  • The above question is a tricky one-and is not uncommon for us to hear at TimesTicking. It’s also not uncommon for the first battery in a watch to last longer than its replacements. So ahead, we’re going to break down this topic to help clear the air.

    i think it depends on the size of the battery too and the quality of the movement . i have a 40 year old watch that still runs around 5 years on a battery .

    Can you replace a battery that has the same size and will fit to your current quartz movement, But doesn't have the same voltage because the older one is LR which is alkaline and the new one is SR which is Silveroxide will it damage the movement?

    My cheap digital Armitron with basic functions. That was about $8 new has been running for more than 10 years. I almost never take it off.

      i have a cheap digital i was wearing in the 90s and i thought i would put a battery back in it and its working fine . has no moving parts except the pushers i guess . sometimes less is more . i also have a citizen watch from the 70's and its still ticks away year after year , decade after decade .

    I heard some modern quarts watches actually disconnect the battery when pulling the stem for storage. True?

    All of my adult life (over 50), I have killed my watch battery after just a couple of weeks. No matter how inexpensive or expensive. I am careful with them and I really wish that I didn't have this problem. I would love to know what you think.

    Is it worth it to replace a quartz movement in a watch that cost about $200.00 new. What would they charge for that.

    Times Ticking, are all the watch batteries the same quality? I went to replace my watch battery (Bulova) and the guy charged me $30+ tax because was he was replacing the old battery with a Swiss battery , which he said are a lot better and it should last at least 3 years. Is this true? Thank You, for your answer in advance.

    • @TimesTicking
      @TimesTicking  9 місяців тому +1

      @diose0078 Can't speak for other brands, however, we use Swiss Renata and 2 to 3 years sounds accurate - depending on movement and complications. Take care.

    When not in use I usually stop my watch and turn on again. Is this harmful? Does it prolong the life of the battery?

    It's weird.....but I seem to be a guy that sucks the energy out of my watches. It's been that way my whole life. I BLAZE through batteries, and I have a dozen of them now. It's so bizarre.
    Is that even a thing???

      I switch between an everyday watch with a silicone band and a stainless watch. Both Seiko. It seems like I'm changing batteries every 6 months. It seems like batteries used to last lears, but the newer stainless watch stopped after about a month.
