6-8 weeks and it's because the cornrows start to grow out. Yes it can be washed
A REAL HONEST REVIEW:
While the hair is beautiful, they are a lot of work to maintain because the hair dries out quickly. Some like that look, but I didn't because then the hair became messy. While they do not tangle, the fiber that they are made from constantly has to be cut and trimmed. They also catch and snag onto everything, so forget about wearing jewelry.
Also, there is no way you can remove them yourself unless you have the patience of Job. Wheeew!
I wore mine for about 7 weeks, and I ended up just cutting them out because trying to remove each one of those tiny pieces upset my spirit and triggered my anxiety. However, there is one plus. You receive 5 bundles, ( 280 pieces) but you really only need to install two bundles unless you have an extremely large head( which I do). All 5 bundles are just too much hair. Therefore, you have hair left over for another install.
All in all, I absolutely love them and they are worth the money just because they are well made and they do not tangle. Just be prepared to mousse and oil them at least every other day. My suggestion to the company is they send instructions on how to care for them.
Thanks for your review. I am one of those that don't mind the low sheen look of the hair...I think it makes it look more natural. I've never used less than 4 packs and unless someone has a smaller than normal head...yes they can use two packs but try don't get caught in the wind because there should be gaps for days. There would definitely be empty cornrows underneath if two packs are used. Yes I tried taking down mine the first time and caved it and cut them out BUT I've since discovered a technique which is a life saver. Why it so expensive
It is not human hair, but the quality is comparable to human hair. It is also handmade so a lot goes in to creating it. The hair can also be reused several times, unlike most synthetic hair.
.....and you really only need 2 to 2.5 bundles. All 5 bundles are just too much hair.
