Stay in the Woods,
Dan
A very universal knot. Hopefully a lot of men will spend time with their sons and daughters learning some this and all you do. Thanks again.
In 53 years of Scouting, the Tautline is my favorite knot. This modification on the standard tautline is very cool.
Agreed. I probably used a taut line hitch more than any of the other basic Scout knots (except maybe the bowline). But I found it tended to slip in nylon cord. Dan's mod looks like it'll fix that.
Cool looks like updated tautline hitch, a bit more secure.
Liked before watching.
Because I just know.
Thank you for showing this knot. Just a suggestion: if you leave a loop including the cut end it would be easier to release
A modified tautline hitch, aye golly!

Beat me to it, Jack! Modified, but almost identical.
@@randy-9842 Aye. I haven’t tested this yet, but don’t expect to find much difference. Maybe, but not expected.

@@jackvoss5841 Me too. One other modification that I do like to the tautline hitch is to run a bite (loop / bunny ear) through the last pass -- it still holds well, but just tug on the loose end and it comes apart as easily as my shoe laces.
This is always useful with setting up tents and/or tarps. Makes keeping them in place a whole lot easier.
nice version, the tautline is probably the second mot used knot I use all the time
I watch a lot of videos about different knots, so much so I feel like an expert. However as soon as I get into the field my brain melts and I end up with something that.... erm... I`m not sure what it is, but it holds. I call it a noob knot.
Same here 🤔
Its always easy at my desk. Then when i set up my shelter….. hot mess
Constant rehearsals man. You revert to your lowest form of training
Practice, practice, practice. Just like cursive writing. It gets purty with practice.
If you can’t tie a knot; tie a lot !! Lol😂
Well I haven’t seen this variation of the taut line hitch before, but I like it 😊 May I also suggest checking out the Farrimond hitch, which has the benefit of having a quick release. 👊 😊 Thanks, Dan! 🇺🇸
Tautline hitch
Yes, very similar to a tautline hitch
I use that for tarps and pegs. I use bungie cord in the system to help with wind gusts. That one and the prusik are 70% of what you need to know.
Perfect knot for hanging my hammock
Give this comment a like if you'd like to know why it's called "CoalCracker".
Ok I’ll save it and try it out but I’ve forgotten more knots than I can remember. I appreciate your sharing your knowledge and experience.
You know knotting, John Snow. But srsly, this is one of a few of must-know knots. I hadn't seen this variant before though. Thanks!
Interesting. Very good. Thank you sir!
Very cool knot
Crochet!!! Too cool-I can see good things for this.
Thank you. This was an aweseome video. Thank you!
This knot's gonna need a name...
That's the Dan-dy knot.
l think he called it a one line slider, or something like that.
Great video.
TY and God Bless!!! Great Knot!
AWESOME, I like that 👍👍👍👍👍 Thanks ! Alan 🇨🇱
Liked, subscribed, and great knot!
Nice!
Half Constricted Taught Line Hitch? Whatever it is, it's cool.
Very Interesting on a prusik or barrel knot. Thanks o7
Nice
Works very well without the "X" too. Just 2 wraps under and one above
mishu - two wraps under and one outside sounds like the taut line hitch. 🤔
hope i remember this. good to tie stuff off in the back of my tacoma 👍👍👍👍
Ive been using a upside fire for camping awhile now. Ive been using thumb sized, pencil sized and pencil lead sized twigs. Plus dried leaves. Could you make a video on setting this up. I keep resorting too premade fire making methods. I want too use my ferral rod or zippo lighter or bic lighter.
Combo tautline and midshipmen hitch
👍👍
That's exactly the not I use for tensioning guy lines
I've done something like that..
Pretty close to a four in hand necktie knot.
👍👍👍👍👍👍
Seems to me the standard taut line hitch would get the same result.
So it's a taut line hitch that won't slip? Interesting if it works for my tarp. I've had issues with regular taught line hitch slacking up over time.
fonimer - there’s videos on here describing and demonstrating the “adjustable grip hitch”. lt takes some practice in finishing and snugging it up. Once you catch on to how it works it holds better than the taut line hitch. Its not hard.
That's a modification of a taut line hitch.
I just use a taut line hitch.
If you only go around once would it be a not knot?
why didn't you use a taut line
To jack voss 5841 ..didnt mean 2 give u thumbs down ..shaky fingers ..(old age) 😅

I'm a retired fireman and I hated ropes and nuts.Absolutely.Hated him.Anyway we used to have a special knot in the fire service called TAL That's short for tie a lot. Also, we were trained with ropes and knots. And a Knot isn't a knot until there's a safety knot at the end It's a little joke any firemen will know what i'm talking about
Hey
I'm not fond of single end loading prusik knots. They tend to get soft and sloppy because they are made for double line load. It would be better to use one of the inherently single line friction hitches like blake's hitch, adjustable grip hitch, camel hitch or tarbuck hitch.
First view
That looks like a prussic knot.
Nicely done on video and showing off how too make it...
