Lin Gaoyuan played some pretty awesome shots as well. Both were outstanding.
Gotta give credit to Lin Gaoyuan. He more than held his own, making tough shots to sustain rallies, and hitting winning shots when opportunities came, and not just keeping things safe and deferring to Ma Long. And you could tell that LGY was thinking too, using different spins and angles and length and power in his shots to keep their opponents off their feet. The shot he made in Game 5, down 8-9, to tie the match, was such an example, a backhand spin high arc shot that went deep and surprised Wang who couldn't make a return. That was gutsy on the part of LGY. He saw the opportunity to win the point and he took it. Lin made another deep backhand down 10-11, match point, to tie the game and avoid the loss. There were many moments like these throughout the match where Lin shined. If I didn't know these four players and their world rankings, I might even say Lin played the best in this match.

I would say no. It is good but I have seen better.

Lin made 85% of the mistakes of Ma Lin double.
Yes, he did make awesome crucial points during crunch time but Ma surely deserves more praise here. Goat carried the waggon most of the time :)
@@Mischgi where did you get that 85% statistics? lol. In doubles, that’s not even a stat you can keep because if, for example, your partner makes a mediocre bunt block, which leads to the opponent having a easy next shot, and you lose the point on your shot, who’s mistake was that? Conversely, if you make a good shot, forcing your opponent to make a poor shot in return, and your partner then gets the winning shot, who actually made the great shot to win the point. The point is, in doubles, you play as a pair. I stand by what I wrote above. To me, LGY probably played the best in this championship match. He and Ma Long were great together and that was the key to their win.
@@joncaju Hmmm, I may need to reanalyze their game but I still think LGY made more unforced errors. They are a great double, either way, but Xu Xin is still the best with Ma :) Do you agree that Fan played more poorly than Wang in this doubles?
@@Mischgi Yes, Fan was off in this match. I didn't want to say it in my original comment above, but I thought he played the poorest among the four players and likely affected Wang's playing as well. What I said about LGY stemmed largely from how he surprised me by his level of playing in this doubles championship match. He and Ma Long played very well together as equal partners; even if one of them made a poor shot, they recovered and moved on. In contrast, I didn't feel that same camaraderie between Wang and Fan in this match for whatever the reason.
Fan has been off for quite some time now, he even lost to Lin Shidong in singles in R64. Wang is better than him now and much more eager, their rivalry is stronger than Ma and Lin @@joncaju

13:42 The commentator made a good point. Ma Long can try all the creative shots he wants but that affects your doubles partner as well. Two times it happened that Ma Long's unorthodox shots caused trouble for Lin Gaoyuan himself: 4:43 and 13:31
Lin tried to be proactive. This is both good and bad. I don't agree that Ma is guilty of this.
Lin was supposed to attack it like he did on Ma Long's 3rd unorthodox shot (18:58).

Too many people don't understand this concept! How you play, how you move, shot choice & ball placement affects your partner! Doubles is a Team sport! There's no I in Team! You must aid/help each other!
Best video edit, best on court comments/technical info/TT history, best angle on marvellous/incredible matches. What a far cry from years ago when we could only read minimal news on paper. Wonderful for TT lovers. That said, only if you actually play but seriously. Congrats from Sydney Australia.

18:59 Check the crazy body motion of Ma Long executing that magic chop block. Just amazing physically a 35+ years old body could still twist and lift off his legs so much to absorb the energy of the fast topspin on the ball so it could land softly close to the net leading to the crucial point. In terms of difficulty, this shot is just out of this world. Hope this was not the last impression the dragon left to all the TT fans.
I'm praying Chinese coach will allow Ma Long to play in Paris. He has earned the opportunity and deserves it.

26:58 I agree with Fraser Riley. Wang Chuqin is number 4 when it comes to touch. Wang Chuqin specializes in explosive shots, not touch.
LGY does surprisingly much mistakes on normal bh blocks. Especially on this level. Also his serves got read easily most of the times.
When it went toe to toe, Ma Long still hold his ground much more calm, with overview and experience. Great play from the Goat!!
