Avon/Swan River 2024 - Tuesday 30th July - TiTrees Wetherall Park to Superchute @0.65m

Only two wrong channels and they were both deliberate :P

TiTrees begin at 18:02 and start off fairly easy besides the hard right at the ford (21:54)
The channel at 36:58 is where I went in the last video and only just made it around the stuck out branch coming from the right side, today I think it was too fast flowing to avoid the branch so I took the straight ahead channel instead - still difficult with the angled trees later on (37:26) but probably the best way..
Poor Dad had a swim at 1:07:51, he thought I told him to go there woops sorry!
At 1:33:22 there is a nasty tree, the 'Jump Tree' - below 0.65m and you can go under it on the right, and above 0.7m you can jump over it easily - but today at exactly 0.65m you can see its a bit of a struggle to get over it!
At 1:53:55 these happy campers were at the finish line of day 1/start of day 2
Then from 1:55:05 check out the awesome secret side channels on the left (1:55:24) and then the right (1:58:53) of the main river, to avoid the 2 trees that were about 40cm above the water. You can paddle under about a 50cm gap but not 40cm.. This will be a very crazy start to Day 2 for the race this year!
'Dead Tree Decision' is the channel at 2:07:39 that I like to take but indeed for a larger longer boat you need to take the route straight ahead like we did today (or right side, we will be trying that next week)
My brother and my Dad are doing the race in a double plastic 515 kayak, very large and heavy!
Then we went on and shot the first rapids; Possults Ford (2:17:02) and Superchute (2:20:20) as they're great fun at 0.6m water level. Rocks are covered but the water is weak and if you hit anything then you don't hit very hard
Possults Ford is the end of the TiTrees and the beginning of the Avon Valley; ~35km of rocky rapids and fast flowing water all the way down to Bells Rapids

I’m not liking the look at the tight turn into super chute😂 looks like a bumby swim event, is there any portage around it? Also did your dad go to a right easier channel avoiding possums? Still heeling from Fridays bruises 🤣

Hi Lorraine! Go up to Possults Ford and practice shooting Possults and Superchute - it's only 300m and you can drive your car down and pick up your boat from the quarry gate. It's possible to portage both but you should try and shoot them. Superchute you can 'cut the corner' more than I did and hit the little hole on my right, sometimes it's too powerful and might spin you out but below 0.8m water level and with a longer boat you will be better off going there instead of making the sharper right turn like I did. Just make sure you miss the rocks and the top and keep pointing downstream, don't let it spin you out! I'm at Walyunga today and TiTrees Tomorrow Monday at about midday, you're welcome to come along thru the TiTrees with us if you can get to Wetherall Park for 1pm tomorrow! Edit: 1pm now not 12pm!
