When Climbing Meets Flexibility | Lattice Training

  • What happens when a climbing coach sets boulder problems for a flexibility coach (that are novice/intermediate climbers)? Well, in this video Lattice coaches Josh and Jen did exactly that, with flexibility coaches Matt and Liv. But the question is, does flexibility offer any advantages to the less experienced climber? Or will their ability to contort around a wall make up for the lack of experience? 🧗‍♀️🧗‍♂️
Today's video is a great one! Jen and Josh set some interesting boulder problems to challenge their route reading, their climbing skills, and to generally see if they could put their flexibility skillset to good use on the wall 🤸‍♀️🤸‍♂️
We have a follow-up video landing next week in which Matt and Liv challenged our coaches some flexibility challenges... be sure to tune in.

Yeeaah, was a fun session. It was great working with you both. It always amazes me how much of a difference seemingly small tweaks can make. Jen's advice on watching the feet + Josh's more bounding entry took a problem that I couldn't even start to one that was surprisingly consistent. Thanks guys! I look forward to seeing how our next side split video turns out 🤙

    Excelent video. Very fun.
Do you know what surprise me? You seem to be close enough people like... it's obvious you like each other but... when any of you did the problems after the struggle... you don't seem to celebrate each other victories too much compared to how we react in Spain for instance. I know it's a different culture but anyway it was something I noticed :P

How do you guys define novice climbers? If the send attempts shown in the video are flashes, then I wouldn't call these guys novice climbers based on how they move on the wall (heel hooks, deadpoints, precise foot work, rock-overs etc).

Yeah the guy, "matthewismith" has bouldering and climbing photos since 2016 on his instagram so calling him a novice seems a bit disingenuous.

@@Fuzzira You can climb for any amount of time and still be a novice. Just like how some could climb for only a few years and be advanced. Time != Ability

@@bronsoncc Right, and being a movement coach that seems to have incorporated bouldering and lead climbing into his form of training for what seems to be atleast the last five years, combined with what the OP said about his way of performing several advanced climbing techniques on flash attempt boulder problems... still makes me think it's disingenuous to call him a novice. Your statement is true, but everything can't be relative, if you are presented with the evidence leaning really heavily to one side.

@@Fuzzira I agree with the OP. I was specifically responding to your comment that implied he couldn't be a novice as he'd been climbing since 2016.
