      Robert Banks yeah it started doing that with the go pro. I changed some settings to see if it will go away. I think it was getting a loud noise and would block the sound. or its the machine electronics interfering with it. I had to cut off the beginning of my machine gun clips cause it was messing up the sounds

    Is your chuck mounted on a True Bore alignment system? Great video 👍

      @@x-ringcustomgunsmithing942 If you could ever be bothered making a video and going over a few details I'd love to hear your thoughts. I'm interested in mounting one to my lathe, but getting them to Australia is an arse pain..

      Yeah I can probably put together a video on that. Always thinking of things to film and put up. Going to be getting back on it. I have been busy getting into a new shop we built over the winter so I haven't done any videos in awhile

    My question is with the chamber end chucked up in running true how do you get the 20” plus of barrel running true that’s in the throat of the lathe? I know you indicated the rod that was in the bore but that’s only 6” or so.

    • @x-ringcustomgunsmithing942
      @x-ringcustomgunsmithing942  5 років тому +1

      No barrel is straight and to end. The key is getting the chamber cut straight so the bullet enters the bore square. Then the same process is done for the crown so the bullet leaves square. Even those that use outboard spiders on the muzzle won't have the muzzle dialed in running true on the outboard.

      Gravity at the muzzle and metal grain will affect this more than the rest of the runout that is immeasurable behind the chuck

    SO impressed I can not find words. Does your chuck move in the Z axis? sure looks like it does. Fantastic looking lathe. Dave

      Thabk you I appreciate it. No the chuck doesnt move it appears so since i have my GoPro camera mounted to the carriage the chamber reamer is held in.

    What collet holder is that tool post for the reamer?

    Given the money just a "barrel blank" from Krieger costs and how "cheap" it is to have the same experts who build such kick-ass "blanks" just go ahead and "short-chamber" the barrel with the same machines and tools and personnel and expertise they use to make the "blank", it just blows my mind that neither "gunsmiths" or their "customers" are smart enough to let the experts do the "cheap" and "easy" work (for them) and simply finish-chamber the barrel which almost anybody can do well and not screw up. Buying a "barrel blank" is like buying a "rough-bored" engine block from Dart and then paying the local machine shop to "bore" AND finish hone it to final bore diameter fitting the pistons you've already purchased instead of buying a bored block and just finish-honing and fitting the pistons perfectly with a minimal amount of expense and wear and tear on the machinists tools and with no REAL loss of "income" or "revenue" for the machinist who is still doing the "easy" part but can charge exactly the same amount because it's also the "final" and crucial part of the process. I guess some people just like "making chips" and wearing out their own tools and doing"precision" work with rented, used tools of unknown "history" and "condition". And by the way, a MACHINIST should know you can't "sharpen" a REAMER. You can "grind it" to a smaller, different "chambering" but you can't remove material from the flutes to sharpen them without reducing the OD of the reamer and in the process taking it out of spec.

      DEEREMEYER1 because I set mine up to .0002 or less run out I dont know what krieger does but I doubt they take as much time and care in set up as I do. Most if not all benchrest builders do 100% of their own chambering because they can set it up and know the chamber is on center line to the bore. Also you can have reamers sharpened again you can have them sent back to the tooling makers and they will regrind them and sharpen them to the same dimensions as it was. I also dont ream out the chamber 100% with the reamer I bore it out with a bar and then finish it the reamer. I also dont always rent reamers I buy a lot of them but only stuff that is a repeat bases no sense buying a reamer for maybe one time job.

      Wow, you must be a real pro....go tell Bob Villa to order the correct lengths of crown molding, since the saw mill makes the stuff anyway. You think Dart Machinery will finish the bores the way you want them, using torque plates, the type and thickness head gaskets you will use, head studs or bolts, the finish your rings require and the clearance needed for your application? You would be better served to watch and learn than inject your preconceived notions.

      Well guy, maybe he gets some pride and enjoyment out of doing the job himself. All I can suggest is that you build your rifles the way you want, and let him build his the way he wants. Never stops to amaze me why people would watch a video just to bitch about the way someone does something... Life full people bitching all the time, do not need anymore on UA-cam.

      Krieger is well known for lackluster "moa capable" chambers and nothing more.
