Steel viper. The clan that did more damage to the clans than Comstar and second Star League combined.
I know it's a niche hobby, but I can't believe you guys haven't gotten more than 5K subscribers yet. There's no-one else that's putting out this quality of content.

I guess it's hard to understand people not sharing our enthusiasm! Always happy to put a "new" mech on my radar. Although having read up on it now, I'd be interested to see how the Clan mech stacks up against Comstar's "Battle Cobra at Home" Inner Sphere version.

Totally agree. Then again, forces of the "algorithm" are fickle and inconsistent. It's a niche market too.
It's one of those things that could blow up pretty quick- I've seen it before.
I'm no expert with this stuff, but if I may make make suggestion: maybe a youtube short or a video comparing BT to some other popular properties.
I know it's not necessarily your bailiwick, and I *definitely* prefer the kind of content you are making, but sometimes just one video that gets a lot of play is all you need.
Edit: to be clear, I'm not saying I'd like you to change. Just that depending on your priorities... people eat up stuff like a top 10 list and comparisons.

One of the better medium Omnis in Clan space. Tough, cheap, mostly energy weapons based, and easily built. People ignore it because they get distracted by other Clan Omnis. A mixed star of Battle Cobras and Crossbows is a pretty nasty force to face.

This is one of favorite parts of Battletech. There is someone out there looking at a Yeoman and thinking... 'magnificence'...
Nearly every mech is someone's favorite, and there is a mech you will probably really like that you don't know about yet.

A very nice mech that doesn't get the same rep as Timberwolves and Stormcrows.

Clan Mech with a standard engine! Would be interesting to see how it stacks up against a clan 40-ton Omni with an XL like the Arctic Wolf
Wanted to revisit an old vid and tip you off on a unit that is not well hidden in player cycles. The Lancelot (C) with 4/5 BV of 1960.
Some other hidden gems. Wraith and Black Python. If and when the review for the Wraith comes up. Understand that mech was banned from many games.
*sees Wave 2 in the title, gets excited* Frightening little mech. My play group is constantly debating the merits of (clan versions of course) ER LLas vs ER PPC vs Large Pulse. Your analysis here bears out my usual argument in favor of large pulse: they are far superior to the others in the hands of low skill pilots
Yah the ROI on points is nuts, and 20 hexes is more than enough range imo unless you are playing with literally no cover 😁
The Prime and the A are nice configs. If I was a Steel Viper Pilot, I probably wouldn't run any of the others.
the battle cobra first appeared in the MW2ed RPG adventure Bloodright I didnt like it then because all the weapons were in the arms and no boing (JJs) I like it a bit better now

Always wondered what that goofy looking mech was and apparently it's great. Going to hunt myself one down.... so prepare yourself... bringing it to our next bout.

The Battle Cobra seems to have fallen off the same ugly tree the Phantom and Pouncer fell from. All of them are 40 ton Clan Omnimechs, with pretty good stats and performance, but overlooked for their terrible aesthetics. The kickstarter at least improves the looks of the Battle Cobra a bit. The Battle Cobra with its decent speed and survivability, and all arm-mounted weaponry makes a pretty good Elemental carrier as well. It also synergizes quite well with the other Steel Viper designed Omnimech, the Crossbow.
One interesting piece of lore is that due to the large number of Battle Cobras left behind by the Vipers on Tukayyid and the Battle Cobra's standard engine, Comstar was able to build an Inner Sphere copy, which they continued to build until the end of the Jihad.

And yes! Someone mentioned the CS version to me in Discord tonight…. Sadly it has IS pulse lasers 🤮 so no where near the killer as its clan cousin.
@@DeathfromAboveWargaming With the fixed C3i on the CS version the IS pulse lasers aren't nearly as big a disadvantage since you'd probably want it sitting about 7 hexes away from a target spotting for the rest of the Level II anyway. There's the A or C if you want it to do nothing but spot for the C3i Level II, or there's the D with quad Light PPCs and a targeting computer to get you as close to the Clan Prime version's performance as a pure IS tech Mech is likely to get you.

The inner sphere has made copies of this mech.
My clan burrok list is 2 battlecobras, 1 a and 1 prime and a lancelot C (fits nicely in 5k bv with all 4/5 pilots), I am the person who loves this mech.

Built a steel vipers star, but never picked one of these up. Its a tough little mech and shows off the viper love of pulse lasers. Pulse lasers and LRM's seem to be their thing.

@@DeathfromAboveWargaming Dare I say in classic probably the biggest tech gap between the IS and clans. being able to fire LRM's point blank is just cruel. Especially with mechs like the cross bow and scylla.
Yah its a great point - and just is nuts. Esp when you are talking a 6(!!) hex min range for IS LRMs.
Got to say I've never given this mech a really close look because aesthetically it was just too weird looking for me. Really surprised with the analytics on this one. Since I've gotten back into Battletech and learned a bit more about clan lore, the design makes more sense now of course. Totem mechs....oh you silly clansmen you. That 40-50 ton range is the sweet spot for me personally, and now that I think about it, this mech is very similar to the custom mechs I designed when I was in high school (using clan tech of course). My friends were usually pretty impressed with how well I would do in games running these medium mechs. I guess I was just ahead of my time and now it is confirmed by Battlelytics. Haha! Not bad! A regular fusion engine with energy weapons only? The speed and armor coverage on this little guy are pretty impressive for a 40-tonner. I can totally see this as a quick flanker, eliminating light mechs and vehicles on the way to it's target and then blazing away with that accurate fire. I can also comfortably say you don't have to put a stellar gunner behind the controls to make it effective. I'd never even considered this before, but it's definitely something I'd field if I was playing a Clan force.
Agreed, and with a crappier pilot they are even more affordable!
@@DeathfromAboveWargaming Oh, and you're absolutely right, the IS ERLL has a range of 19 hexes, so the Clan Large Pulse is even more impressive!

One of my favourite clan mechs. Replace the 2 small pulse lasers with er small lasers and add an other dhs. Run and fire both large pulse lasers = 22 heat = 11 dhs. Run and gun with no heat problems.
I've loved this thing since I first saw the artwork in the back of one of the jade falcon books where they were fighting the steel vipers when I was a kid. Its those weird looking mechs that become the most memorable and adorable in their own way.
I think this one is the Clan's Crab - tough energy based medium, you can't go wrong with that.

Love these videos but would love to see maybe a follow up or maybe a little bit at the end where you offer what you would do to maybe get a better result from the mech.
I always loved the Battle Cobra - such a unique looking mech, and a very simple, but effective loadout. Makes me even more angry about what happened to Steel Vipers, and Blood Spirits (both users of the Battle Cobra), leaving only Cloud Cobra as battle cobra users.
The best part about this Mech is not having an XL engine means it's fairly cheap in the C bill department too.

The small pulses are for infantry clearing.
I'd like to see how this matches up to the somewhat-similar Omni the Jade Falcons dreamt up after Tukayyid, the Cougar. 5 tons difference, with the lighter mech being rather less survivable with a bit less armour and a smaller XL engine making it slower, but with more long-range firepower in the paired LRM 10s over the small pulses

Ah, yes. Clan Steel Viper's Adder. Lower tech and lower punch on a heavier chassis. The B configuration tries to live up to the designs of Clan Star Adder, but it does not.
I’m not so sure those LPLs are worse than er PPCs point-for-point!
We used this in a mission where IS caught clan young training in 2 of these with thor lead mech....these things with bad pilots decimated the IS always loved it since then :-)
Not surprised!! The clan LPLas are just nuts… I swear the range was a typo and they let it stick for 25 years haha

Man, this thing looks like something I would have designed back in my salad days of BT. Agile, efficient, and solidly durable for its tonnage. Love those Clan LPL's; likely my favorite Clan weapon of all time. I'm not sold on the SPL's, but swapping them for a pair of ER Mediums (or even 4 ER Smalls for knife-fighting range) would make me much happier.
Agree 1000% on the SPLas (and the clan LPLas best things ever)

@@rburt3 ER LPL's are an interesting thought--I actually do prefer them to Clan ER PPC's under some circumstances--but overall I just feel they're not quite as good most of the time. 3 extra heat for 3 more hexes of range is a mediocre tradeoff most of the time.
