One of my favorite things about OPR is that you have the whole game from the start. In contrast to GW where the factions are basically released as paid DLC across the span of years. How often do you have a 'full game' unless you go back to a prior edition?
This game is just great. I've switched from Kill Team to GDF Firefight (the skirmish version of this game) and will not look back ever again. I love the bigger table sable size and the greater variety of miniatures. Right now I'm building my first big army ever: Guild Dwarves, a mix of wargames Atlantic minis, some knock off robots from AliExpress and a King Tiger tank from the World War Toons line by Meng. I love how you can just throw any miniatures at this game and have a great time
Holy shit.... how the hell do you only have 9.3k subs?!? This was one of the best shot and narrated battle reports I've seen. The Camera work clearly shows not just the game but also good detail on the models themselves...
I am a big fan of both your battle reports and OPR so this makes me very happy. I hope you enjoyed the system as much as I do. Looking forward to more of those!
This is great, awesome production and terrain/minis. Missed a couple rules here and there, but that isnt too bad for the first game ;) And may the robots keep winning!
@@MiniatureGameMontage I have rewatched the video, and realised that some things i thought were mistakes were played right, so my bad on that. great report. Switched to OPR (from 40k) myself and my painted miniatures are seeing gaming tables again because of how quick to pick up and fun the game is
Just discovered your channel thanks to this video. Great battle report. I hope you make more in this series, as it is something that I am looking into at present. I have recently joined OPR’s Patreon, specifically for Grimdark Future, and to get access to their Robot Legions print files. Long time WFB player here, but never got into 40K, as WFB was already a drain on my wallet. Always wanted to play Necrons, though. Quit player GW games about a decade ago. Recently discovered OPR, and joined their Patreon last month, specifically for GF, and to get access to their Robot Legions print files. Great batrep--clear, to-the-point style and good production quality, especially for a smaller channel. Enthusiastically liking and subscribing, and looking forward to more OPR content as we all look for alternatives to GW. I love how your old-school necrons and firstborn marines fit with the spirit of the Grimdark Future rules!
New subscriber here. With my buddy and myself getting a pair of 3-d printers and the amazing content from creators makes this the future. You don’t want to be selling models. You want to be selling hobby supplies and good places to play.
A breezy, well-edited battle report. Good job. I love the games from One Page Rules. Glad to see it getting more attention. Hope to see more in the future.
In my opinion Onepagerules Grimdark is a truly fantastic alternative, much faster, not clunky at all, and very complete. I`m thrilled to see you are giving it a go. We (wife and I) switched over totally to this system a while ago. The Gangwars rules are just as good and make an extremely enjoyable Necromunda alternative.
Nice BR! Btw the blue lighting & the (dry ice smoke?) at the start are amazing, simulating night cycle. Should BR in the blue lighting for flavour if it's viable for your recording. Anyways 👍👍
Fun batrep! With so few OPR videos on youtube, having one with this production level is nice. You should try Grimdark Future Firefight, the skirmish variant, it even has rules for Necromunda gangs (Hive City gangs). You could pit a gang against Space Marines, that would be interesting to see.
Another great battle report! I'm pretty excited to try this in the near future. I think 40k is a really neat game, but the stratagems and certain other rules are so messy and demanding, I'd love to get some experience with a less demanding system.
It’s been a busy summer, so I missed this batrep until today. One Page Rules! Awesome! I’ve played a couple solo games of their fantasy skirmish rules which seemed very balanced. Hoping to try out the Grimdark Firefight rules with a friend later this week. Only thing I noticed was that last volley of fire through the building by the Robot hover bikes into the Black Wing. Shooting through an entire building? I would have said they were out of line of sight, but ymmv. Oh, I also would have discarded that objective card targeting flyers and drawn a new one. If there are no flyers on the table, just draw something that is achievable. Hoping to see more OPR on the channel… and great lighting! Perfect! 😃
Thanks! This game cuts a step out of rolling. You roll to hit and the opponent rolls to block. So no strength/toughness check to wound. Most of the models in the robot legions have regen and the prime brothers have it. Regen just means if you fail a save you get to reroll looking for a 5+ to negate the blow. I might have missed some of those being new
I play a dozen different systems, but no GW. My grownup son gave me his Necrons, Orcs, and Spacewolves marines. Can I play that 40K setting using GDF, with no prior knowledge of the 40K rules or universe. Great Bat-Rep by the way. You’ve inspired me to do this.

For me it starts with stratagems. They are awful to keep up with. I think if they want to include 30 stratagems make it to where you can only take 3 in a game. I played a game of 40k recently and found myself flipping through rules more than playing.
Brilliant! Are you going to be doing more of these? I found OPR the other week going to get on them for good as part of their pateron :) Both settings are great and of course have several types of games and each month pateron give out several new missions as well :) I think GDF is best for most people tbh rules are simpler, straightforward, lots of fun, still very tactical and dont need 2-3 big books in front of you every second. This makes it way easier to try out new armies and loadouts as well :)
At the end of turn 1, the Prime Brothers made a major strategic error that might have cost them the game. They chose to discard the "assassinate" objective, which is understandable because it would have given incentive for the robots to go after their hero. But at the time, the "hold objective 1 at start and end of turn" card was in play, *and* the Robot Legions were sitting on objective 1, making it possible (and very likely) for them to achieve that objective! The Prime Brothers had the choice of objectives to discard, and they should have picked that one to discard, and left the Assassinate objective card in play. That might have swung the game,
Good call. I thought I could shift those Robots off the objective and move in to claim it. They proved to be very resilient, however. I knew I probably wouldn’t get the leader but felt a bit unsure on mine. Still a good call on trashing #1
I have some Imperial Fists and Death Guard that are just collecting dust and I have no interest in playing 40k but these rules look pretty straight forward. Do they have army lists for all of the uh, 40k factions?
Very straight forward. They have a lot of different factions. I guess Death Guard would be similar to their "Infected Colonies" and Imperial Fists would be Battle Brothers or Prime Brothers I assume. It's all free on their website including army books.
@@MiniatureGameMontage Infected Colonies are more of a zombie thing. The most obvious equivalent for actual Death Guard would be Havoc Brothers, and in particular the Disciples of Plague in the Havoc Brothers Disciples list. But if there are any rules in the IC list you prefer, you could certainly mix those in. All the points costs are generated using the same formula (which you can also get as a Patron so you can make your own units), so you can mix and match units between armies if you like, with no fear of breaking the game. Imperial Fists would indeed be best represented by Battle Brothers or Prime Brothers, depending on your preference.
I heard about this game through discourse miniatures. I was sold the second I saw it has alternating activations. I want to get a game in using the GDF rules, but the only game nights I have time for are 40k only.
Really enjoyed this. I've tried playing 40k, but I'm just not enjoying how many rules I need to remember for every interaction. Maybe I can get some people playing one page rules games!
It was nice. We literally had a read through of the rules and were playing the game. No strength of this weapon is X and this makes it D3+3 damage and this stratagem makes it fire twice...just quick and easy fun.
Only just watched this now. I saw it in my feed earlier but didn't realise what it was. I'd heard grimdark future recommended before but never seen it in action. I'm not really enjoying big 40k, but kill team is looking excellent and will probably be my main game from now on. But the grimdark future rules might come in handy when I want to get some of the big toys off the shelf
You might just want to look at Grimdark Future: Firefight too. That's the skirmish version of the main game, which uses the same basic rules as you've seen here, but adds a few extra for that cinematic feel; adding some survivability to each model so each has a chance for that cinematic "last stand", and more rules for vertical terrain so you can push your opponents off buildings etc. 😜 The basic rules are free, and the full rulebook (which only costs a few quid) has a bunch of extra missions and special rules that you can add for even more interest. There's also the Gang Wars supplement, which gives you even more missions, campaign rules (including controlling territories and earning new skills and equipment for your models), and a whole bunch of extras like random events, fighting in urban environments, and even how to use objects around you as weapons! If you sign up as a Tier 1 Patron (which costs about the same as a single rulebook), you get _all_ the rulebooks for the games automatically as part of the welcome pack.
Most of it is 3d printed and can be found on thingiverse. The pieces that aren't are Pegasus terrain. Link here. amzn.to/3zN5N0Q and amzn.to/3AVxw0z - Hope that helps :)
Looks interesting might be the only way to dust them old model. In the the future you might do Fire fight or Hive wars(I’m a big Munda fan,but to get extra players involved it’s seem a bit daunting for them). Thanks mate 🏆
I have to try this. I tried getting back into 40k after a number of years , and realised that it would cost me a metric shitload of money for the models. And I would need to read a 200 page rulebook, a codex ,faq and various supplement....and thats only my army. This seems much better. And I was a full harcore competitive player back in the day.
This game has given me a reason to pull old models off the shelf. I can't wait to get a Land Raider on the board or a Flyer. I may need to dust them first, however. :D
Appreciate you playing nonGW game with GW figs. With all the awful stuff they've been up to I'd love to play with the figs I have without giving them anymore money.
Yeah it’s difficult right now for sure. I empathize with those affected. I’m a bit miffed at the situation as well and what it could potentially mean for channels like mine eventually. I really like GW models but I feel like I can’t keep up with 40k unless I solely focus on it. Plus I’m starting to find some alternatives out there for models and games that give me just as much joy.
@@MiniatureGameMontage Oh absolutely. We enjoy most if not all the other games you showcase on your channel. I know you've got infinity in the pipeline which I'm looking forward to. Still hoping to see stuff like Saga or chain of command at some point! I know Necromunda is near and dear to you so I understand if you still make videos for it. could never blame you for making content for stuff you enjoy!
Simple and very quick game. We played 3 games of 2000 points each and each game was 1 hour. We are going to try 3000 this weekend. We think it will be just as long of a game if not even faster since we now know how to play and the extra 1000 pets will likely be spent on big stuff like tanks and monsters that can really dish out some quick damage.
I love 40k models but hate the rules. I just don't have any interest in putting in the amount of time and money required to play it well. Grimdark Future seems like it takes out most of the unnecessary bookkeeping and tedious rules. I really want to try this game out. Hopefully I can find some people locally who feel the same way. Finding people to play this with is gona be the only barrier for entry for me.
Right! I enjoy 40k but I'm just not competitive and that's more what the youtube scene is. I really can't fathom how these people remember so much but it tends to be the only game they play. Just too much for the noggin to handle, lol.
@@MiniatureGameMontage Yea, it wouldn't be so bad if they didn't constantly change the rules. I get maybe one game in a month on average and I never feel like I've got a good grasp on the rules lol
@@jaelee1996 I haven’t looked at them in depth. I keep meaning to. I’m going to really try to focus on some of these games and learning their rules before moving into new ones.
“I’ve been struggling a bit with 40K recently”. Bro, you and me and all my gaming group too! GW makes lovely miniatures and has a deep, rich IP… but the rules… their rules are awful. And I say that as someone who has been playing it on and off since 1st edition. 40K is a bloated, expensive, unbalanced and overly competitive big mess at the moment.
That's a bit of how I feel. Just too much going on that I'm unaware of. I think if Stratagems were reduced to maybe 5 per faction I would be okay with it.
I like how clean the OPR system is. More batreps please.

Fantastic content. Thanks 👍😁😎
Thanks for watching and leaving a comment
I might be a bit late but i just started with GF. Where did you get the secondaries (e.g. Hold 1) from? i think the idea is pretty nice
I believe from their website it's in the rulebook section under expansions.
cool video Im new to this game also n I love it so far keep up the good work :-)
Will do. The story continues soon!
Thanks for watching. I found it easy to grasp and perfect for what I wanted.
The basic rules are free, and the full rulebook (which only costs a few quid) has a bunch of extra missions and special rules that you can add for even more interest.
Can you post links where you got the terrain?
Most of it is 3d printed and can be found on thingiverse. The pieces that aren't are Pegasus terrain. Link here. amzn.to/3zN5N0Q and amzn.to/3AVxw0z - Hope that helps :)
That was awesome and I can't wait to see how the campaign progresses. How did you decide on secondary objectives for Campaign Points?
Thanks! It’s in the campaign rules on the website.
Looks interesting might be the only way to dust them old model. In the the future you might do Fire fight or Hive wars(I’m a big Munda fan,but to get extra players involved it’s seem a bit daunting for them). Thanks mate 🏆
Thanks! I think I’ll try out Fire Fight at some point. I’m so familiar with Necromunda it’s easier for me at this point despite its complexities.
These are beautiful objective markers! Where did you get them from?
3D6 Wargaming on Etsy. Cheers!
I love it. :) is there a chance for grimdark future firefigh ?
I don't see why not. Seems to be some demand for it. :D
Do more OPR!
@@MiniatureGameMontage
Yes, that might well be what I have been looking for. No updates, no rule flaws , no power creep, just pure fun with models.
The Necrons trashing the space marines ? Sign me up for this game.
The Legion feels pretty strong. I'm anxious to introduce more units. Thanks for watching.
Love this!
Thanks for watching!
I thought you can’t fire through units to hit other units because you don’t have line of sight through units?
I think that’s correct. Probably just playing in the moment being our first game.
@@MiniatureGameMontage love the series. I have a Saturn 2 on order. Can’t wait to not pay GW those ridiculous prices anymore
@@vividpsychosis8222 Yeah at some point I may take the plunge into a resin printer. Right now just getting by with my ender 3 for terrain.
@@MiniatureGameMontage I just got the patreon for one page: instantly have 3 armies full for 10 bucks. Incredible. Can’t wait to print em.
Awesome we’re going to build up to that. Actually going to start working on the next one this weekend. Cheers!
Amazing! Bro please make one vídeo using salamanders(prime battle brothers)
More, please!
Absolutely!
I liked it
You’re the man! Thanks!
Why are the Dark Brothers taking Regen rolls? It's not on their models.
This report was made when Prime Brothers has regen. Rules have since been changed.
@@MiniatureGameMontage Oh ok, was confused about that. Now I can enjoy the rest of the series with that knowledge.
@@thunder_chunder6491 Good call though. I need to update the thumbnail with "legacy" or something.
All I heard was 'Serious Sector'..
It’s serious in the Sirius sector 😉
I thought 6 was always a success, even if AP brings it higher than 6+.
You’re right! Good catch!
@@MiniatureGameMontage Regardless, this is great content. I'm subbed. Any plans for Age of Fantasy or Regiment in the future?
@@jaelee1996 I haven’t looked at them in depth. I keep meaning to. I’m going to really try to focus on some of these games and learning their rules before moving into new ones.
Butt-swarms
“I’ve been struggling a bit with 40K recently”. Bro, you and me and all my gaming group too! GW makes lovely miniatures and has a deep, rich IP… but the rules… their rules are awful. And I say that as someone who has been playing it on and off since 1st edition. 40K is a bloated, expensive, unbalanced and overly competitive big mess at the moment.
That's a bit of how I feel. Just too much going on that I'm unaware of. I think if Stratagems were reduced to maybe 5 per faction I would be okay with it.
Interesting accent
OPR>GW Sorry not sorry
I still enjoy both but definitely struggle with 40k in it's current format with all the books, faqs, updates, stratagems, etc
