I was actually on Filch's side in the second book when he wanted to punish Harry for spreading mud around.
Harry: It was only a little bit of mud!
Filch: Yes, it's only a little bit of mud to you, but to me, it's an extra hour of scrubbing!
Yeah, I would definitely be pissed if I were in Filch's shoes.

They go to school in an area of the world that is extremely rainy and muddy. And Harry was made to clean mud all the time by the Dursleys. To him, a little extra work was preferable to other things Harry had been punished with. I don't agree with him getting on any student for mud, but the Weasley twins' dungbombs, yeah he had a right to be angry about those.

I think it would be far more merciful for squibs to have the choice when they’re old enough to have a memory charm placed upon them to make them forget about the wizarding world as I cannot imagine the frustration one must feel seeing your parents and siblings be capable of such feats of power but always unable to do so because of how you were born.
Fortunately squibs seem very rare when compared to muggleborns but even so, it seems one of the cruelest and loneliest existences one can have to be so close to greatness and unable to grasp it all the same.

    • @panspermiapancakes
      @panspermiapancakes Рік тому +7

The only issue with asking for a memory charm is that you'll no longer be part of your parents life or any of your family if you go that route.
Ironically, Muggleborns are more common but all of them are descended from Squibs that integrated into muggle society, some of them are a few generations removed from the squib ancestor, but that is how Muggleborns obtain magic. So, squibs have the ability to accidentally pass on magical traits.

If the wizards knew more about the muggle world and at least they tried to send their squib children in the muggle school it wouldn't be so bad.
But imagine a Weasleys kid going to a muggle school, while having parents that have no clue how to use a phone or traditional mail and live in a hut falling apart in a middle of nowhere. I see being a squib is very similar to being disabled. The magic world is wonders but it's also backward in a lot of ways. In days of old disabled people were wheeled into rooms and locked out of society. Speaking as a disabled person myself this is throwing away a perfectly good resource. I'm writing this on Dragon NaturallySpeaking. Squibs could be excellent spies. Magic people seem clueless about how to get on in the Muggle world. Did you see Mr. Weasley in the subway station, Utterly clueless. And he was supposed to be some sort of study of Muggle artifacts. Makes you wonder how clueless the rest of them are. Disabled people have to find ways around things that other people can't even see. Squibs would make great intermediaries or guides for stranded witches or wizards. In return magical folk could help them out in hard times. Oh well, the more things change the more they stay the same. People are people magical or not.

Squibs seem to be the same as Wiccans. They’re born to family of real witches but don’t have any magic/powers of their own. They practice ancestral magic (that’s why they hang out in cemeteries) and familiar magic (temporarily absorbing magic from relatives) this I why witches wear black, to protect their magic from being absorbed by others.

First of all, I am a squib who's doing quite well. So, I dont mind it. 😅 Second, maybe Petunia is a squib. If squibs still have the ability to pass the wizard/witch gene on to their offspring (the narrator doesn't talk about this), then maybe a squib can be born to muggle parents who aren't aware of their magical lineage. And the squib has siblings born with the abilities because of said lineage - like Hermione (I dont know if there is magic in her ancestry). 🤔 Her abilities had to come from somewhere.

I wouldn't want to be a squib because why would I want to be in the wizarding world if i'm not able to use magic and really contribute to the wizarding world? I would honestly feel depressed being in the wizarding world, being so close to it, yet not being able to use their magic and contribute to their society.

If it was an ok family then at least when grown I could still get them to send me magical transport like a port key in order to visit them at holidays. No dealing with planes! But it would still suck to know magic was real & not be able to do it. Definitely I wouldn't continue living in a wizard town.

I would rather choose the easier but grey option which is to just simply not live at all, you could say this option is "a cowards way out" but I beg to disagree, as living as a squib in the muggle world depending on your race, sexuality or gender you're still gonna face some type of discrimination in the same way as if you were a squib in the magical world the only key difference would be that; if you're a squib in the muggle world you wouldn't know magic....
so for example if I was born a squib but I was still black, trans & gay, adhd, autism ect; I'd still face racism for being black, I'd still face Homophobia & transphobia and every other type of discrimination you can think of difference is I'd face these discriminations just as a muggle in a mundane way without magic...
if I was a black trans gay squib with mental health issues but chose to live in the magical world I'd still possibly face the same discriminations that I'd face in muggle world but the main/most discrimination I'd face or be focused in is me being a squib as apposed to me being black, trans, gay and disabled mentally.
So, having said all this I'd rather just not exist in any of these worlds 🤷🏿‍♂️

Or is just awareness of its existence enough to let them see through the anti-muggle enchantments around the place? Otherwise I can't imagine the sadness of a Sorting Hat gently outing someone happening....poor guy.
