I prefer a round turn and two half hitches.... easier all round
Yes and much stronger
and can be done with a single hand!
Love these knot videos. But it would be good to have examples of where they are commonly used
I practiced the noose knot for a reason, and I'm damn well gonna use it. I don't need to panic its intuition at this point. I didn't think I'd be this versatile tho
"for a reason"
Weavers of Eternity; I love your channel-clear, simple, easy to follow...
My plan is to thru hike the Appalachian Trail, and I’m sure your knowledge will be vital to me.
Thank you.
Very informative! Thanks man love the work!
Super helpful! Thanks Tim
A good knot to know. Thank you.
Cool thanks definitely will try this out
The Lark's Head knot. Very simple. On one cross-country flight I looked out on the wing and saw that knot. It held up to everything thrown at it.
Отличный узел. Благодарю автора.
Saw this on another channel the other day top info 👍
if you do the second phase but wrap upwards you can make it friction hitch also. hard to untie, but sometimes you need a knot that wont untie.
The last way he tied the knot is an entirely different knot than the earlier ones.
Thank you
That's like a Siberian hitch with extra steps. Your "Panic knot" is harder to undo once it has been under tension, and provides insufficient friction within the knot compared with a good knot. Too much of the knot in the video depends on the friction with the thing upon which it is tied; so it seems good on the skin of your fingers, but will require a large tail on any slippery surface or where it is continuously loaded and unloaded. With a little practice a bowline can be tied in under 3 seconds, can be under tension for years and still easy to undo.
Hear, hear the bowline get used all over my vessel, can tie and check it blindfolded.
A knot you must make on your hand for then move it over to something else isn't what I will call a knot for panic situations..
I think bowline knot is just as easy, but easier to untie
yep, just disliked the video because of the clickbait title
But bowline slide while this knot lock in place like clove hitch or highway man hitch. I like highway man hith more though since it very easy to undo.
Burn knot is quicker, much easier to adjust and gives user more control. Can be untied under tension. ua-cam.com/video/XrT2MLS4KWI/v-deo.html
@@unknownme217 exactly, they’re different. Both are useful
@@unknownme217 Then I would do a clove hitch to stop the bowline sliding.
A bit like midshipman’s and Tarbuck knot.
Love that midshipman! One of my go to’s
I've done this knot before watching this video. I can't believe it had a relatable name XD
Seems like an anchor bend with an extra loop? Or is it somehow different. I appreciate part of this is the technique of preparing it on your hand. 👍
Cool!
Though starting around the post there's only one strand. Any way to make it with more strength/strands around the standing post?
Strength is determined by the breaking strength of the rope/cord. More passes around a post isn't going to help.
But yeah, just pretend that the post is your hand.
@@RiylanCorma It actually does change the strength and behavior of the knot substantially.
Awesome. Subscribed
Nice clean and simple demonstration. So... in theory, if your in a "panic" you'd find the time to tie this knot. Sure, lets go with that :)
I've found that two turns around the pole (or whatever) followed by 3 or 4 half hitches is fast and easy!
Learn the hatchet knot. Takes a hatchet to untie.
Your in a "panic", you have 5 seconds to grab and tie. Time your selves on what ever you tie, it just has to temporarily "hold" until you have time to think.
@@Johnnymailman clove hitch, every time.😉
@@Johnnymailman Then at least 3 turns and more likely 5 turns and a single half hitch will hold basically up to the limit of the line or what it is attached to (on either end)!!!
I'll stick to the clove hitch.
How does this compare to a Canadian Jam Knot?
indeed, in all seriousness, and sort of off topic from knots please forgive me, lol, I have been trying lately to practice and coach myself to “remain calm and steadfast simultaneously”. It is my new personal rule, considering all the ridiculous fear mongering and overly panicking that so many, and even myself, participated in during 2020 and or 2021. And considering that personality-wise, I had always been sort of temperamental. Panicking was never a good solution and imo caused us all more harm overall. Well panicking does not ever seem to be a wise solution to any dire situatio eh? Anyways, now I got a good knot for it too. lol
Love the videos keep em coming bud. Stay safe and be well brother. Strength and Honor... 👊 🤙 🍻
I’m going to use this for my hammock
Try a Siberian hitch.
It looks like a "double" slippery half-hitch.
the second knot has a different appearance to the first knot in that it only has 1 loop around the post
First Class Amateur's original video...

... and his follow-up...

Structurally, it seems to be a simplified anchor hitch.
Fun fact, this knot is from a different channel called Frost Class Amateur, who you neglected to give credit to in the video or description.
I highly doubt I would remember this knot in case of panic)
reminds of me Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy one of my favorite movies. “Don’t Panic” ☺️
I don't see the advantage of this over the tried-and-true clove hitch that everyone already knows how to tie...
Big fan… but… Seems a little overcomplicated in comparison to more known standard knots, but … entertaining.
There is another panic knot, put a half hitch into rope like truckers hitch, put your hand through the loop, pass the end around the post with the other hand , grab the end in the other hand and pull. The loop will come off your hand, tighten up and the knot will turn over and be a bowline knot. Can be tied in half second.
This is a variation on the timber hitch.
What if you finished it with two half hitches rather than two loops?
Everyone should knot no this
Hard to untie, im better use bowline
Dam good idea 👍🇺🇸🇺🇸🪓🔪👍👍
Looks alot like what some call a "Siberian Hitch"...easy enough to tie without taking gloves or mittens off...
Looks like a clove hitch, but doubled
This knot is 2 turns by 2. The noose is 1+1-13. Same difference.
Don't see why you'd use this over a clove hitch or bowline tbh. Both just as quick to tie.
I've never heard of it. But if you can learn this knot you can learn any of the dozens of knots that do the same thing. I'm not sure exactly what application this has. But you explained it very well! LOL
I'd just use a granny knot.
That's called the anchor hitch and it is not a new Knot. Climbers use it for tie in and is rated as life safety knot
🔥💕👍
Knot bad!
I would go so far as to guess it was called a panic knot because it would hold the horse even if it panicked for some reason.
Bowline knot, arbor knot and truckers hitch are pretty much all a man needs. Maybe a figure eight knot once in a while.
Ну не знаю. Быстрее завязать булинь в экстренной ситуации, а хочешь заморочиться - вяжи восьмёрку)
Your last knot was a completely different knot!
why not 2 half hitches?
A clove hitch will do the same job and its much easier to tie and untie.
Would think a "panic" knot would be faster and easier to do.. not wait, need to wrap this around my hand 2 or 3 times, do a couple of loops with tail, slip it off my hand, and put it around a post with a free end. needs a new name.
If I was in a panic no way
🙋 🙋
phew i didnt panic when i did the knot
Yee yee
just learn the bowline and don’t confuse yourself
A constrictor knot is easier.
I love knots....whats wrong with me ?
Issue with this is A if you are as name states panic, last thing you want is to wrap rope around you hand. Its great way to delete your hand if what ever is on the another end pulls hard. Secondly not really good way to tighten this. I do like its easier to open than some knots but best panic knot is pull tight around the object, loop over and then into the main loop and start making slip knots over each other using last free loop, so essentially one slip knot secures one behind it. This is then easy to untie just by pulling while strong enough to hold basic stuff in place, but as with this, its not something you want to relay with your life.
Essentially you are tying a double timber hitch with only two wraps of the tail end instead of wrapping until you run out of rope.
This is nothing like a timber hitch which is a fast way to essentially make a fast slipping knot; a double timber hitch would simply involve an extra pass around the timber. The grip of this “knot” would very based on the material it was tied to as well as the material of the rope, where as a timber hitch can function well tied around nearly any shape of about any material and depending on the number of wraps out of about any rope. I wouldn’t trust this “knot” for anything; but as a pioneering instructor for more than 30 years while I may know of many many knots, I seem to go back to a few that are tied and true.
Don't panic!
If you cant tie a knot… Tie alot
the two loops under the original loops make it NOT easy to untie. Dislike. Should be two half hitches outside the loop. Then it would resemble a rolling hitch.
The knots are not the same...
I think this is a poor knot to teach people onsidering the other knots easy, secure and quick knots available. This knot is very dependant on being dressed properly, to achieve consistent results and being able to loosen it. This makes it a very cumbersome knot. Once a fair amount of tension gets applied to it you'll really struggle to undo it, if at all.
A bowline is easier to make, is stronger, and is also easy to pull apart. This knot is crap.
Not much and you?
This is not a knot you tie in a hurry. Pretty use less
Nice looking knot, totally useless.
🪵-knot or hitch. wtf is a panic knot?
FCA is very cool. First Class Amateur give professional tips and tutorials. Between your channel and his, paracord is handled.🪢
