I really think I like these two. Both are great in their own way. I think these can be used not only for custom builds, but the chassis can be used for all kinds of new builds.
A great honest review. I am a huge 47 year old WPL fan, and I love the D12, so I would go with the 2WD with the chrome bumper to enjoy on concrete and in the house to chase the cats!
@@AMPROEngineering I wander if they're trying to offer a "similar to" FMS scale looks with the added "customizablility" and at a slightly lower cost... It is hard to "categorise this two, I agree.
Thanks for the review! I can appreciate what they are doing and I do like the 4WD D-chassis. I would love to see them use this chassis and make an off road van, not using the D42 van but maybe an early 90s boxy Mitsubishi Delica van. I would definately go for that. MST I think made one but I don’t see anything about them now. BTW- The V6 Pinto at 13:15 is cool! Would love to see more of that. I wouldn’t mind WPL use the rwd chassis for a drift car or an American muscle car.
I would love to see a bigger 1/10 van too. I love the Kei vans but man I could go for a Hiace or even early Falcon Econoline. I will need to post more of the Pinto, hahah!
Nice little trucks, and clever repurposing of an existing chassis. I am not so sure about wanting to get one of these, but I don't think they need justification. The thing I love most about the WPL offerings is that they are great to share with family, in my case nephews and nieces. I can just hand them over and say, knock yourselves out.
When the first wok c24 came out I bought both versions and a lot of upgrades then sold off everything a year ago I wasn’t happy with what I created but now wpl has the wpl c24-km kit I’m going to buy that kit and restart and try again I’m sure you know about the upgraded kit
Very impressive the platform is wide open for so much customization. But I will have to ask the wife if we can get a few dew to so many wpl's which i have so many of and some still in the boxes, thanks am pro for the showing of a new platform of more fun.merry Christmas
Great video, as always. I think I feel the same way. They are almost too equidistant between two different things. The 2WD one just seems a mismatch. It lacks the quirky appeal of the vans and pickups, and doesn't offer the superior off road ability the body suggests (in fact it's worse if anything, the vans and pickups have a locked rear diff) I do think the 4WD one could be a decent all rounder if it had a more suitable gear ratio and maybe a locked rear diff. Even the hard tyres could work ok for moderate off roading, there's a video on YT of one of the D series vans with a 4x4 chassis swap, but still running the stock hard tyres and it hooks up ok on mild terrain. I feel like it's frustratingly close to being something slightly more. Never a serious off roader but at least some scale ability. Obviously hamstrung by the motor and gear ratio. No doubt it would have been financially prohibitive to make a different transmission just for this model. I'm sure there will be people who will mod it and make it a little more capable, that's what these things are all about, after all.
You nailed it, it is "frustratingly" close to something but I don't know what. I will say that as a drift car, the 4WD was awesome but then I look at the body....i is just a strange dichotomy.
I like them, I think. Struggling to justify a use for it though, can't imagine it'll be hugely more capable than my d12 offroad now that that has offroad wheels Shame the doors dont open, not that WPL do that normally but still Need something to take on holiday for snow but just not sure this is it
Great, comprehensive review as always, thanks. Edit: Were you filming and driving when you took it out (eg. carpark) or did you have a helper? Very nice footage and careful driving! Edit Edit: OMG that 2WD GOES!
Great review, thank you. I really don't know what to think of these trucks. I don't fancy a drifting pickup. Or a fast crawler. Short of doing some major mods to change the body, or change the drive train I'm at a bit of a loss. Looking forward to seeing what you do with it. 👍
Kinda just wished they'd give us a crawler version of the kei vehicles that everyone seems to want. I don't want to have to buy 2 wpl's to make a kei truck/van crawler. 😅
I'm surprised, too. I like my D42 but would prefer it to be 4x4. The D64 chassis looked ideal initially but they have kept that same gutless power plant and transmission. I might just end up doing a cut and shut like so many others have, but I would have preferred a nice clean factory option.
Great review, thanks a lot for the video! I ordered the Samurai away but I wasn't sure for one of these and you helped a lot understanding what they are for.. Maybe I'll get one of these bodies, maybe.
Looks like they have better "standard" suspension than a normal... Give it a 6 cell and i think you'll have a ball.. Maybe a solid front axel.. as well... 😉😋
I really like this casting. There's only one thing that I hate, is that the lower arm is too low so it easily hits rocks. Hopefully they revise it so it's more functional..
Well that was one of the oddities for me on this. It is an onroad only car like the other D series. This is counter intuitive as the body makes it feel offroad.
@@AMPROEngineering hello. I was a little fast. The connector looks the same but is wider like it's 3s but both are 2s. The gel blaster hasn't the balance connector.
With the new D64 out, can you replace the phillips hardware with metric hex? These seem like a great bang for the buck. Probably order my first WPL today.
Well these are all thread forming screws (m2.5) and I have never seen hex's like that. The hardware is pretty good on these though. I have been testing the D64 and its pretty good.
Since the D64-1 is not really that good looking, nor that capable, it´d seem like the D62 is the most compeling of the two... until you see that axle/wheel poking out of the fenders. Surprising miss from WPL. But after so many wins, there had to be a dud in there sooner or later. On the other hand, I can´t wait to get one of the Suzuki Jimny "Samurai" which is a gorgeous body... [and fix the suspension geometry, which looks quite whack🙃]
Correct me if I’m wrong as I don’t own any of them, but from what I can tell watching videos, these seem to have a more solid suspension and less bounce right out of the box compared to the c24 yes? I think it’s a pretty solid trail truck. Maybe can do some small climbs, but ain’t gonna have much flex. Again correct me if I’m wrong.
Correct. Though they are not dampened, they have a lot less travel so there is less flex and bounce. I do hesitate thinking these will work on trails though, they are geared way too high. Hard dirt, yes, but that's about it. I know, seems counter intuitive for sure but trust me, its an onroad car.
Too small and too fast for me to do anything with really. Their crawler trucks are my thing since they are fun to paint and weather but can go out and run around outside and be fun. These I'd be stuck indoors with. They did an amazing job on the details as always though, just need to be about 50% bigger!
How well does it scale with the 1/18 fms landcruiser as you said it looks small next to the 1/16 wpl landcruiser. Does it look more to scale with the fms one?
The FMS LC is very small by comparison. It is the same scale as the WPL LC but the FMS one is a lot smaller. I compare the LC's in episode 410 at 20 min, 30 sec into it to get a feel of the size.
I think WPL really intends people to costumize them, hence the white bodies. I'd love a little improvement on electronics, that buzzing engine kills me... 😅
Can i mount a Gyro on the 2wd version? Could be fun to drift innside the house.. And wpl has a 9usd Control unit that is more silent, can it be used on this car?..
I do not know if the stock esc/receiver will work with a gyro. If the gyro is in line with only the servo, i mean it should work but I have never tried it. I would not waste your money on that control unit, it is no better than the stock one.
how does the track width compare to the D12 chassis ? They are listed as being narrower than the other D chassis on the site, but I was hoping to do a 4x4 bruder sprinter conversion. Is it possible to combine a D64 and a D12 to get the track width in a 4x4 ?
they are about the same. chassis with similar wheels (these may be inboard more) but if you want it under a Bruder, should be the same as putting a 2WD d series under one.
Hey Dude👋 do you think the normal street bumper would fit on the wide body? Thinking a mini truck style drifter with flared body to clear the wheels but the stock bumper 🤔
Hiluxs? small ones? Can I use them to replace my blood? I'll have to pick up a 64, probably the -1. It'll look great along side my fleet of 1/16 scale RC tanks. Would love to see a topper shell for em.

Yeah them and FMS seem to nail that.
So glad you got early release on this 🙌, the insight you give is hands down the best for new products.
Well thank you!
I really expected more, but it has a lot of potential, it's good looking, I want that body for my C series😆

I would say the speed of each are appropriate, same with the Kei trucks. The 4wd is pretty smooth too but not as smooth as the 2wd.

Nice intro to the D6x models. Well done.

No, no, no, lol! That was what I thought too. It is an onroad truck
Yes these bodies are nice I wish it had a axle in front like the rear thanks for sharing these trucks I had no idea they were out
