Funny, engaging, lively production. Just learning of GK, though I have held an interest in CS Lewis for many years. Also happy to have come across the poem, as I too am so very, very, very, Vegetarian.

oh my god, i am so grateful that GK could speak to me -( to me!) - like this. Salute to the actor, production, uploader, channel - all of you - you gave me the essence of GK in 2021- this is the way the quantum field whispers to me. Thank you, and nod to my S&G's(spirits and guides) for just getting me here, to this vid.
THE SONG OF THE STRANGE ASCETIC G.K. Chesterton If I had been a Heathen, I'd have praised the purple vine, My slaves should dig the vineyards, And I would drink the wine. But Higgins is a Heathen, And his slaves grow lean and grey, That he may drink some tepid milk Exactly twice a day. If I had been a Heathen, I'd have crowned Neaera's curls, And filled my life with love affairs, My house with dancing girls; But Higgins is a Heathen, And to lecture rooms is forced, Where his aunts, who are not married, Demand to be divorced. If I had been a Heathen, I'd have sent my armies forth, And dragged behind my chariots The Chieftains of the North. But Higgins is a Heathen, And he drives the dreary quill, To lend the poor that funny cash That makes them poorer still. If I had been a Heathen, I'd have piled my pyre on high, And in a great red whirlwind Gone roaring to the sky; But Higgins is a Heathen, And a richer man than I: And they put him in an oven, Just as if he were a pie. Now who that runs can read it, The riddle that I write, Of why this poor old sinner, Should sin without delight- But I, I cannot read it (Although I run and run), Of them that do not have the faith, And will not have the fun. (G. K. Chesterton - 1913)
What a wonderful adventure of ideas this was. Regarding one point, Chesterton's perspective on dietetics and before that a bit his perspective on sex. Alan Watts, who made a great tribute to Chesterton (probably can be found on UA-cam), also despised dietetics. I've never quite been in agreement with Watts about that attitude, but I understand the spirit of it. I do accord with the spirit of it, but not with its portrayal. Regarding Gilbert's, he seemed to be especially comfortable with eating as one wishes, what one wishes; but regarding sex he seemed to have quite a different attitude. Eating, especially eating the corporate food, which seems to be everywhere today, is I would submit every bit as dangerous as sex. The real problem Alan and Gilbert miss, but try to get at, is not dietetics as such - which can be steele-manned (see Eric Weinstein on steele-manning), but dietetics corrupted. What really amounts to a counterfeit notion of something that in context isn't bad at all. We must take heed of a very important distinction: a thing's real essence and a think counterfeit, where corruption ensues without sedulous circumspection most readily in the latter.
I became a fan of GK later in my life. But I am better later rather than never.
This man was a far better comedian than the modernists today.
I am so thankful to have been brought this wonderful "lecture" by my school Christian Leaders Institute. Absolutely wonderful presentation!
Me as well. Very good lecture! Christian Leaders College here too!

Also happy to have come across the poem, as I too am so very, very, very, Vegetarian.
Again many brilliant men in Roman Catholic, yet Paul forgo that kind of wisdom that we all admire,to the simplicity of the gospel.

If I had been a Heathen,
I'd have praised the purple vine,
My slaves should dig the vineyards,
And I would drink the wine.
But Higgins is a Heathen,
And his slaves grow lean and grey,
That he may drink some tepid milk
Exactly twice a day.
If I had been a Heathen,

But Higgins is a Heathen,
And to lecture rooms is forced,
Where his aunts, who are not married,
Demand to be divorced.
If I had been a Heathen,
I'd have sent my armies forth,
And dragged behind my chariots
The Chieftains of the North.
But Higgins is a Heathen,
And he drives the dreary quill,
To lend the poor that funny cash
That makes them poorer still.
If I had been a Heathen,
I'd have piled my pyre on high,
And in a great red whirlwind
Gone roaring to the sky;
But Higgins is a Heathen,
And a richer man than I:
And they put him in an oven,
Just as if he were a pie.

Of why this poor old sinner,

But I, I cannot read it
(Although I run and run),
Of them that do not have the faith,
And will not have the fun.
