It's been a very long time since I thought about Stephen Murray. Learning about Pat Casey today made me wanna look up Stephen and I found your video. I worked at Nirve as part of their video production team and spent plenty of time with Stephen filming him at plenty of competitions including Gravity Games and XGames. He was definitely at a different level on the dirt, compared to the rest during that time.
Stay strong is done. I don’t see any BMXers supporting this brand anymore. This company was about Stephen and not the products.we are a core sport and will support accordingly.
Haven't kept up with BMX for a fair few years but decided to build a new BMX and when I saw Stay strong parts everywhere, my first though was, that's fantastic that Stephen Murray's company is doing so well. I wonder how he's doing. So bummed to find this out. Stephen Murray is Stay Strong. The least they could have done is stick him on the payroll as an ambassador. Thanks for the informative video Mike. Fk StayStrong
There's always a moment in time that BMX riders need to learn how to walk away from it. I have always been a part of it but the toxicity in the sport really deters me from riding now. The rolder you get, the more pro riders you meet, and unfortunately you realize not all of them are good people. Stephen has always seemed like a great guy and I wish the best for him. Good on you for taking care of your family and realizing BMX isn't everything.
That sucks to hear. I met Nick Bruce and another pro younger guy I didn’t know of named Aaden Reed. Both amazing humans. But there are many shit heads. Ricany comes to mind
I have been in a similar situation as him with an injury. The money raised for me was done at my local track where injury happened @capecodbmx. I thank them so much for what they did. Trek bicycles also raised some money for me, and i did not even ride a trek. I rode torker bikes. For reasons like this, it is tough to support these so called charities since most of the money does not go where it should.
I saw his post and I felt so bad for him. I did see the response from the other guy and I wish it was a video of him and not written. The raw emotions Murray had says way more than that response. Thanks for sharing this Mike.
We love you Stephen, you are an inspiration to us. We refuse to buy anything Staystrong now that we have learned this please let us know if there is anything we can do to help support you!
I think you should read the response from Stay Strong, everything Stephen said isn't fully accurate. Remember there is always two sides to the story but at the end of the day I wish Stephen and his family the best
I did read the response today. Still think that it’s pretty relevant that Stephan’s message should be out there. Definitely hope that he finds his footing on this for sure.
@@MikeFede right on, after reading the response I don't know if boycotting or supporting or advocating for a boycott of Stay Strong is actually appropriate.
Personally, I think if you were only buying stay strong to support Stephen and they are no longer supporting him, then I think it’s worth boycotting purchasing the products if your sole purpose to purchase them was to support him. I do see where you’re coming from though🤘🏾
@@MikeFede right away I was 100% F them burn it down then I read the other side of the story and I was like ok seems like there is more to this. Doesn't sound like it was bought by some bankers and is still a small company. To me it's still unclear what support is or isn't happening. It does sound like two business partners didn't agree on the direction of the company and one chose to leave. I wish Stephen all the best either way.
@@cglasford1 where can I read stay strong response. Can’t find anything anywhere. (Edit. I found Marco’s response now and see Stay strong have posted it up too. Puts it all in perspective doesn’t it. Not so clear cut. Also the company that brought into SS are a very large BMX owned and run company not just an investment firm.)
He was one of my most fave rider if not my fave… Stephen Murray Corey nastazio and TJ lavender Corey bohen and Ryan nyquist and Dave mirra!🎉🎉🎉❤❤❤❤❤❤ can’t forget Scotty Cranmer either… he was a machine!!!! And Jamie bestwick 🎉🎉🎉
This is going to sound wrong…but whenever I am dealing with an injury…like right now tendonitis on my elbow…I watch videos like this and feel much better. My mild injury is nothing in comparison…all I have to do is put on an elbow wrap and go weightlifting. Stephen Murray cannot even walk…imagine how he would feel if I told him how bothered I was about tendonitis. I would never do that to him…but to him I am sure he would do anything to be able to walk and do anything physical. I swear if I were a God of some sort I would give him the ability to walk again. I hate that his condition makes me feel better about whatever injury I may be dealing with…but I guess that is just human.
Did you watch the video? Also as someone with a decade plus in the industry and worked at a shop. Kink wtp and fly make the nest value completes. I'd go kink of those sre the 2 choices you're set on. Bur check out fly bikes and we the people as well.
Personally, I wouldn’t buy this stay strong bike, but I definitely would encourage you to try to find someone that rides similar to your writing style and see what they ride as a complete bike to better help your decision process. It was a choice between the two that I definitely would pick kink.
Been out of the game for a while and I’m having truck problems so ima get a bike to get around and saw all the wild new brand names. Noticed this stay strong brand and liked the price and specs. Being the banged a legend I’m not buying it
It was started as tee shirts and donations to help Stephan out. A none profit? Now it’s a for profit company and he doesn’t get any money? That’s pretty fucked up.
Yup!, I have been a big supporter since day one and and I bought most of the apparel and some of the bike parts over the years. I certainly hope Stephan finds his path from this.
Hopefully something new comes along to fill that gap. I have had so many yellow parts throughout the yrs.. haha. Not gonna lie.. won't be missing that color tho.
I new something was fishy with them parts. Thought some mountain bike pacific sun type bullshit took over and I was questioning his or his kids involvement. Thank you for the enlightenment. Get a lawyer or just start designing new parts new name for us old heads, have his kids get involved. Whatever he does will be overwhelmingly supported.
It's always seemed weird to me that the brand was race orientated when he was a freestyle rider. 50/50 race/freestyle made sense but once the complete bikes started dropping it showed to me that something had changed. It's a shame but now I hope a brand like S&M or United here in the UK do something with him to rebuild what he loves
According to the guy that started the company with him, his parents decided to back away from the company and cash out there shares. Something is fishy.
It doesn’t surprise me When stockholders and everything else get involved & I think it would be a good out with paperwork came out Is that a word from mouth! And I think he’ll get more people talking about it in a very big up war Instead of coming on video show the paperwork.
Support company's who support what you love . Support rider owned companies. Corporatism only seeks to exploit the talent of riders for their own gains. They don't give 2 shits about BMX or BMXers .
Absolutely. My decisions already made but everybody should take the time to make their own decision. I read the other halfs response and something seems a little bit off with the not only timing but other things as well. If Stephen wants to put out a response to it then I am all ears, but I think the emotion in his video, and his initial video speaks volumes.
Holy shit!!! This is so sad. Murray was always a positive dude prior to the crash and afterwards. You can see and hear how hurt he is in the video. This is terrible bro. Pretty sure you don’t know my channel name but it’s your old brand manager from Va with EVDATH with the ultimate tramp stamp and Pitbull’s. I’ll text you bro.
Paperwork would be better, then come in on video! I think it would be better. But it’s a 50-50 shot. It needs to be talked about and it doesn’t surprise me. Paperwork will come along way and going on video and talking about it.
Back then people divided things when it came to firsts. Mirra was the first in park and Murray was the first on dirt. Both doing it in xgames. I know Murray was xgames Philly, but I can’t recall the city for Mirra. Now it isn’t so defined and is more broad. I also forgot to mention Murray did the first 360 flip turndowns too. Pretty insane era in Bmx!
I have heard of all sides. Still feel like it’s worth publishing and if anyone from the other side wants to give me their side of the story with some proof that I’m all about posting it. Murray definitely is not a shitty person and since this video I have been able to talk to him and would feel confident about possibly asking him about being on a live stream.
