    Wow! This is the fix I needed. We have some beautiful old fixtures on a claw foot tub that came with the house. I’ve rebuilt the hot water side at least 3 times over the last decade trying to quiet it down. Today tried a bevel washer and boom! Quiet tap. Amazing how long I’ve been looking and this seems to be the only vid mentioning this fix. Fantastic work! Thank you

    Oh my freak days. I'm so annoyed.
    I had this noise of water hammering for months from the bathroom sink. Was driving me crazy. Watched a couple of this geezers video and then came to this.
    Read one of the comments and it was staring me in the face....water pressure!
    So turn down main stop tap pressure and realised that pressure too much upstairs, adjusted the cold/hat stop taps on thr bathroom tap and BOOM problem solved.
    Thank you so much. I can't express how grateful I am to you.

    Thanks very much for the tip. I have the washer vibrating problem on a washing machine conversion tap which has a water inlet tube in the centre of the washer rather than a standard removable valve and washer, so I removed the flat washer and replaced it with a conical washer intended for a flexible hose nut. So far, it is working and has stopped the hammering when the tap was partially opened. 😁😁😁

    dude i have this problem myself with one ceramic tap. The hammer noise happens because of the moving watter and sudden top will create a huge spike in pressure and putting at risk all the installation that has bad joints. My Tap is a monoblock dual mixer and it only happens when you shut the water off . With your one you cannot do it fast anyway but with a up and down motion you get that alot. What is the solution to that? I assume we need to install a expansion vessel to absorb the spike of pressure on that line. Is that a good solution?

    Another tip learned from experience is that the nut holding tap washers in place often falls apart when you try to undo it, and then you'll often find there's then nothing to physically hold the washer in place. Using a socket or ring spanner instead of an adjustable to remove said nut makes this breakage less likely to happen.

    Hello, can you help me out. We recently had a plumber replace the float valve on the tank in the attic as it was worn out and leaking. Since then I've noticed, particulary at night when it's quiet, that when you flush the toilet and the cistern is filling up, you can hear a vibration coming from what sounds like the tank in the attic. This morning I could hear the noise from the kitchen and when I touched the cold tap, which was off, I could feel it vibrating. When I turned it on slightly the noise and vibration stopped. Any idea where the problem lies ?, Thank you

    Great video thank you! I live in a small block of flats and whenever some one uses shared mains, there is loud water hammer. Mine does the same and can hear the bang coming from the actual stop cock rather than tap. Building is for the 60's and likely still have original stopcock, so could a replacement washed in each stop the banging, or would new stopcocks be recommend? Is there anything else that could be the cause please? Water pressure is 3.5 bar, so unlikely this would be the cause would it?

    • @dereton33
      @dereton33 8 років тому

      That would definitely be it, water pressure is too high, see if you can get it down to about 2 bar. Try turning the main stopcock right off, then back on, just a half of turn.

    • @deaneprox
      @deaneprox 8 років тому +1

      Thank you for your reply. I like you thought it would be related to high pressure, but I had Thames Water out who took measurement and said 3.5 bar isn't so high. I could certainly adjust my stopcock, but getting all 5 other neighbours to do this might not be suitable as of course lower pressure will mean weaker showers.

    These rubber dome washers are not a long term solution. They wear out very quickly. Better solutions available, for home gamers, this includes anti hammer washers, in-line control valve, inline hammer arrestors. Recutting the valve seat and adding a new neoprene washer can fix sometimes the issue to. All parts readily available at big hardware stores.

Can you please explain why it comes on by itself with the tap off? Thank you

    • @dereton33
      @dereton33 7 років тому +1

      If the tap is low pressure feed from a roof tank. then when the tap is used the valve in the loft has to fill to replace the water you have used. So just replace the ballcock in the tank and job sorted. If you are on a combi boiler then the tap washer wants replacing and the water pressure turned down. Some times just reducing the flow of pressure by turning down the main stopcock can fix it.
