Everybody thought Li Na was going to be the dominant player on tour. Sadly, she retired shortly afterwards... she was such a lovely person - that backhand was one of the very best ever!
@@regulusarcturus Sorry but that just isn't true. At this point in time (Miami, 2014) Na was the #2 player in the world, having just won her second Slam. Serena, on the other hand, began losing to lower ranked players. At the time, it seemed like either age was catching up, or she was just losing the hunger. Of course, she ended up pulling it together at the end of the year and went on an absolute tear in 2015. Whereas Li Na called it quits just four tournaments after making this final!
@@regulusarcturus as for Na not being consistent - between RG 2013 and RG 2014, she made the QF or better at all but one event - all but one of which were Premier level and above. Two title wins (Shenzhen and Aus Open), two other finals (WTA finals and Miami), 4 semi finals (including Indian Wells and US Open) and 5 other QFs (including Wimbledon and Beijing). You don't get much more consistent than that.
I think what kept Li from achieving more was her weaker mentality as compared to players like Serena and Maria, but she was technically amazing at the baseline tho.
First of all, please don't use Serena name in the same sentence as Maria's. Maria has what?... just 5? Henin has more than that. and second: Maria was a FN dope cheater.
I was a ballboy in indonesia fed cup against China. It was apac region group A. At that time the chinese struggled to beat indonesian mediocre player like Angelique Widjaja and Wynne Prakusya. But 6 years later, I saw Li Na live winning cincy open. 👏
What is funny about this match is the fact that Serena never served at her best. Amazing. Comparing A game Serena and the Serena that won this match just proves how phenomenal she is
Women tennis is a joke now in 2023 you have players like Raducanu and Gauff that are Grand Slam Champions. Both have mediocre games. Li na was never the same after this loss. She retired later that year. To loose a match like this when you're playing at her very best must be hard.
Li Na was a real fighter. Unfortunately her knees could not hold up. Tennis is brutal on the body not to mention all the mental fatigue. This is partly why an elite few have the staying power to get to and stay at or near the top of both rankings and titles.
I did not know Li Na was 32 years old in this match. I thought she was a little younger. Serena is only 5 months older than her. I always thought she was a couple of years younger than Serena. I think Li Na retired later that year
To be fair, Li made a living by dragging her opponent's level down. Just look at some of Li's matches against Sharapova, Azarenka or Venus. They were total shitfests. She was the queen of winning (and losing) ugly.

I definitely admire Li Na's talent and attitude. But only haters won't admit that Serena is the goat, the best ever, the QUEEN.
Amen......
Her greatness on the court inspires me to be better! Serena #goat
@@samuelcrenshaw7405 exactly your right.
In terms of athleticism Serena is certainly amazing. However as a person, disappointing.

Loved her forehand, too.
Nobody thought she would be dominant because she was very inconsistent.

@@andrewmark2783 ok. Winning a slam and being number two does not mean consistency.

I truly n joy this Match!! I've always loved Li Na. Thankz 4 sharing!!👋🙂🌹🥳🎊💕💕
That first set comeback though!

Love the Melodrama album cover!
Regulus Arcturus 🙌
She was a kind player. You must be a shark out there. Also, did she have commitments to her home that kept her from digging deeper?

Good fighter sister Serena
Serena the G.O.A.T
The Queen of Miami 😍😍😍
li Na forces Serena to change her game a bit, but let's be honest, she's really not a challenge for Serena.
Great game by Serena 😍
Na got her titles and at certain times she had the skills to push Serena to her best. But that was all.
Bun up, play time up.
SERENA FOREVER NR 1 ! 🎈🎾🎈🎾🎈🎾🎈🇵🇱
How does Serena not have a court named after he r?
Serena ended LI Na's career. She could not hold up. As soon as Serena picked up a return form in the 2010's she knew it was over
I saw Serena until the end of the march 😂😂😲😂😂😲♥️

Lina says nothing even when she win a good point
Apart from the part where Serena came back, this match wasn’t really that great. To be honest, their matchup never was that great.
Li Na vs Stosur was a REALLY bad match up for Li
What does that say about Li's performance?

Their match-ups were the best! what are you talking about? Li Na gave it to Serena almost every match.
The only good match I know between them was Australian 2010 semifinal. Other than the WTA world tour finals? But Serena bagled her after the struggle
I soo miss Li Na's game. That backhand was just a thing of beauty. A very charming and easy going personality. Li was great for the game.
