WOW! How fortunate organists must feel to watch your series. Thanks so much to both brothers for sharing their talent and time. Your videos have brought me MANY hours of thrilling excitement!
Jonathan, you are the best organist I have ever seen! Your book is so helpful and well thought out. My favorite thing you've played so far has to be the arrangement of Romeo and Juliet Overture Fantasy by Tchaikovsky; that takes skill!!
Thanks Jonathan for another great video/tutorial. I loved your explanation of Rubato and phrasing when accompanying a soloist. Perfect! And Mozart's Laudate Dominum was a prime example. I could hear the soloist in my mind as you played. Just a suggestion to consider ... your 3rd book maybe? - Accompanying Soloists and Congregations. I know you're a solo performance artist but I'm guessing many of your viewers are organists playing for congregations of untrained singers. What are your tips for; keeping the singers together who are singing primarily from memory, large vs small groups, supporting them staying in pitch, anticipating accidentals, challenges of singing in minor key or slowly vs major keys and paced tempos, controlling hall reverb confusion vs playing in a 'dead' sound space while trying to lead singers? Jonathan, I know that you have done it all. I appreciate everything that you have taken the time to share with your viewers. A hearty Thank You!
I have exactly the same user case. There are other videos on yt about such topic, a few good maybe 10 years old. But of course one from Mr Scott would be very nice to watch.
My cat and I really enjoyed this. He (Cal) even brought along his favorite toy. It's fun to learn exactly what all is involved. Thanks. xx BTW, my real name is Madeline.
Oh lovely! Nit that I'm going to learn, but will just enjoy listening/watching. Thank you Jonatab, but I missed the 1st part! Will it come up again on You Tube?
Mr Scott may I ask. If you could make a video on individual stops of the organ. We have a vivace 30 series organ. It's quite small. And I would like to make sound as grand as I can but without distorting the sound and destroying the internal speakers. The organ did not come with external speakers. I would like to know how to properly balance the individual stop by stop volume. Which stops need to be maxed all the way to 9 and which need to be in the negatives - 9 for example. On the great the following stops 16 principal, 8 principal, 8 rohflute, 4 Spitz flute, 4 octave, 2 octave 3 conett, 4 mixture, 16 trumpet 8 trumpet. Swell, 8 principal, 8 bordon, 8 gamba, 8 volxcelest, 4 rohflute, 22/3 quintflute, 2 woldflute, 13/5 trez, 3 mixture, 8 oboe, 8 orchestra oboe. Peddle, 16 principal, 16, subbaass, 16 violon, 8 octavebass, 8 gadeckt, 4 choralbass, 4 mixture, 16 trumpet, 8 trumpet and 4 klarine. I want to get out the most from this organ. What would you recommend the volume to be for each individual stop to get different textures and colours without over shadowing any other stops.
I'm not Jonathan, but let me give some advice on the sounds of Your organ: Digital organ sounds aren't usually very good. There isn't very much to be done here. Try out all the styles of the stops and check which You like most. You should be able to change some of the sounds individually (i cannot recall if Viscount had this option in this line). I would recommend starting from a factory reset of the organ - this usually gives an acceptable result on built-in speakers.
Yeah I second going factory then do each individual accordingly... Its insanely hard to say what should be what volume because it changes by the room as well... They should blend together well but also build up at the same time... The size of the room will effect how you'll want it "voiced" you don't want a flute on the great to over power your oboe you'll use mostly for solos... But you'll also lets say your 4 foot flute in the swell to be too soft because its sometimes a great addition to your oboe and want them too be close enough to gave that blend.
Thanks again for this Jonathon and Tom

I love this video. The organ I have fun with has a nice sound great, choir, swell, antithimal, etc

Very beautiful this anthem that was played in the video, "Abide White Me". Your explanation is very didactic. Congratulations and thank you very much.

Great
Come to Utah in the United States. Cathedral of the Madeleine and the Tabernacle Organ are calling your name.
They're marvelous instruments to play thats for sure.
Always thought about having lessons on the organ but... I wouldn't be able to take proper lessons seriously >.< was a wonder seeing you do it! :D

It's not my style, but you can't knock him. I've learnt a few things, and that's the point I guess.
