Honore' de Balzac, an adventure for sure. The will and power, "The will consumes power and destroys us." Capital moves upward and flows downward. The concern of money, marriage. What has changed? He was an incredible writer of realism. Thank you for this documentary.
A totally absorbing and entertaining portrayal of one of the world’s undeniable literary geniuses. Still, he was for the most part it seems, miserable. And so while eliciting a deep regard for Balzac’s untenable intellect and literary contributions to the world, this documentary also makes me glad to just be myself, unencumbered by genius and ambition. As musician Tiny Tim sang, “Aren’t You Glad To Be You?!” Indeed, I am, thou great philosopher, Mr. Tim, indeed I am! 😄
Jesuschrist...this man says "Ballsack" in such a peaceful manner it fucking irritates me to the point of murderous anger. Beautiful documentary, nonetheless.
Interesting, but ruined for me by the narrator's insistence on calling Honore de Balzac by the rather less dignified Honore de Ball zack. The "a" is supposed to be short, a in "hat"!!! He tried to get the pronunciation right in other names, so why not this one? I had to switch off. I will content myself with a French copy of Mr Ballsack's "Contes Drolatiques", which I originally encountered in English translation.
Thank you for an interesting & informative documentary - I soon used the fast forward option to escape that woman’s most irritating manner of speaking!
Happy Summer holidays of love for reading friends, exploring some more the ... human comedy and the fine arts of saving feeling on paper and sharing them with readers, every writer had this input, sharing his own feelings with the audience because still so worthy, have fun slow down and give time a better use friends
Dear editor of this docu. Please spare the poor viewers, us, from Dr Michele Hannoosh. It is not possible to concentrate on the content of what she wants to say because of her very annoying pitch of voice and the posh, arrogant usage of English language. We understand that she has a degree in literature but let"s just stick to the genre of a docu and not pretend to give a lecture to academic students. Thank you.
Director... "So Keith, you're sure you're ok with pronouncing French words and names ?" Keith..... "Of course, I've studied every episode of Allo Allo and have had speach lessons from Dr. Hanoosh. Director... "oh shit"
Fabulous documentary apart from the irratating and obviously put on posh accent of Dr. Hannoosh! She must have spent a fortune on elocutionary classes.
The poor presenter of this documentary! Anyone who has a smattering of French language cannot fail to constantly flinch at his pronunciation. Did the presenter accept this commission out of desperation? Was he unaware of his terrible accent? Apart from that, the documentary is good, well compiled and illustrated and draws on well informed (and more linguistically capable) experts in the field particularly Graham Robb who has written a weighty biography of Balzac. So all in all, I am thankful to have discovered this (though still flinching at the end!)
Good doc. One observation: Ewelina Hańska was not Ukrainian. She was Polish. As was her husband Wacław Hański. In those times Poland extended to some Ukrainian terrains. Nevertheless in those times Poland was under partitions. Hański's estate was in the region occupied by Russia. So - some of Ukrainian territory had been taken by Poles, which - in its turn was taken by Russians. Complicated. I know.
It is Balzac not Bolzac - the presenter cannot pronounce one single French word and this shows a lack of respect - very annoying and very ignorant - there are french teachers even in London, my goodness.
I'd love to honore de balzac
You better lol
Heh heh.
Absolutely 💯
The way he is pronouncing the name, you are absolutely right!! 😮😂
Lmao
may i tickle de balzac
It would be my Honoré
Thank you for this lovely documentary. 🇫🇷
You're welcome!
Thank you for posting this.
My pleasure

Je suis heureux que vous l'ayez apprécié! 😊
One of the Best Documentaries i have seen lately..
here after Elon Musk's Tweet
do you wanna honore my balzac
Wow! such an outstanding documentary film, combined with so many classical pieces, I love all forms of arts👍☺️

Exactly! The life of an artist takes sacrifice. Balzac was intense! I'm an artist, but I try not to brood for too long lol. Tim is a wise sage
Write Like love your thoughtful reply! Thanks so much!❗️
❤
thank you lovely
C'est fantastique. Merci beaucoup!
De rien 🙏

Listen at 1.25 speed. You’re welcome
Interesting documentary, but please, he was not "Ball-Jack" but Balzac - why not using the French pronunciation?
Humor
Thank you for an interesting & informative documentary - I soon used the fast forward option to escape that woman’s most irritating manner of speaking!
She ruins the docu.
Everyone: Honorè Balsac
Narrator: Honnoy Ball Sack
That orange blouse woman's voice is so very annoying!!!!!!
Yes! REALLY!!!!!
At minute 12:23 I had to stop and check if it was just me!! Horrible!
That's Vocal Fry for ya. It's pisses off anyone instantly lol
So pretentious. Trying her best to sound like royalty...
The saddest part is that she is American and had only lived in England for several years at that point.
Great documentary!

The sound coming out of that woman, my god.
I tried to image her at age 8 talking like that, it didn't materialize.
Clips are from a movie version of War and Peace?
Yes
So disturbing hearing the teller deforming his name every 2 minutes.. It's not fcking Ball-zeck, it's BAL-ZAC ...
Infuriating! 'Ballsack' narrator. What a plum. F**kin' scroaty.
Bell sack lol
The footage of the guy drinking around 26:00 is from the Soviet film of War and Peace.

God bless Honore! He fell in love!
I miss the other speaker (Hugo, Zola). He could pronounce the french names very well.
Indeed.
Honor my balzac!! That’s crazy
Poor subtitles and French pronunciation but otherwise good introduction to the author. (from Green Fire, UK) 🌈🦉
PS: Graham Robb and Nathalie Aubert convince.☑
The original Neo-Lib "Revolution" ? Take heed!
Riveting and informative 😊

Fact. Ugh!
Why do you pronounce his surname Bolzac? It's annoying.
I'm a lover of Zola so I had to start reading Balzac. I'm about 3 books into La Comedie Humaine.
Ball Zac, turned it off immediately after hearing that.
Ah, Honore lived in a Garret. Makes sense if you read The Magic Skin. The description of a Garret made me feel like I lived there.
He was a huge influence on Faulkner.
so no one's gonna talk about that his name is literally honore the balzac . ok
Director... "So Keith, you're sure you're ok with pronouncing French words and names ?"
Keith..... "Of course, I've studied every episode of Allo Allo and have had speach lessons from Dr. Hanoosh.
Director... "oh shit"

Poor woman can’t help but speak with a constant vocal fry!
Is it just me or does this guy kind of look like John Wayne Gacy a lot?
This is not the Balzac I felt when I read him. And as for the affectations of the voice of Michele Hannoosh..ridiculous.(((
You didn't want to get him angry. He was too testy for some to handle.

You can just respect the penice, you gota
👍

Ligma balzac
actually its ballsack. like in testicles. and you should treat them with great care and honour them. yes a word deeply rooted in the French language.
everyone would probably disrespect it if they weren’t French at first thought.
Honor The Ballsack.

interesting. thank you. but that woman's voice is awful to listen to, and her comments are dry and dull.
...how utterly wooden
the presenter is
Where there's Balzac, there's wood.
Good. I hate when the narrator tries to be funny or colourful. It's not about them.
BALLSACK !
Honor De Ballsack. - phonetically
Im here cus of a meme...
Wrinkly , Sweaty Balsack
Boring docu w poor audio.
Very pedestrian docu.
Why does Michèle Hannoosh talk like that? So annoying!!!
balzac lol
Now I know why I hate reading the realists... thank you.
