Hmm, this is certainly the most useful video about this system on youtube so far. And its the first one that shows a use case where it can do something better then DJI. This Whoop Board is really interesting.
Thank you. I appreciate the compliment. The two options others that have come up with that I think is also interesting and maybe something that could be done in short order is to separate OSD from the recording, or have the ability to disable it and another to add onboard recording to have the best possible recording.

Its Awesome you got one! Thanks to Dumbthumbs I think it looks good and I'm sure more tweaks will be done over time. Plus more cameras will come out. The biggest thing is the whoop board!😀 Good job Nick
Nice review. I like the “it is another product” approach (I.e. in comparison to DJI). I am delighted to see more competition in the hd-fpv world. Thanks!
Gotta be honest Nick, I'm not too sure about this. When I first started seeing footage of it, I was really impressed initially. But the more footage I see, the less impressed I am. It does look better than anolog, but honestly not by that much. It seems to do better indoors than outside, likely the camera. I know, I know, I need to see it in the goggles to really get a feel for it. But in all fairness, that's not needed for the DJI footage that's out there, it all looks good, goggles or youtube. I do like that we're getting away from analog though, and I think this is a great option for whoop and toothpick pilots. For larger quads or a more polished experience, well, we know what folks should get for that, lol ;)
Hey brother💪💪👊👊 I think same line of thought. But never had fataharks..Box to DJI for me. But when used analog adapter on DJI I personally thought this isn't bad... allot better than box. So for cost.. I think great option looks like can see scraggle? If so then that's big.. tree cruises are fun! Range check needed ??
Sure, I don't think it has that desired GoPro esq look to it and I do think its not as likely to get those flying primarily 5inch quads. I wonder how it would look at 4:3, which could be coming sometime soon....or that is the word on the street. I am hopefull with time we see camera improvements as well as firmware improvements. The tighter "competition" comes the tougher the decision but better for everyone using one system or another.
Totally agree. I was initially impressed, some footages are really good (some more than others) but... 1) it's better than analog, but no SO MUCH. 2) DJI, from what I saw on YT, is on another planet. Still, it is remarkable that we can have a digital fpv system on a 75mm 2s whoop.
I know what you mean, but honestly I had the same feeling with the DJI system. Much better than analogue, but I didn't have that wow amazing feeling like you see in some YT videos.
I'm glad this is out, it's definitely gonna be my X-mas present to myself! DJI's image quality is superior, but I can stick this on my existing goggles, stick the board in my Armattan Tadpole, and Bob's yer uncle, as Andy would say..! Then, with the same goggles, I can easily fly all my analog whoops. Yay! Plus, I just feel good supporting a company that's contributed massively to this hobby's very existence from the beginning, and supported it and the community for years, in numerous ways. No, still no power button (grrr), but their products are good and their customer service is second to none!
I appreciate how fair you are or maybe realistic your reviews are. Feel like your giving us all the info you have so we know what's going on but it's fair to the companies your reviewing. And if something is not so good you let us know.
Thank you. Its rare I am sold on something. I can enjoy it and it not be my favorite quad or component. I prefer for the videos to be fun and informative. I might not have all the technical details, but share my experience.
I didn't expect this, I thought that Shark Byte was dead, but it's definitely a step forward for micro's and whoops. That inside flight video of Man Cave Hobbies looked really good. Bu I'll wait for the final version and some good camera options.
Well Mr. Nick Burns, you Sir once again have shown me that you know how to make an even handed and fair review and why I watch and buy from your channel. Is the system perfect? Nope none are. Will it hopefully get better over time? Yup I'm very happy this is on your channel as I really don't like watching my videos and invite other's opinions in a fair non bias way. Once again great job and much respect to you
This is the first time I've seen shark bite with indoor video. It really shows how good this system can be. The limiting factor is definitely the camera because outdoors it looks like garbage.
looking forward to this .. and now I have seen it from an HONEST reviewer im sold thank you nick what a great greta review and delighted for the fat shark lads who stuck with the program and made this happen .. brilliant video performance and can only get better over time .. so so happy with this and this is so early in the progress .. thanks a lot nick .. your video could of easily passed for DJI IMHO.. things are looking great for us at FPV .and @nick burns for president :}
Excellent review as always. I feel like now interested any person might be in this depends on what they fly (size). As someone who doesn't get many wind-free days and not a big enough house to actually fly in, I personally stick to 3 inch and bigger (at least for now). As in regards to price, I'm kinda torn. I think the price is alright for someone who already owns a decent pair of goggles, however if you do not the price is going to end up similar to DJI as for initial buy, anyway. Please do correct me if I'm wrong. In my current situation (and as someone who already owns DJI and my old goggles are the ev800D's) I am happy I picked DJI. That said, I am looking forward to Orqa's open-source digital FPV system too.
For freestyle pilots who doesn't want to mess with DJI by various reasons, SharkByte seems worth to try. Especially ones who have HD resolution googles with OLED and LCOS screens and HDMI input should achieve noticeably good results. You actually convinced me to try SharkByte too. Would like to try that HD whoop build :)
I'm still really happy flying with my fxt viper goggles, and the option to integrate through hdmi input has me interested. For that matter, being able to sit down in certain environments with a laptop to use as your flying interface that friends could watch along with you while you fly could be fun. I'm definitely glad to see the whoop style board as an option for the vtx. I could see 3 & 4" builds really taking advantage of that.
Great video Nick! Thanks. I’m a DJI fanboy but this looks pretty sweet! Yep, digital whoopin’ is what I am most interested in too! Keeping my Fatsharks for now. DJI & happymodel collab is my dream...
So many negative videos on the interwebs about this system. Glad you showed some positives. You do have a pleasant down to earth speaking tone . You just earned a sub, Keep up the solid content!
I have been surprised to read on RCGroups how quickly Carl of Divimath has been making software adjustments. We shall see what comes soon enough...or at least I hope soon.
Great video again nick! It will be fairly interesting when there are more camera options. Maybe a great way to step up to HD even I just ordered some ev300o googles. Looking forward to see more ...
The system is amazing! The picture quality and almost flawless transmission and reception! I’m going to be a late buyer but I will be after winter👍 the flexibility of any compatible goggles and an open source camera incentive for innovation!
Ah I see you have a few videos on your channel. Do you have any of the 75mm with the dvr of the vista? Maybe in your shop? If you do I would like to see it. Thank you
@@NickBurnsFPV the only ones I have are currently posted on my same channel. Did you see those ? I’m currently buying a house so less flying but I’m getting my 107 right after and many more vids to come.
I think the beginning of the end of analog was in fpv terms eons ago ( 12 -18 months). Committed $$ already to DJI so I will wait for DJI/Caddx to a make something smaller. BTW: Looks good.
Good video Nick, you've changed my opinion on the shark bite system for the most part, if this is something I'll have or want too put across my fleet of micro's the price may have to adjust a bit first. Other than that, great video as usual my friend very informative!!👍👍👍
I think this is a huge huge win! The only question I have is if I should wait to buy a new set of Fat shark goggles with an internal shark-byte receiver module. I have to think that is coming. I am in the market for new goggles but now I'm not sure if I should buy or wait.
I have no knowledge or have heard about a new smaller module. I have heard the current module is final hardware but may see a firmware update. My opinion is it might be a year before we see a new shark byte VRx.
Deffs be sticking to analog for whoop and my racing quads. This really does appeal but like DJI will always be to expensive for me. I sold my HDO2 to pay bills :(, so just using a screen that sits in my lap now to race and fun fly hahaha. I'm not worried as these are as just toys and I'm still having fun, few laughs at the race this morning but I still kept pace with my little screen lol
Budget is important as well. We can often get lost in the "new shiny thing" gets us into financial trouble. Hopefully one day finances allow you to buy the "new shiny thing" you want.
@@NickBurnsFPV yeah mate, just go family in Philippines getting flooded. Had to send financial help to them ASAP, I'm sure I will. I'm always content with what I have and I can still fly so I'm a happy man still hahaha
@@NickBurnsFPV Yeah mate I'llalways put helping my family and friends over my own entertainment. Just hope ot doesn't get worse over there :/. Cheers mate, hope you enjoy digital micros now and into the future :). Fingers crossed it just gets better and better from here for the system.
Thanks for this fair review. ! I hope sharkbyte could be support to be better every day. It’s an impressive VTX/VRX and Cam HD system for FPV. I waited to fight against DJI. Or maybe The ORQA HD module beeing better.
I feel like the dji definitely has an edge on image quality (hopefully new cameras And firmwares will help), but the fact that the fatshark digital can fit in a 75mm on the first iteration is pretty encouraging. Hopefully subsequent versions will be even smaller since I feel like the dji isn't particularly viable for fun flying sub 2.5"-3".
In a way, or the back of my mind, I feel like FatShark had to get something out before much more of the market moved into the DJI garden. I don't think this was hurried, but I also feel like we will see firmware changes/improvements very soon.
Even with the slight improvement this makes to video quality and breakup, I feel it improves our flying confidence exponentially. In terms of an investment, it seems like the VRX module is pretty well polished at this price point assuming one already owns a decent pair of analog goggles. The primary focus next would hopefully be camera and VTX improvements (quality/weight/size/costs) assuming FS collaborates with other manufacturers.
I would agree with your assessment. I wouldn't be surprised if we see some big leaps in camera development soon. The camera companies have to see that future business, be it 1 year or more, will be in digital fpv.
Thanks, Nick for the review. I fly whoops and micros so seeing the #12 board and how it looked in your whoop was great. I like Shark Byte in the fact that it interfaces with analog googles. I think this is just their first steps to get this out and expect it will just get better as time goes on. The video on DJI is better but I really hate the feel of the clunky DJI googles. I have a smaller head so no matter how tight I seem to get the straps (which I don't like either), the googles always flops down over my eyes. That's just me though.
I have a similar issue with DJI goggles, but mine is in grabbing the bulky goggles and battery and cord that I need to fly. With this is analog I just put it on my head and grad the radio and quad, out the door. In short, I feel there is more "prep" in DJI flight.
@@NickBurnsFPV For sure, because as it stands the runcam outdoors looks like something you've asked me politely not to describe in your comments section.
I think you’ve found a good use for this on whoops, but I’m already into DJI with a super micro 3” TorqueFPV Hornet and this can’t compare in terms of range or quality. Gotta believe they’ll get it even smaller soon. Yes this is cheaper and competition is good. Great review.
I'm happy to see an alternative to DJI, and I think the picture quality looks fairly similar to that of the Nebula. The part of the Shark Byte I think should be significantly improved is the snow-like pixelization when the signal gets low. I'd love to see better algorithms for what actually gets output to the display when there is picture data missing. Maybe it doesn't have the processing power to do it, but if data is missing from a certain pixel, why not take the data from adjacent pixels and copy it into the missing portions? Kind of like the video upscaling functionality of a lot of TVs. Or at the very least.... If data is missing, don't have the default pixel color be bright white. Make it black, or dark gray, or any other color that isn't a super bright beacon of failed reception!
I would not be surprised if we see a change similar to what your thinking. My understanding is the VRx hardware is final but software is moving forward with changes on both the VRx and VTx.
If DJI could manufacture a whoop board, it would be game over for Shark Byte, but as it is, i quite like the thought of an add on onto your goggles, it's defiantly a step in the right direction.
competition is good. Maybe DJI will have a response, I suspect there is some portion of the fpv market not going DJI for one reason or another, leaving the door open for Fat Shark.
glad to see digital on a micro. I've seen that DJI goes further but I much prefer one latency of the sharkbyte. now if only they will make a box goggle set with hdmi input for my glasses i'll be a customer (currently FS Scout owner)
I'm hoping it will work with ftx vipers. I love mine, and they are excellent for glasses. Unfortunately they are only 480p, though viper could make an upgraded screen. Eachine goggles v2 fit some glasses and I think they are 1080. Both goggles have hdmi in
Thanks for this review. I've only ever flown DJI and haven't been interested in analog. I really feel like I'm missing out on being able to fly tiny drones in and around the house though. I'm very impressed with the quality of the video you've shown. It's better than my P16 with the nebula camera. I'll wait a while but I'm seriously interested in Shark Byte with Whoops.
Excellent review Nick as all ways, just got DJI which is great but would be amazing if they introduced a whoop size board like fatshark, I live in hope. Have a great day. All the best David.
I am quite biased about it. I really like the look of the footage inside. Clear, crisp,... but outside it doenst look as sharp as i wished it to be. But it is whoop-capable, so... let's see how it developes. Thanks for your time and review!
I was looking forward to this when I found out about the whoop board because I fly mainly whoops and toothpicks. Now the price has increased from the $250.00. I will be giving this a miss. If I didn't have the hdo2 goggles this would cost $849.96 with one whoop board, one cam and two aerials. I paid $689.64 for the dji hd with two air units and the goggles. Thanks you for all you do. Keep up the good work and keep safe.
a re-investment is a rough proposition. Maybe, we will see holiday sales soon. Might not be enough for a re-investment, but helps keep some $$ in pockets if the product is desired.
That is actually better than I expected, I'm a DJI user but it sure looks like Fatshark has the whoop market wrapped up. It's just a shame they bake the osd into the video, with the DJI it's there when you fly but it's not baked in the recording, I prefer that, I hope they add that as an option as on I think one of Bardwells videos you could still see the osd even though the video signal had gone bad, suggesting that the osd is being baked in on the headset and not at the quad side.
I wonder what the challenge of separating OSD data from video data is? I do appreciate the OSD does look and record more natively, especially useful for me do micro reviews, OSD is a key element to judging performance.

Much better than analogue, but I didn't have that wow amazing feeling like you see in some YT videos.
he cant even go half around his house
Digital on a whoop!! 😳😳🤯 that was exciting
Amazing. HD on whoops and it can only get better from here.
Everyone: The end of analog FPV
Me, just starting FPV: Investing into analog FPV gear such as the new Sky04x
I think shark byte will work with those goggles
There are already videos of people using the sky04x and Shark byte, you're good bro! Mine are in the Mail and on their way. Can't wait :)
Same, I am just getting into the hobby but I went the DJI > Dijidapter route. Gonna fly some analogs before I get into the expensive digital ones.
@@blackwater7183 definitely cheaper to crash and replace analog gear haha
SB works really well on sky04x, coming from personal experience
Yours is the review we've been waiting for!
Once again great job and much respect to you
Thank you, and thank you for alerting me to this development and advocating for the channel. Much appreciated!🔥
This is the first time I've seen shark bite with indoor video. It really shows how good this system can be. The limiting factor is definitely the camera because outdoors it looks like garbage.
I am hopeful we will see new cameras shortly, as to how quickly they will come to the channel idk.
looking forward to this .. and now I have seen it from an HONEST reviewer im sold thank you nick what a great greta review and delighted for the fat shark lads who stuck with the program and made this happen .. brilliant video performance and can only get better over time .. so so happy with this and this is so early in the progress .. thanks a lot nick .. your video could of easily passed for DJI IMHO.. things are looking great for us at FPV .and @nick burns for president :}
Glad you enjoyed the video. I don't have any political aspirations 😂
Looks like a win for whoops. I think I'll wait for more camera options before pulling the trigger on this. Great review 👏
Yea I want to ask foxeer about their digital. A Hebrew shark byte video had it
Yeah, OSD in all shark byte videos is cristal clear, but the whole image not perfect. I think better cameras can improve situation significantly!
HD making its way to whoops is really exciting. Looking forward to the future.
You're such a nice guy, I really appreciate this channel, Thank you for you work!
Thank you. I appreciate you taking some time from your day to watch and comment. Have a great weekend. Hopefully weather is good for your flights.
I like the separate module because I always put the separate module on the car roof while I pilot from sitting on my driver seat for quick get-away.
Lol that’s funny. It does make us more spy like being in the car
Thank you, I appreciate it.
Shark Byte is looking really good indoors!
The video I needed to see from you.
Wow! Wow!
Great video! This seems perfect for micros and there is the possibility that it may improve.
Dude, thanks for posting! Wow, colorful word, OMG, colorful word - this is going to go so well with my other toys.
Well done Nick👍
The system is amazing! The picture quality and almost flawless transmission and reception! I’m going to be a late buyer but I will be after winter👍 the flexibility of any compatible goggles and an open source camera incentive for innovation!
I hope we see even more developments coming soon.
I’m flying this 75mm with the crazybee board and naked vista nebula 52 g w/o battery . Man she fly’s solid and indoors for 5 mins on 500 mah 2/3s
@@NoiseBoysGarage The videos I was looking at all seem to be shot with insta360go.
I think fatshark is goin in the right direction
I think the beginning of the end of analog was in fpv terms eons ago ( 12 -18 months). Committed $$ already to DJI so I will wait for DJI/Caddx to a make something smaller. BTW: Looks good.
I really like the small size of the vtx!
Good video Nick, you've changed my opinion on the shark bite system for the most part, if this is something I'll have or want too put across my fleet of micro's the price may have to adjust a bit first. Other than that, great video as usual my friend very informative!!👍👍👍
Looks like a go-pro in comparison to the analog cam. Definitely gonna look into this once the tech gets cheaper.
Great review 👍🏻....looking forward to its development for those of us who love flying micros & whoops. Thank you 🙏
I think this is a huge huge win!
I think it looks quite good. And it fits in a micro!
bravo.
really refreshing philosophy. they ARE toys, and it is fun..... regarding cursing, you sold your argument very well.
@@slowentropy4531 Its so good of you to help family. Nice to be able to help and be able to help others. We are paid with good feelings!
I love this guy
It looks so much better indoors than outside.
Yes, we need to see more cameras. Possibly a befit of this system is open camera development.
@@NickBurnsFPV For sure, because as it stands the runcam outdoors looks like something you've asked me politely not to describe in your comments section.
@@flaparoundfpv8632 lol, gotcha
I'm excited to see what Orca's HD system will look like.
They're making one? Very interesting! Is it a module?
Croatian HD go go go!
@@cinialvespow1054 I'm not sure but i assume so. They say it will be compatible with existing analog goggles so assume so.
@@nikfpv3456 It will probably be awesome, but I'd be shocked if it was released in 2021.
How wonderfull 😍 great news and great review.
Great work as always Nick.
Great review, Been waiting for Fatshark to come out with this !! very exciting !!!!
DJI is very good, but not for me......
Both goggles have hdmi in
Uff! Next Level🤩🔥💯
You fly awesome!
Your house is beatiful too!
Thank you. Just like flying we continue to improve the house over the years.
Always appreciate your perspective.
Excellent review Nick as all ways, just got DJI which is great but would be amazing if they introduced a whoop size board like fatshark, I live in hope. Have a great day. All the best David.
competition could promote a move in that direction.
I would probably remove the DVR inside the fatsharks HDO2s and put most of this system inside with only the antennas outside.. Looks GREAT though
I am quite biased about it. I really like the look of the footage inside. Clear, crisp,... but outside it doenst look as sharp as i wished it to be. But it is whoop-capable, so... let's see how it developes. Thanks for your time and review!
I don't see your bias in the comment? In that regard your perspective is perfectly reasonable.
thank you for a very fair report of your experience.
I value your experience
Thank you
1st review I have seen with the whoop board.... Wasn't super interested till now, not 100% there yet though...
Hey Nick I really like that built. 👍👍👍👍👍
nice job Nick.
That's a really good looking camera
Nice video squire as usual
