Lol, I was about to say. Morag with Aegeon perfectly fits the "Katana" archetype since he's a story Blade. Well, almost perfect, she doesn't betray the party but she is an antagonist to start with.
On the betrayal thing: This archetype has a real penchant for fighting former friends. Jin has to kill Pellegri, Dunban nearly does the same to Mumkhar, Lao betrays the BLADEs and Jin kills Haze while also fighting with Mythra. Morag and Nagi don't really have this conundrum although I suppose the Brionac arc does lead to Morag fighting quite a few ardanian soldiers.
Jin killing Haze was a mercy killing more than anything. She hated Amalthus more than anyone else and was forced to spew his bullshit, missing part of her very core crystal because of him. Jin freed her
Citan Uzuki is probably my fav. The scene where hes talking to Fei when hes in solaris only to then reveal his true intentions is one of my favorite moments in any xeno game
Dunban is the coolest let’s be honest What’s a more badass entrance than walking down a vertical hill killing mechon and saying (sorry I kept you waiting) with a calm voice
Personally id call the archetype the Master Swordsmen since they dont all use katanas all the time(one even uses a spear) but they are all masters in there respective martial art.
I like the idea! I feel like this character gets split into three in XC2. Zeke has a fair few Dunban heroic scenes (even if most are comedic), is a decendant of Torna and tries to be (and in some ways is) a male role model to Rex.
@@omensoffate Final Fantasy: Spirits Within (The CGI movie) bombed so hardcore for Square, that it completely changed their outlook for future titles being developed. I just call these guys the "citan incarnations" since it basically all started w/citan speaking of which, I took jin of torna as xenoblade 2's citan incarnation and not morag, one of jin's attacks as a boss even looked similar to one of citan's sword deathblows
Update because Xenoblade 3. Spoilers This time the archetype is weird. Ethel is Morag 2.0, Aresha is a suicidary Dunban (having the same art name) and we have many traitors (like joran) character but no katana. The closes think to Jin story is N and N have a katana like sword. So I chose him for the archetype. N is a past version of Noah one of the protagonistes. He became ouroboros many times in the past but many times he also lost his girl friend M. M was a past version of Mio. Their name are Noah and Mio but I use M and N because it's easier to understand. One of his past live he made a child with M (I call him Noah jr) despite that M died. Soon aftef N as well. He says goodbye to his son in heartbreacking cutsceen. After that Z the chief of the bad guys propose a deal. He give to N the choice of live for ever with M. In exchange he need to kill his city. N accept and became Mobius with M. After a while M passed away for saving Mio (present version of Mio). N get mad for loosing his girl friend. After be defeated by the main cast he fun away. He fight one last time the party member but this time he accept what M trully whished. Inside Noah he didn't moove until the end of Z fight. There he desapear with Z for stoping what he doing.
Witch Jin. The blade BADASS in Xenoblade Chronicules 2 who Can control all the élémentary particules Or the other. The XC2 jin could be in this categorie.
i've always loved how Citan is the polar opposite of that trope where this massive jerk is a nice person all along; He's very friendly; but is kinda of a PoS. He does a lot of pretty bad things and doesnt speak up when it would only help and be ok to do so. he also tends to say pretty cruel things. it's kind of interesting how likable doc is when you consider he lets the protagonist eat human flesh without telling him until after he's eaten it.
I brought this up in conversation with some friends and realised that Xenoblade 3 has a few candidates for this trope (forgive me, I haven't played Saga yet) -Ethel is definitely a mentor-ish character everyone looks up to, but is removed from the plot very early -Riku fits the "knows everything somehow despite pretending to be just some guy" thing Citan has but is otherwise just a Nopon, unless you count the fact that he carried Lucky Seven for 1000 years and didn't use it -Noah and N fit the cool guy with a katana archetype, and technically N does betray the City while Noah's arc is about NOT doing that, but ehhh they fill a more protagonisty role and Noah doesn't know anything until he finds it out during the story -Shulk is heavily referencing Dunban in FR and DOES know everything but I feel like this is mostly an homage to Dunban specifically, paired with the fact that of course he knows everything, Rex does too. And Rex doesn't feel nearly as similar to the archetype in FR. -Ashera similarly feels like she's only referencing Dunban and also has her entire arc feel unrelated to this archetype entirely. She's not Dunban, she's her own person and only has vague similarities to him like the way she speaks being strangely eloquent for the type of person she is. I think the most accurate comparison to the archetype in 3 who makes the most sense is A, A just feels right in all aspects. Strangely good at everything, knows everything, withholds information from Matthew to let him figure things out on his own, katana wielder, utilises evasion as a mechanic (this is moreso a xenoblade thing), and is also just. really cool. I have to state that again in case it wasn't clear. A's cool as hell.
Waiting for Luxin to review XB DE, and hear his thoughts on the main story not having any changes as we hoped it would. Also to explain what the fog enemies are and how it connects to the future.
Dunban because he doesn't let anything stop him from staying and fighting like a badass, not an angry god wanting him to get his unclean hands off his Monado, not even crippling his dominant arm by refusing to get his unclean hands off that god's Monado until the god finally musters enough strength to cripple his arm.
Hard to say, but it seems like drivers and blades are more powerful on average than most homs. Of course Dunban isn't an average hom but Morag + Brigid seems like it would be overwhelming even for him
to be fair to morag, brighid is sort of a katana blade though a dual katana when the blades are in "sword" mode and not "whip" mode. morag also(even in the other comments) is recommended to be given Aegeon, the ''other jewel"of the empire just like hugo in xc2ttgc
Xenosaga III was the most incredible character design evolution on the series. It actualy goes from terrible (I) to more terrible yet (II) to effing AMAZING! (III). God knows what happen there!

Uhhh... I'm not entirely sure Morag should be amongst these folks, not because shes not cool or anything; Only because the VERY OBVIOUS CHOICE, JIN is there, much more Katana guy, yknow? He is part of the group during a few points and is even playable in the DLC
Luxin, since you finish all xeno games, how about making a video talking about some of the misconceptions or some of the so called plot holes in the games?

Lol, I was about to say. Morag with Aegeon perfectly fits the "Katana" archetype since he's a story Blade.

zeke is a clear callback to bart fatima though and not citan, who these sword users all stem from

How about “Blade Badasses”
this
In the universe of the first Xenoblade, Dunban is a protagonist who ended his own adventure and became the Hero of Homs.
