I know I was supposed to post this yesterday at noon. But I was on my cycling trip yesterday and did not have enough time to do a good job editing. I hope you like the result an see you next week for my monthly status update!
Thanks. The shorted rides (2, 5, 8 miles) were not so bad. I thought the last one (22 miles) was going to be worse but we took short breaks every 7 miles and we were done in about 3 hours.
Great video. Thanks. Also, search Amazon books for Geography by Jack Fleming, Weather by Jack Fleming, and Beaches (Oceanography) by Jack Fleming. These books are for attaining a merit badge and for counselors and other volunteers to prepare for the badge requirements. Thanks.
There is no specific requirements for the type of bicycle used for the Cycling Merit Badge, It really up to the discretion of your MB Counselor. “Be sure the bicycle meets local laws... Show your bicycle to your counselor for inspection.” I recommend using a traditional mountain bike with gears. There are requirements that you need a tubed tire: “Show how to repair a flat by removing the tire, replacing or patching the tube, and remounting the tire.” Good luck.
Then you should know how to care for and service tubeless tires and disc brakes. The point of these requirements is that you have the skills and knowledge to be self dependent on the trail, regardless of the type of bike.
I agree @B B.Ultimately it is up to what the requirement says and the MB Counselor. @Noscope 619, if you think the requirement is satisfied with hydraulic disk brakes and tubeless tires get a MB Counselor who agrees. Good luck
Great video. But with all due respect, that is not mountain biking. But thats on the merit badge counselor for approving the trail. With that said, in my opinion both the road and the MTB requirements for this MB are unrealistic for younger scouts, unless they are riding several days a week for up to a year, leading up to the big ride.
The route we took was a paved bike path not along a road. Our MB Counselor had us ride in the dirt for a portion. You are right about the 50 mile Road Biking requirement being long. The 22 mile Trail Ride was tiring.
I had a question in regards to Road Biking VS Mtn Biking. On the 22 mile trip it looks like you are on a paved path. I thought about doing this with my troop but someone questioned me on whether that was Road or Mtn biking. I said it says to use Multiple types of trails so that counts right.
Yes, my MB Counselor had use go off the path for a while and said it counted. Most of the time we were on a paved bike path that is not along a road. Again, it is up to the MBC interpretation of mtn biking. Mine did not consider the bike path Road Biking because there was no vehicle traffic. Good luck!
So, you think that road biking of 75 miles is too much? I biked two hundred miles to earn my Cycling merit badge and instead of too hard, it was really fun. Do not promote your prejudices in earning the merit badge: tell both options objectively. I made Eagle Scout in 1981, before Cycling was a required merit badge.

@@DonMiguelYT yes, hopefully I will rank up by then!
Yeah, you rides bikes!
I ride bikes but not that long. This is too far for me.
@@MariaGuzman 52 miles total!
Super nice trails at the end. so smooth.
Yes they are
They are. Our Cycle MBC made use ride in the dirt for a while to satisfy mountain biking. I would not want to do it on the road with car traffic.
Great job.
Thanks. Maybe I should do the Moviemaking Merit Badge next 😃
Sounds like too much exercise to me, great job👍😁

@@EagleScoutMacGuzman Great that is what I was thinking as well
Hope it goes well. I thought the road biking was more dangerous as well.

An opinion based on personal experience is promoting a prejudice?
