    This is great. Translating song lyrics is the hardest part of any language that exists. Having the opportunity to see the translation coming from a native speaker is a priceless learning experience.
    You sing very well, you should sing more! :)

      I love Ken Takakura too! Have you watched "Railroad Man"? That movie made me cry so much. It's wonderful that you are going to Japan to study! I'm sure you'll enjoy it so much. :)

    Oh, so this is a graduation song just like Naotaro Moriyama's "Sakura". ... Now I'm kind of curious about which one is more common in graduation ceremonies. (I love Sakura, especially when the songwriter himself sings it. He and his mother are both fairly unknown in the western world and deserve more recognition.)
    ...You sound amazingly beautiful. I think I could almost fall asleep listening to this.

    • @YukoSensei
      @YukoSensei  7 років тому +1

      DeltaSilver88-san,
      Compared to this one, Hotaru no Hikari, "Sakura" by Naotaro Moriyama is fairly new so I think this one is still more common for many ceremonies in Japan. For the New Year's Eve, singing "Hotaru no Hikari" definitely is the tradition. I too love both Naotaro and his mother, Ryoko Moriyama. They are both great singers!
      Thank you for your kind comment. I'm glad you enjoyed my singing. :)

      How interesting; this song shares a tune with "Auld Lang Syne" (Scots language, meaning something like "long long ago" or "days gone by"), which is traditionally sung or played in the west when observing the new year. Common threads like this have always been really fascinating to me! At the same time, "Hotaru no Hikari" seems to be the more versatile of the two, as "Auld Lang Syne" only really seems to be associated with the new year tradition and is otherwise seldom heard.

    But that is only the 1st stanza. There are 4 stanzas.
    The last 2 stanzas are rarely sung today because the lyrics reflect the sentiment of Imperial Japan's militaristic past.
