hii! can this comment be pinned please? it's really important. for those playing on normal rates: sometimes you'll find that the shadowmane will aggro on the trap randomly and will not de-aggro. you can fix this by netting it (you can it through the wall). i struggled a lot with taming my first shadowmane and it took 4 hours. don't let this happen to you. thank you for speaking out about the other guides they were getting so repetitive. none of them work so i tried my own method with 4 dino gates but i got a 145 to 50 percent then messed up and it aggroed the gate. this method completely eliminates that problem. and u even credited nooblets when u could of just said nothing. ur a real one thanks man, liked the vid.

Finally a very easy and helpful way to tame the shadowmane. I spend like 18 hours with the sneaking technique and only accomplished to tame a lvl 10 one. Thank you!
You can trap a fish by placing a wooden cage on top of the fish and then placing the basket next to them. You can also pick the cages back up after you got the fish. That's way easier in my opinion.
@@RevPVP I play with booster levels (goes by 6 instead of 5) and taming a 180 the regular crouch up way took me 2 hours and so I just tamed a 20 for a breeder Bc I was pissed

For anyone who is hesitant about trying this method, trust me it works. Some things to note are that if replacing the wall/foundation it’s hitting doesn’t make it lose agro, for me personally I just left to get fish and when I got back it was asleep. Once the shadowmane is trapped make sure you don’t fly above the trap or they can escape. For reference it took me around 7 fish for a level 90 shadowmane most of which were 1.0x and up.

For everyone having the problem that the Shadowmane does not lie down: If you are using the S+ Structures mod, that might be the problem. Use the normal structures. And after the Shadowmane is trapped, remove the ramps to make sure its only attacking the walls. Replace the attacked wall until it abruptly stops attacking. thats the indicator. I've figured that you dont necassarily need to de-render. I've just got a bit of distance to it, collected fish and every time i got back, it was asleep
I lost all my sanity while trying to tame at least ONE the usual way over the last 24 hours. Shooting a net at it, building gates around it and trying to approach it from the back all the time. The amount of times it randomly reset back to 0 while i was miles away is astonishing. Imo a testament to how technically flawed this game STILL is. Thank you so much for this technique, i finally can have a catto too!
7:14 i think if you do it with salmon is beter cuz salmon came in biger sizes and it don't attak you unless you attak them so you have the control of it
For anyone wondering this method still works! (Thanks so much Rev) I was able to tame 5 Shadowmanes today with this method. Took a lot of trial and error and you REALLY have to be careful about flying above the trap, but nonetheless I was able to tame every Shadowmane I had my eye on.

Not only can a tek skiff pick them up but if you get a quetzel they can also pick them up it's slow but it does the job. I think that's one of the reason there are so many on the map. So u can take them anyone u want it's just slow lol but if u do make a trap on the otherside of the map it's easy to tame and get fish .

I built my own trap a little differently a few days ago, I tried several different sizes and on this side I couldn't reach him whilst crouched through the walls. It seems to work better on PC.
Smart trap. If anyone doesn't have any access to Tek suit or has a mod that makes shadowmanes spawn on other map i recommend using a decent spino to lure it inside the trap since the spino can climb over the trap

I had a spino spawn nearby and somehow hit me through a huge boulder even!! Which of course woke the cat up. I was like, that's it, I'm making a trap. Bro thanks for this video helped me tame about 6 shadowmanes, now only problem I have is to get 100 efficiency and to catch good xp fish. I even noticed that all fish at 140lvl shadowmane gives 2.5% at 1x taming
My attempt did not work, the Shadowmane was present between the walls but the taming was not happening through the wall. So I removed a wall to feed it but it bugged at one point and wouldn't lay down anymore.
@@RevPVP I managed to start taming but after a while, the taming bug as said above, the Shadowmane does not stop moving in the trap looking to change location and does not fall asleep anymore
People tamed arthro and mantis also by crouching and using ghillie before putting it in a trap. Similar mechanic for shadowmane. Wonder why nooblets didn't think of that😂
I have a team of them for boss battles. High level ones come with as much armor as an ascendant saddle that you don't need to craft first. They hit pretty much the same as Tek Rexes with much better turning radius. They are worth it
@@RevPVP yes, but even dolce tamed ones can get lost of health, and with the armor they’re good, the weight and melee needs work, but mutated they will be ridiculous and they look kinda cool too
I keep one wooden cage on my hotbar while catching fish. You can trap either piranhas or coelecanth with the cage, and they hold perfectly still for the fish trap to initialize. Piranha's also don't bite while in a cage, so it makes fishing 100x easier and I never lose a fish trap.
Hey rev are the pirhanas better taming efficiency than the coels? There's spots in multiple tiny rivers on Eden side with over spawned coels that physically can't move. So I don't wanna miss out on lvls ya know?
This is interesting as I have tried to use a much bigger trap for it to walk and sleep but it didn't fell asleep at all :/ I used the crouching/feeding method for 140 female and 150 male. 2 days I spent doing it and won't do it ever again! I'm breeding them cause I refuse to tame them with this broken system!
Sometimes they just walk around as if they are not aggro'd when they are. This tends to happen when another Shadowmane is nearby it bugs out the AI. Yeah they coded this pretty bad.

Think some can be bugged? Mine is just strolling around inside the trap, doing some headbobbing now and again, but never attacking anything and never sleeping.
So, i found the highest wild stat i think i have ever seen. 39 points in melee wild, 295%, and obviously someone killed it. However, seems there is an internal CD timer for feeding(now?), keeps saying that its already eating. So far i am looking at around 10m+ per feed. 20m+ for first to second feed. Same as usual passive tames. Also, i am trying to tame one right now, and it just walked out of the trap. :D Even teleported at me from inside the trap. My trap is a 2x2 metal, with 3 walls high and ceilings on top. Shadowmane taming is such a pain.

I was using dino gate trap (with gatedoors) but it had to be bigger than 4gate box, cause shadowmanes will clip out of those now

How useful are Shadowmanes tho? Like is it just nice for pve or are they essential for pvp?
They can dismount and have good natural armor, plus they can ground fliers so they are very good for open pvp

The piranha strat is faster for the grabbing fish but if you go through shallow rivers and grab fat fish the shadowmane gets more effectiveness

I don't think the type of fish impact it, but the coels range greatly in size so it's harder to find them either way.

@@RevPVP They know how badly buggy is their game, they know their coding ain't the best, still they releasing the most tedious taming method ever....these devs....
Think some can be bugged? Mine is just strolling around inside the trap, doing some headbobbing now and again, but never attacking anything and never sleeping.
Make sure no other Shadowmanes are in render of him, and also make sure time of day is correct of course.
If it's day and there not asleep net them is will reset them
So, i found the highest wild stat i think i have ever seen. 39 points in melee wild, 295%, and obviously someone killed it. However, seems there is an internal CD timer for feeding(now?), keeps saying that its already eating. So far i am looking at around 10m+ per feed. 20m+ for first to second feed. Same as usual passive tames. Also, i am trying to tame one right now, and it just walked out of the trap. :D Even teleported at me from inside the trap. My trap is a 2x2 metal, with 3 walls high and ceilings on top.
Shadowmane taming is such a pain.
