    Thanks for the tutorial. Was able to do both sides on mine since I couldn't find the same Philips bulb and I bought Sylvania.

    You saved me a lot of money the dealer wanted to charge me $450 claiming they had to do a full system review.

      Brian Kelso Wow, that's crazy. Glad I saved you some cash.

    You can change the bulb on the driver's side of 2013 S4 without removing any screws. You have to reach down behind the light fixture and snake your hand into the fixture. You have to be very, very careful not to break the bulb and it takes a little dexterity. I removed the old bulb and then reinserted it as a "dry run." Once I was comfortable with that, I was able to GENTLY insert the new bulb. Of course you risk breaking the new bulb which is fragile. Anyways it worked out for me but I emphasize practicing with the old bulb several times.

      It's doable, but was easy enough to just pull the housing out and not risk damage to the bulb.

      @@ThomasGillot Hello i'll try change my bulb too. One friend told me , that i have to change 2 bulb per side . I have a4 b8 december 2008. Did u change one bulb ? Or if i change one bulb the "white" will be only on my daily light?(now is "yellow")? Thank you

      @@JustSomebodddyyy If you have the factory bi-xenon headlamps there is only one bulb per side. Believe those with factory halogen have two bulbs per side (high/low).

    My 2014 S4 had a plastic retaining clip at the base of the bulb. You twist this clip counter clockwise to release the bulb instead of twisting on the bulb itself. I would not have had to remove the assembly had I known so hopefully this helps somebody else.

      Good to know. It may be slightly different on the S4. From my experience working on Audi cars, trying to save time does not save time.

    Was this the main headlight bulb or the daytime running light bulb. I have a 2011 a4 premium plus with the daytime running light strip. The passenger one went out and when I pulled the headlight out I couldn't tell which of the 3 bulbs it was to order a replacement for it

    • @ThomasGillot
      @ThomasGillot  6 років тому

      This was the main xenon headlamp bulb. Are you saying your LED daytime running light strip went out? Not sure if that is replaceable.

    • @ddll6709
      @ddll6709 6 років тому

      Thomas Gillot yes the LED strip. I tried searching up online for it and found nothing. I assume it's replaceable because I constantly get that annoying info on the dash about it being inoperative

    Can you just change the bulb itself ?

      Some have said that they could get to the driver side bulb without removing the headlamp, but it is very tight with the power steering reservoir in the way (at least on the 2.0T). If it was me, I would just remove the headlamp to prevent potentially damaging the bulb.

    You do not need to remove headlight housing to replace this bulb

    • @ThomasGillot
      @ThomasGillot  6 років тому +1

      Scott Wernersbach The power steering reservoir is in the way on the driver’s side, so not sure how you would get the bulb out without removing the headlamp, or at least sliding it forward.

      Thomas Gillot just replaced the driver side in 3 minutes without removing headlight housing and I have big hands too. Passenger side needs to be removed though.

      I have a 2014 S4. Driver side can be replaced in five minutes tops. The passenger side I just moved the air intake out of the way and was able to replace the bulb through the back of the headlight. That took maybe 15 minutes. Both work fine.

    I’m sorry, but I have to interject. I have a 2015 B8.5 S4. I saw this video in my search for the best way to change my own bulb. Once Thomas got to the part where one can turn the bulb 1/4 turn counterclockwise and remove the bulb, I asked myself, “Why should I remove the entire light housing? I went to Auto Zone, bought a D3S bulb, went out to the parking lot, opened up my hood, removed the rubber cover, reached in and took out the bad bulb, unhooked it from the plug, took the new bulb out of the box (it was an Osram), plugged it back into the plug wire, and stuck it back in the housing, turning 1/4 turn clockwise and locking it in. The whole procedure (including buying the bulb) took 5 minutes.
    Do not take the car apart to take out the housing. And definitely do not give the stealer/dealer any money to change that bulb.

      Was it the driver side? Read Audi switched from hydraulic to electric power steering in 2012, so that could explain why it is possible to easily replace since the reservoir is not in the way.

      Ouch. Have used $24 ebay HID bulbs with stock ballasts for testing and was surprised that they worked great. Likely will not last as long as name brand bulbs though.
