      Don't create false feminist narratives , he wanted the cubs once they disappeared he stopped fighting. It wasn't the fighting skills of the moma that made him leave .
      Male bears fight with bears their own size let alone a skinny mother .
      Bears are cannibals that moma was lucky they were on a hill top , on flat land she might have ended up as his meal .

      Sounds like you might be getting your male chauvinist in you in a tizzy. If the male bear was that hungry, and seems not to be, then momma would be dead too. And male bear didn't quit lookin. He just quit fighting because it wasn't worth getting hurt fighting with momma. So yea the momma gave him a run for his money and he backed off. Didn't quit but backed off. I'm sure he heard cub still squalling that's why he went to back side .

      "As women"??
      Like men were chasing children to eat them, and activate the processus of oestrus in females, to mate and assure its genetic hegemony?
      We, primates are very different. In our species, infanticides are more often committed by females/women.
      The comparaison with a female urside is irrelevant in terms of behavior, but flattering and empowering for sure.
      Not saying that there are no great human mothers, there are plenty, Just that the fathers are generally not cannibals( unlike bears.)

    • @vinnievenus3570
      @vinnievenus3570 Місяць тому

      Yes.
      It’s nice that the mother bear protects her children.
      Very nice.
      But let’s not be too forgetful of everything in ascertaining such a statement.
      What am I talking about?
      Simply this.
      I recently watched a video on UA-cam which show cased a lady hiking with her daughter in Alberta.
      Unfortunately the two ran into a mother grizzly with two cubs.
      The human mother and daughter wasn’t hurting the grizzly or cubs.
      But the mother grizzly tore the human mother and her 11 year old daughter to pieces simply because they were in her vicinity in the wilderness.
      So?
      Is the mother bear the epitome of mother hood there too?
      And often times a mother bear will kill another mother of another terrestrial species and that molecular species babies too in order to feed the bears young.
      So?
      Is that too the epitome of mother hood?
      Or or
      Is Mother Nature possibly just simply crazy?
      At times?
      In this existence?
      In setting up such a scenario?
      That way.
      In this life.
      Hey🤫it’s just a question.

    This is quite an awesome video. Many people are complaining that you ended the video early - they don’t know how it works in real life! Sometimes the cub could be lost for hours or 1-2 days even, before reuniting with mom, and surviving by climbing up a tree and staying there. Sometimes, the cub falls victim to the bear further away. Shows how incredibly shallow people are nowadays, expecting all videos to be like the movies or something.

    I am a photographer that lives near the East Gate to Yellowstone. Our Boars typically do not "eat" the babies, as the babies are always just found dead later, not consumed. The boars will seek them out and kill them so the sow goes back into heat.

    • @bradjosephs
      @bradjosephs  Місяць тому +13

      Nope. They eat them. And this behavior has been viewed many times in September and October, and we have also seen females do it. It takes 2 weeks for the female to come back into estrus, and there is no way he will be the only male to benefit, plus being mid July, it’s too late for her to come into estrus.

      You are correct. Even in Katmai the boars that have killed cubs don't always eat them when there's salmon around. If this was September or October they would probably eat them but the instinct to kill them still may not be for the sole intent of getting a meal. Anyone who tells you why they do what they do without question is just up in their own ego because even the behavioral scientists will tell you that there could be many reasons and they don't know for sure. (If the boars ALWAYS ate the cubs then there would be no question but they don't.) Some of them suggest that it may be a way to keep the competition down before it ever gets up, like natural population control. We just don't know because bears can't talk. lol

    • @lilyd1010
      @lilyd1010 Місяць тому +2

      @@roximama I've seen them kill cubs, especially the little ones. I think it's human nature to think we can translate any animals behavior into human understanding. But what I've seen is they take them like a little toy n toss them away. That's been my humble experience. When Mamas return w/o their cubs the following year, it's really upsetting because then we just don't know anything n everyone is hungry.

    I think evolution screwed mama bear over, when it comes to size disparities. I definitely think she would’ve benefited from being larger in size compared to the males. One example I can think of, where this is true: birds of prey 🦅
    Tenacity and fearlessness goes a long way to keep those cubs alive, but muscle mass helps out too.

    Here is a quote from my friend and bear expert Drew Hanilton.
    “ There are lots of reasons infanticide happens in bear populations but sexual selection is the least likely reason. There are many reasons it doesn’t make sense: seasonal hormone patterns/limited breeding seasons: with essentially a month to mate does it make sense spending 10-14 days waiting for a female to come back estrous? Geographic distribution: bears can be far ranging creatures, if infanticide occurs outside mating season what are the odds those two bears will be in the same place for mating season?
    Why would a female commit infanticide? That happens more than people thibnk.
    I could go on and on.
    It is like it was written up in a paper in 1975 and perpetuated through grad student lit reviews for 50 years.
    People need to put some weird perverted twist on it and ignore the most obvious reasons: predation, rank and hierarchy dynamics, and the fact that family groups frequently run from other bears.
    Bears are hard on other bears, that is a fact, and if you are the smallest, weakest, bear you won’t survive some of the situations larger bears would.”

    Yes you did a good Job and picking up this is very unusual master piece . How many videos of a sow protecting her Cubs in a near death situation is not many. I think this one tops the best . I can only find maybe 10 on you tube simular to this very clear action. they are hundreds of you tube videos with boars and sows fighting but not on a cliff with cubs involved. this can stand next to the boar attacking a sow on a rocky mountain clif with both falling 150 so feet and boar not serviving . another one where a boar nocks a cub off the rocky clif falling to its death. sow found it and finding a safe place for it not relizing it was all ready dead. Nature tell us we are living for the limmit and the strongest servive. religion contradicts it left and right it seems.
