Nika silently shaping the gabion while you explain and work at the same time😊 . Bedside mysterious hole is finally known now , it's quite a good idea and future planning is necessary as you are doing it👍❤️
Good on you explaining the strategies for your decisions.. I wouldnt be this patient but not everyone has watched every earthship, permaculture and sustainability YT build. lol keeep it going bro!
Cool video. That solar power station is great and useful for many things. What are the day and night temperatures at the moment ? Is there some rain to expect in January or February ?
@@GrowTreeOrganics Oh ok, it's hard to figure out the temperature with the sun and you wearing a little hoodie. I'm still curious about how you will seal the roof, that's why I was expecting some rain soon. ;)
Great work guys! This kind of off-grid living is my wet dream 😅 If it's not too inappropriate to ask, what is your financial backbone to be able to do all this and not starve to death? I imagine the youtube income is more like a sidehustle?
The beauty of building this way is the low cost, and we're more homebodies, and this is where I like being anyway. But the channel has been growing and so income is gradually increasing as well. I do Permaculture Consultations, along with building earthworks and structure projects on others properties as more of my "side hustle" you could say.✌🏾
Been following for a month or 2 now and maybe I'm missing something but is that floor finished? One would think you would finish a floor before placing furniture?
Oh no no, we do things Unconventional, so looks will be deceiving! 😅 we'll cover more on the floor soon. We're almost to the inside mudding and such!✌🏾
@GrowTreeOrganics it would just mean if you had to alter or change things later you would have to redo the floors. I renovate houses for extra income and I'm very interested in seeing how it all turns out. We are at a different end of the scale where everything has to be high end finishes but ive always wanted to do a cabin in the bush like you guys are doing. Unfortunately the New Zealand government makes us do everything with consents and has to come up to earthquake standards and a lot of the work has to be done by tradesmen or you cant get insurance. I'm really keen to see how it all turns out for you guys, the liberties you can take are amazing, everyone in the world would have a warm dry home to be proud of if we could all do what you are doing.
The rocks have been stacked in the wall appropriately, so they aren't just leaning on the baskets. If the basket were to rust away the rocks would Still stand!✌🏾
really great work you 2... Brandon master carpenter, nika master mud maker.... couple questions!: in montana you were way ahead of the curve before power stations, using the bigger standalone batteries and charge controllers... are you still using those in any form, or have totall switched to the portable power stations? 2nd question, what brand of deep freezer are you running? what do you think of it? i am debating between the kind with the door on top, vs side door....
(YT wouldn't let me explain about plywood out-gassing. Hoping this gets through.) Plywood will out-gas formaldehyde for months. The glue used in plywood and chipboard is a product of K o c h industries, which funds anti-EPA politics for obvious reasons. Sealing it makes it out-gas much smaller amounts over years, which will be much more dilute and anyway get exhausted as outside air mixes in. Traditional toxicology assumes that sufficiently low exposure to any toxin is harmless, more a rule of convenience than something demonstrated in each case. There is growing evidence it is not true for many toxins, particularly carcinogens and hormone-analogs like PFAS. (A contrary theory of "hormesis", that tiny doses of certain toxins bring benefit by engaging defensive processes, is entirely too self-serving, and has been demonstrated for only a few stressors not including those.) Formaldehyde exposure is the third most frequent avoidable cause of cancer in the US.
I see. Thanks for bringing those bits of info to the table. Is that assuming you received fresh plywood? Wouldn't most off gassing happen between coming out of the factory to when it gets to a store location? Most stores have a warehouse where they store this, so wouldn't it have enough time to off gas? Curious to know more detail. Thank you!✌🏾
You brag it'll last longer than a conventional house my grandfather lives in germany and his conventional house has been standing since the seventeen hundred. And it has all the modern features. Wi-Fi lighrs power water septic it'll will be standing long after your house is gone.

Nika's got some serious skills!😅✌🏾
Moving right along! As always, good work, good attitude. ✌️
I can't not be happy. We're almost closed in!✌🏾😅

Really appreciate it! Cheers!✌🏾
I'm watching this project since the beginning and can't wait for it to make progress.
The video making improved a lot. Today's video shows a big leap.
Really appreciate that insight and that you've hung around that long to notice! Thank you!💚✌🏾
Its pretty cool seeing this come together. Thanks for sharing.
We're really glad you're enjoying the journey! Thank you!✌🏾
Nice to be working inside during the winter! Great work 👍🏼
It's definitely much more comfortable than building in the summer. Ive been in sandals just about this whole time!😅✌🏾
You both are amazing!! I follow you both!
Neka and I appreciate the love!💚✌🏾

Really hoping to expect some... more so once we get inside!😅🌧
Outside day, 60s mid 50s. Night time we dipped 18°F the other night but were in the low 20s.✌🏾

Since I our working with your fridge I’ll have to say “cool” 🐺

Wow! Nice work Brandon! I hope you and Nika have a great day.
Thank you, we're both doing well! 💚✌🏾

We don’t have much to pay for, a side hustle is all we really need 😅

i love this project i cant wait to see hat you build next!
So much exciting stuff!✌🏾
I will say you get more done than tiny shiny house does
Thanks, we got plenty more to get done!😅✌🏾
I’m curious. I all along thought you were building a home. But I hear about greenhouse more than I hear kitchen
You could say that! It's both, really. Just havent found or installed the sink yet!😉🤔😅✌🏾
Great job.
So half of this building is your house and the other half the greenhouse?
Love the way you custom build everything?
Thanks for noticing! It's a little more complicated than that, but we'll break it all down in later videos!✌🏾

@shanekeat7473 I see. Thanks for sharing. You'll definitely see how the floor turns out and won't be as big a hassle to change or replace things. ✌🏾
I love this.
My question is about the gabion wall. What happens if the wire rust and fails?
The rocks have been stacked in the wall appropriately, so they aren't just leaning on the baskets. If the basket were to rust away the rocks would Still stand!✌🏾
heck yeah bro! algorithm and whatnot
Much Love!💚✌🏾
So cool! 🤙
Thank you very much!💚✌🏾

You two are modern day Noah’s!
Thank you, very much appreciated!💚✌🏾
Did you replenish the battery via solar the next day?
I did! You'll see next weekend!✌🏾
