Do ATMs accept $2 bills for deposits?

- Ever tried to deposit a 2 dollar bill into an ATM? Ever wondered if $2 bills would be accepted? The director of The Two Dollar Bill Documentary gave it a shot in this video, and found that a money transfer isn't always what it seems. At banks like Chase and Bank of America, varied numbers of twos went in - did anything come back out? It's not as easy as online banking, but in this case, it was more fun. You may even learn how to deposit money in atm.

Weird channel, but, I'm glad I found it.
Glad you found it too. I haven't done a new video in a bit but I'll be soon be ramping back up. In the meantime, enjoy what's here - there's lots of good videos on a variety of $2 bill topics.
I repair ATMs for a living. Here's the real answer to the question, it 100% depends on the bank and what they have configured their validator to handle. It doesn't matter if it's an NCR, Diebold, Hyosung or whatever. When you do a deposit, all the bills go through a validator and that has to be programmed for each type of bill to be able to validate it. If they aren't programmed in to the machine, it will refuse them and return them to the customer (in the US, over seas, they capture what doesn't pass the validator.)
All that being said, I do not know of any banks that refuse to accept them personally, but it IS an option
Thank you for the comment! It's kinda like vending machines then, where it's just a matter of being programmed. I was going to ask you which banks refuse them, but you answered it already. I'm curious why you think the ATM did not take 2 of the bills at the first drive-thru I went to. I can understand the later one, where the bills were in poor condition, but the first two were really pure. Any ideas?
@@TheTwoDollarBillDocumentary It's the same reason that they will sometimes reject $20s and such, it just didn't get a good read on it, if you put it in again, it most likely would take it. The way the validators look at the bill, if a crease is in the wrong spot, it can cause it to be unable to validate on some passes.. you have to realize that these bills are moving through the device very quickly and the validator only has so long to be able to verify it, so if it misses, it rejects the bill, and you try again. It also makes a difference on who is maintaining the machine, the validator has a glass in it and considering how filthy money is, it builds up in the system. My company has a policy to run a cleaning kit through the entire cash acceptor at least every 180 days, but more often is better, depending on the use of the machine of course.
Short answer is this, had you tried again, those bills would probably have been accepted
I once successfully spent a two dollar bill at a self-checkout.
I was waiting for this one.
This should be great. Looking forward to it
Been waiting for this for 1 week
The last time I made a deposit of cash you put it in an envelope and it was counted by a teller later on. I guess it's been a while huh?
Sure has.
What is a change of currency or a face lift of the dollar backed by gold and silver ..........
Yes. They do. I've done it many times.
Glad you watched anyway. :)
Bruh this is real currency and some of it doesn’t even get accepted
I never knew you could do a deposit through an ATM machine lol it used to be you put it in an envelope and put it in a box at the bank lol
That was a long time ago. Now you just shove your cash in and the machine sorts it and does the rest.
The Two Dollar Bill Documentary that’s always nice I don’t put money in the bank I either have cash or get it out of the bank since I get direct deposit but I prefer cash so I don’t ever put it in the bank. I still have had no luck getting any $2 bills they all laughed at me at the bank lol.
Bring your phone in next time, cued to this video: ua-cam.com/video/IKj7bxstnMY/v-deo.html When they laugh at you, show it to them, and then laugh at them when you tell them you're taking your business elsewhere.
The Two Dollar Bill Documentary lol I will try that
I have never deposited money at an ATM whether it be a check or cash. And I have goon to multiple ATMs
Did you contact Bank of America and get your money back? That's disturbing that you didn't get your money back. If it happened to you, I'm sure it's happened to others.
He cpuld always file a complaint, and he aldo has video proof of the incident
I've gone through it frame by frame and I think there's a chance I may have accidentally deposited $8, when I thought I was depositing $10. It's a logical explanation for what happened, although I can't be sure. Even if I did lose $2, it certainly made for a more entertaining ATM visit. Thus, I wasn't too disappointed in losing $2 in the grand scheme of things.
good..i have to do that this week.
What... deposit your $2s? You should spend them instead.
@@TheTwoDollarBillDocumentary i spent about 12 of them and then got tired of it and brought the other batch in to the bank. People for whom i sued them on, all had to take a double look as i explained to them the $2 bill is a real thing. I also brought in my half dollars to the bank as well.
Very cool your right who would return the 2$ Bill's lol
Stay hydrated please.
We'll follow your lead, Cheddar
I was very surprised that they accepted them. I had some ratty old $1 Silver Certificates and the ATM rejected them. By the way I think I recognized the $2 bill you sent me in the video. AM I correct?
Not sure. It came from the same pile. May have been one I got back. Can you see and compare the serial number?
How do you order bands of two dollar bills
You go to the bank and ask for them. Straps come in $100 and $200 packs, but your best bet for getting them is to order $200 worth. Sometimes the bank will have them. If not, they can order them, and the result is a crisp stack of sequential serial-number bills. If the bank says no, they're just being lazy or difficult. Tell them you're using the bills for a charity event or something, and they may be more likely to make the effort to order them.
How can you successfully. Also I really need one plz . Im subscribed with all notifacations.
I don't give away $2 bills. But I'll sell you a couple for more than $2 each if you're interested!
What? It did not return those 2! Hmmmm...
I used a $2 for bus fair it read it as 1
Uh-oh. Did you end up getting credit for the $2 ?
Yes luckily the driver was nice👍
I like 2 dollar bills
Can we use 2$ bill at airports ..??
Why not?
3:22 Should've called the number on the ATM
It was worth the $2 to have something more interesting happen in this video.
@@TheTwoDollarBillDocumentary That call would in my opinion have been entertaining though. 😉
I'll have to do a sequel video where I call to complain.
First!!
Why are 2 dollars bills made not the 1000 and the 500 hundred dollar bills?
We did a video on that topic almost a year ago to the day: ua-cam.com/video/p_W1dEOjJ6M/v-deo.html
7:43 and counting
what?
Does Bank of America accept 1 dollar bill deposit
In an ATM? Yes It takes all cash - except some $2 bills as you saw here.
I would hold on to the $2 bills they are still in circulation, but they are not printed anymore
but they are printed
The last print was is 2020
This channel even addresses that belief in other videos. Two-dollar bills are still printed! With roughly the same amount in production as fifty-dollar bills, even.
I would spend them, keeps them in the public consciousness, which may keep them being printed.
BOA it is, people! Open your account there! LOL
They don't take them they keep them LOl
They sure do.
BOA ripoff
Most of these posts are outdated.
This video is almost 3 years old, yes. What am I supposed to do, delete them all as if they have an expiration date? People still watch them, and I'm still making new content, just not as often as I used to. Thanks for the negativity.
Outdated how? 3 years isn't that long, and none of the statements in the video have been rendered false in that time.
