Show the VMG more. It's almost like the broadcast team doesn't want the general public to see how much higher ETNZ can sail, to give the illusion of the cup being competitive. We can all see that Taihoro can achieve better angle. Britannia's boat speed means absolutely nothing if they have to sail greater distance/more across the course. Velocity made good is the only number that matters. SHOW. US.
Yeah the last stat on VMG I noticed ETNZ was 0.5 knots faster VMG and that is on a relatively small course with a good breeze This translates to about 300meters over the course And notice that is what we are seeing plus I think the NZ boat has more it hasn’t shown It hasn’t had to Race 4 hinted at it though

You are confusing spectacular with exciting. Are those boats spectacular? Of course they are! Everybody saying something different is just stupid. But is the sailing itself exciting? No, not at all. It is all about boat speed and nothing else. Working with the rules, tactics, nothing which makes the excitement of sailing can be seen. The tacking battle now and then - sailing is much more then that.

The sailors are people that spend hours every day, for years, to train and get those boat literally glide over the water. The difference we see between these two boats is not coming out exclusively from the boats "design" but even in how good are the sailors and, even a bit of luck, of catching the right side and the best wind.
As a Kiwi, I have to thank you Aussies for getting us interested in the America's cup. Until you guys won it and then held the next event in Fremantle, there was no interest among the average Kiwi in the cup. Then when we had the fastest boat in the beginning of that campion, all of a sudden the whole country became interested in the racing, only to see the Americans (especially Dennis Conner) pull out all the dirty tricks and go on to win.....then it became personal and we were going to win it no matter the cost or how long it took.

I’m not a sailor, but after a few races, it seems clear why Team NZ is leading the Series: 1. Placement of the trimmer on Team NZ gives them better visibility of the foils. 2. Execution of turns is much faster on Team NZ. I don’t why the other teams haven’t got their turns going as well, considering they’ve had more practice. 3. Nathan Outerridge is also playing tactician as well as helmsman, whereas the other teams helmsman appear to just be steering. Anyway, just some thoughts...I’m sure there’s lots of other differences, but I’m just watching from a layman’s view. 😁
Absolutely insane how ETNZ doesn't lose any distance out of the tacks... compare it to any other team during the LV cup, who consistently lost about 20m out of every tack! Definitely some magic happening with those foils!
Prada would have given us a battle, they would consistently tack and gybe at close to max capacity, 45+kn upwind and than bear away set heading downwind at 50 easily without breaking a sweat, hands down Italy should've been in the final.....

The fact is that at this pinnacle of sailing perfection, there is only a hair's breadth between the two teams. One minor slip and the other team gets the advantage.

The keyboard warriors that are now just starting to watch and make negative comments, if you are not into it then don't watch. I have enjoyed watching the Americas cup from when I was kid. The 80s with all its controversy all the way up until now. Good ol'Dennis Connor and his dirty tactics. The most hated man in the Americas cup. Then Spithill, great sailor. But some of the comments that he has made in press conferences! Then there is Ben Ainslie, he also has said some very unprofessional comments. Team Oracle/Alinghi and all that legal nonsense, court battles craziness. Russell Coutts, selling his soul. But the Team NZ just keeps their head down, keeps trudging forward. Hard work, humble attitude and respect for all those involved. Kiwi ingenuity at the forefront. The best time for the Americas cup was with Sir Peter Blake, get your red socks on! But seeing the pressure put on Dean Barker when Russell bailed was another moment I will never forget. But anyway. Amazing stuff, enjoying every minute. Just a shame about the time zone difference!

I dont think this is like 2013 when Spithill was still learning how to foil the AC72 catamaran Oracle and staged an amazing comeback. You get the feeling that both boats and crews are already close to peak performance and ETNZ is just a bit faster and better crewed.
2013 wasn't just Spithill learning to foil. It was more Oracle bringing on line key upgrades to a boat with more development potential, especially mast rake and rudder redesign (that reduced cavitation) and control systems that allowed it to foil upwind consistently. Something ETNZ couldn't do. Once those upgrades were in place and understood, Oracle was always in the box seat, the time limit race excluded.

Mozzie Sails said Ineos was a brutal world beater and the Kiwi boat would run out of power, sail gear a weak point, foils all wrong and too thin etc etc. Seven races for all that to come true. Just need some good luck as with Lunar Rossa. Bens haunted looking face a bit revealing however as in an pre Challenger series interview. Does he know in his heart of hearts he's not up to the job?
On the "running out of power bit" I found it interesting that TNZ cyclors didn't generate as much power as IB. i.e. they didn't need to generate as much power... and they still won (making one more manouvre).

That was a completely different scenario. Oracle didn’t figure out how to sail their boat until the end and NZ had maxed out. This time NZ has their measure and INEOS is maxed out.

Fortunes change in a heartbeat, losers become winners, and winners can become losers, and lose the whole series. IB is world class, that’s why they won the LVC. And why ETNZ only won by a handful of seconds today.

with respect to the brits , new zealand seem to be better sailors ,there decisions are just better.
However the Brits were the Challenger of record and they have written the rules with the Kiwis
as an (french) enthusiastic follower, trying to understand the skills of both teams, I wonder if TNZL's superiority comes first from the sails setup. Always a smaller jib but main sail still perfectly windy ?
