Me and my habit of analyzing, deconstructing, researching and info-dumping about every little bit of information i've collected on my favorite movies and TV shows (both animated and live action) through paragraph after paragraph of writing just realized this is a degree i should probably look into when i'm old enough to go to college LMAO

Hi Zac, I'm looking forward to see your next videos on this channel. A proper film studies approach is missing from the video essay community on UA-cam so this could be a great start in that direction! I would particularly love to see a well made introduction to Delleuze's cinema books and maybe Stanley Cavell's philosophy. Thank you for your time in putting this channel together!

      Hi Alex,
Thank you for your kind message. I’d definitely be keen to make an introductory video essay to Deleuze and Cavell so stay tuned for those!
      All best, Zach

Wow! It's great to see a channel like yours come to YT.
I wondered if have studied / have any thoughts on films like Koyaanisqatsi and Powaqqatsi. Where is their place in modern cinema? What do their aesthetic qualities serve versus mainstream contemporary cinema? Do they have a particular historical context that leads fewer films like them to be released?
    Looking forward to more!

      Hi Will,
Apologies for the delayed response. Thank you for your kind words, and for raising some very interesting questions. I have seen Koyaanisqatsi, but not Powaqqatsi (it’s on my list). Although I haven’t studied them directly, I have studied the aesthetics of experimental urban/landscape/environmental films. This general topic is discussed well by Scott MacDonald, particularly in his books "The Garden in the Machine" and "Avant-Doc". I believe he mentions Koyaanisqatsi in the former.
I’m planning on making videos on these types of films at some point in the future, as I wrote my master’s dissertation on a similar topic, so hopefully I’ll be able to expand on the questions you raised in those!
      All best, Zach

I’ve been wanting to go the rout of teaching and being able to make films on the side history is very important to me so I’m leaning more towards that side. Do you have any advice for people earlier in their studies?

I love movies and they entertain me and I love the history of film. It just is so interesting. I wanna analyze films, but I am a little slow. I have autism and ADHD and I wasn’t properly educated. A lot of the words you said here went over my head. Is there some help for someone that struggles with reading and writing but loves film? I want to understand them better, what makes them good, what makes them bad, and why I like them. I just have a hard time. Thank you for your video!

An intelligent and sensitive introduction to the various facets of film studies which clearly outlines how films can be examined from different perspectives, any one of which can provide further insight. I have subscribed and look forward to catching up with more. It doesn't shout but it does convey a deep love of the medium - a tricky combination. Well done.

thinking of taking creative writing or film study for this spring. I'm already taking 211 writing so I don't think I wanna deal with anymore writing and film studies seems fun. I already have background in creating videos as self taught so I think this could help with that. We will see

I'm here in 2024 bc I'm interested in film preservation. I'm 40 and only have a G.E.D. My fear tells me I'm not good enough, I'm not smart enough, I'm not rich enough. Also that I'm too old. But my heart tells me that old films are my passion and I'd love nothing more than to do my part in saving them. Here's hoping I get to achieve my dream career. God bless 🙌

Hey I’m thinking of doing film studies for a levels. What career paths in the film sector would be open for someone who does not pursue film for university?

    • @ZacharyXavier
      @ZacharyXavier  2 роки тому +1

Hello, you don't need a degree in film to work in the film industry so I'd imagine any career path is open to you - although that's easier said than done!
