Verse 1
Many struggle just to understand
How we all look so different
There is no native Mauritian
We’re all immigrants of this nation
From all over, we came
But we are all the same
In a melting pot of many cultures
Our musical heritage,
Our food and our language
Make us proud children of all colours
Chorus1
Bonzour ki manier?
it’s how we greet each other
We are Zanfan Tou Kouler
We live in peace together
We all eat farata
On the beach there, amba laba
When annoyed, we say "ayo mama"
There you go, Ala Lila
Clap, clap. Taper taper la main - oh Lo o laé lai lala
Clap, clap. Taper taper la main - oh lo laé
Clap, clap. Taper taper la main - oh Lo o laé lai lala
Clap, clap. Taper taper la main - oh lo laé
Verse 2
After the Dutch left the island
The French settled and brought Africans
The British came and won the victory,
Let the French be but banned slavery
And so came Indians
To cultivate the lands
Hindus, Muslims grew in big numbers
The Chinese came to trade
They set up shop and stayed
So we became children of all colours
Chorus2
Bonzour ki manier?
it’s how we greet each other
We are Zanfan Tou Kouler
We live in peace together
We all eat farata
On the beach there, amba laba
When annoyed, we say "ayo mama"
There you go, Ala lila
Clap, clap. Taper taper lame - oh Lo o laé lai lala
Clap, clap. Taper taper lame - oh lo laé
Clap, clap. Taper taper lame - oh Lo o laé lai lala
Clap, clap.
Bridge1 (sung by Linzy Bacbotte)
Sega, music of our forefathers still flows in our veins
Brings together our people from all domains
.
And at the sound of the ravanne
,
The guitar, drums and the Triang,
Hearts overflow with emotions
We get up and we start to dance…
Bridge2 (sung by kids):
Our island has no hidden treasures
But it has children of all colours
