back and drinks a latte. 'Cause the ruleset is "Luigi cannot drop Mario" not "Mario cannot do anything"
And can the bob-ombs in phase 2 of the bowser fight be kicked into him to hurt him when they explode or do they just die on contact?
Luigi has his (and Mario's) work cut out for him eh?

Point of the run is mario does absolutely nothing. So if you drop him to enter a pipe and he doesn't bubble its fine
Do nsmb2 next, it technically has multiplayer if you have 2 3ds and 2 copies, so yeah
I'd assume you can damage bowser with the bob-ombs so TECHNICALLY I think you can still win even after getting hit...but uh...that sounds like torture and probably simper to reset unless you believe you are incredibly close to winning
