Tommy witnessed an attack like this, when he was a bouncer. The difference was, the guy stabbed the other guy in the head. It looked like a punch, no one ever saw a knife. It only than was clear that it wasn't a punch but a knife attack, as blood squirted out of guys head. Thats the moment you realise that all of that trapping stuff is unrealistic as hell.
" Intercepting" , wherher its his motion or intent. Many Other JKD channels don't show enough of it. " Train That All The Time".....Well Said. Well Done.👍
True, but if someone is trying to "sneak attack" via front attack with hands in the pocket, it becomes less sneaky. People who attack aren't always doing it in the best way, and it's our job to take advantage of their sloppiness.
*Thomas's straight to the point, no bull, lesson. Thanks so much for opening our eyes about this. Distance control is so important. Btw, I have a bit of a challenge in sparring against another JKD person, as soon as I throw a kick, the partner jams me in by closing in as soon as I throw the kick and starts throwing a flurry of punches. Backing out is not always possible as there are multiple people sparring in the room and there are many walls too. Any idea on what could be the best way to throw side kicks without getting jammed or to at least limit getting jammed? Thanks Thomas!*
Thomas, let me draw a scenario: imagine you are playing soccer and you hit a guy, immediately the guy get up and he's already in front of you face ti face talkin shit bout your mother he s gonna beat y9u, or he simply pushes you, you didn't have time to, you didn't excpected. It happend once in school, a big guy just took my head and shaked me, Ii was smaller, didnt do anything. So the question, how to make some room, create distance, great video, but stil in doubt .
@@AikiCircus Does not change the fact that you are close to him while he might have a knife or some other deadly weapon. You have to get him on the ground first which takes a step or two.

That's nuts. The man was lucky because he was cut in the face and not stabbed in the neck or stomach.

@@ThomasMarxJKD did Tommy deal with the attacker?
No classical mess, no fancy movements, just straight business!!...💪
It’s so simple and direct most people see this and dismiss it because they have bought into all the bs mixing arts nonsense

Another excellent video. Thanks Thomas. IFO . Love it!!!
So bait the opponent to enter space. When he expand you contract when he contracts you expand.
Great video! Thanks for addressing this topic, super important!
Great video Thomas 👍🏻
Its impossible to train attributes against sly & sneaky attacks ,especially close in

Save your time and just say keep your safety distance. Like driving a car to keep a safe distance. Right?
You also need to know how to attack from distance, but not telegraph...
The next problem is, after you land a hit or intercept there attack, what next?
Bjj obviously. Take him to the ground and spend 5 minutes trying to submit a guy with a knife. Lolz
Do whatever you can. Ikkyo is a basic technique in jiujitsu/Aikido/whatever to pin an attacker.
@AikiCircus
Why grapple on the street especially if he has a knife? Bad idea.
@@SuperMaryu767 please don't confuse pinning with grappling.

I'm nor sure if this tournament has claimed that it represents anything related to self defense. So why is the JKD community scammed?
