- My tasty Irish soda bread recipe is made with buttermilk and it’s the perfect homemade recipe from Ireland. It has a lovely filling with a beautiful cakey consistency. It’s also super easy to prepare compared with yeast-based bread because there is no proofing time required.
If you’re new to baking, my easy soda bread recipe is a great bake to start off with. The buttermilk and baking soda raising agent makes this a traditional Irish loaf of bread which you’ll find all over Ireland.

Ingredients for my traditional soda bread recipe with buttermilk:
- 175g Strong white bread flour
- 175g Wholemeal flour
- 1 tsp Bicarbonate of soda
- 25g Butter
- 250ml Buttermilk
- 2 tbsp Treacle

I think that treacle is noy a vital ingredient. It gives the marvle effect, but you can do without it I put a tablespoon of honey.
