My family lives in Punxsutawney pa and while I know Hollywood was making their version ...some of the people were very upset because it wasn't done in the actual town .. the actual hotel is named the pantell hotel ... Punxy Phil's is the restaurant and Gobblers knob is not even in town ..and the bed in breakfast is on the outskirts of town ... It's a shame that a town and state gets recognized for the movie that rightly belongs to Punxsutawney

That is interesting. Thanks for sharing that. My best guess why it was filmed in Woodstock was that Harold Ramis lived near the area it was filmed.
This was filmed in my home town. Personally, I think the movie sucked. Woodstock needs to get over it. I won't live there anymore.
