To me, it’s the best batch out of the last several releases. The Rendezvous rye they use in this is a blend of MGP and their own distillate and for some reason this years release seems like it has more MGP in it like it used too. Seems like the finished barrels they used where pretty wet too, love the finish notes and amber red color. It’s great! Got a case at my grocery store for $74 a bottle.
I got the A9Scene 4 and you were spot on here, dark fruit, ginger bread cookies, plum, great oily mouth feel and finish. Holy hell is this good whisky. I'm a full believer, my first bottle and first time I've tried it. Scored here.

I broke open a bottle of this at a Christmas party with a bunch of non-whiskey people. It was a huge hit. The first person I poured for said, "this smells like a glass full of Christmas". Everyone loved it. Bottle was slain. I thank my wife for having the foresight to buy a couple back ups.
We don't get the turning leaves down here unfortunately... And lately it's been difficult to travel much. But I still get a bit of giddy anticipation each late summer for pumpkin pie, Sam Adams Winter Lager, and Midwinter Night's Dram! I'm a simple (foody) guy! 😊

Yikes. Anyway, the secondary prices are out of control, so maybe I made out OK. Anyway, like Dan, I am a High West fan (I liked the Rendezvous Rye more than him as well) so was looking forward to this. It is excellent, of course. I swear I get gingerbread on the nose, with the usual baking spices. The hint of blackberry and plum on the finish is quite pleasing. Is it worth 2 bills though? Hard to say. I justified it as an early Christmas present to myself. Otherwise, I think 150 or less seems more reasonable. I’m still glad I got it.

That’s awesome timing at High West to be able to grab a case! 7 and 8 were both excellent for sure. One of our absolute favorites. Eyes will be peeled for 9 but the word in the Nashville market is out and we don’t suspect we’ll see one unless it’s inside a raffle format. Fingers crossed.
How would you compare this to Blanton’s Gold? Taste seems similar, though I think MWND act 9 is richer thanks to the port finish. I think both are comparable, but WTF do I know
Blanton's gold isnt as good. Doesn't have the same dimensions as the MWND from the finishing. Also Dan has a case, and I have my 1 bottle. We're both good for the year 😭
I was in Park City this past weekend and tried the new MND... and I didn't really like it. Milam & Greene (Blanco, TX) have a port finished rye that I think is some of the best liquid on Earth. The MND was good, the color was beautiful, but the overall experience didn't hit for me. I wouldn't turn down a glass offered to me, but I don't think I can bring myself to spend more than $60 for it. I just can't taste the "wow" factor.
Got punked on this bottle today at the ABC store. While getting the usual Blanton's and ER, I asked, "was there a High West box on the counter earlier" and he said, "yeah, some mid-something or other" so of course I said I'll take one of those too. Then he puts a High West American Prairie Bourbon on the counter. Daggummit!
$200 is bullshit! It is unique but even at $100 that is the top of what it’s worth for me. We need more distilleries to throw their hat into the ring. Opinions vary of course.🥃
How would whiskey age in a bottle? As a example, bought an expensive bottle to save for a special occasion and a few years go by? Would it be better/worse or could it be both🤷♂️ If you open something and like it and try to save it will it change? Or if it's good drink it and buy more till you cant. Is it better to stick with consuming yearly releases vs collecting good bottles similar to vintage wine collecting? Just curious...
We've always been in the camp of opening bottles changes them. If you have something that's not opened it shouldn't change at all unless you keep it Infront of a window. Sunlight is very bad for whiskey
