from a person who grew up in Fairfax from pre-k to senior year, there are things to do in Fairfax you just have to know what you are looking for. second, if you like the city feel but dont like being in traffic all the time fairfax is good because its usually just a 30 min metro ride into DC if you want to go to museums or art exhibits or clubs, so in my opinion its better that way since you dont get all of the congestion from people trying to go to the museums and instead just get the city vibe. (also the metro is pretty safe you just have to be vigalent and avoid the people who look like bad news
I just got in today with a distinction scholarship and in the honors college! I'm really excited, it wasn't my top choice but it offered the most scholarships so I'm trying to get to know it!
@@amarat8058 I like the honors college because the gen ed courses we have differ from the greater Mason University. They have smaller class sizes, and then there are reserved sections of some courses specifically for Honors Students. We also get priority registration, so chances are the schedule you want will be the schedule you get, except for some honors classes which are really popular so they fill up fast. If you really enjoy research, there are endless opportunities for that in the Honors College as well. Just a great feature of GMU overall!
Class of 2010 here, and I was a commuter. Y'all have it good food-wise nowadays. We really just had the Rathskeller and SUBII back then. I wish the best of luck to you all! GO PATRIOTS!
Mason was horrible in my opinion. Luckily I was over 21 and had a car when I transferred. 1 the campus literally dies during the breaks so kids who stay on campus has no access anything like food or activities. 2 they put no effort into the social events. 3 the kids in NOVA are out of touch with reality (snobby rich kids) . 4 it is literally a go to class and leave enviroment 5 Mason police harass you for anything 6 the quality of education is just not there if it isn’t engineering or CS
Literally all my friends I made went to schools in dc or Maryland when I went there. There is really a negative social cloud that hangs over that college in my opinion
Im only a junior in high school but I’ve been very interested in gmu. With the study abroad, I’m not really sure how it works but are you required the learn the language for the country you go to?
Hey, I'm a student at GMU who is going to study abroad for the Fall semester 2020! Many aspects of the study abroad destinations depend on what program you are applying to and where you are going. I am going to the Mason Korea, the university based in Songdo, Korea. Classes are taught in English, so I don't need to learn Korean (but it absolutly helps to know the language you are going to for convenience). Some other locations are not taught in English (like some study aborads to Spain, which are only taught in Spanish).
Hi, I worked in the study abroad office at GMU officially called the GEO office. I suggest going to the study abroad website at masonabroad.gmu.edu to check out the different programs. On the online brochures you can see what language the programs are offered in and the majors that are offered there. The only thing is since the pandemic the summer programs were cancelled this year. Going forward I'm not sure if the office will go forward with fall and spring 2021 programs. I suggest calling the office to ask more detailed questions or sending them an email. Also, there are many scholarships you can apply to on the website when you start your application. I studied abroad in South Korea at Mason Korea for 2 semesters and Galway Ireland for a summer and the grant money I received covered a lot of expenses.
I am warning EVERYONE who attends to be aware of the fact that if you have a weakness in analyzing literature after English 101, you really need to fix it.
just applied to mason, wanted to know about the accommodation, is it cheaper to live on campus or is there any off campus apartment i can rent with roommates
I'm about to finish my junior year, but GMU sent me mail two times to go their Engineering summer course (I forget what it is called but it's $5000) and now they are asking me to consider a Journalism and Media Conference in Washington DC. I don't think this school is for me but are these experiences even worth the money?
I think I've seen you at Einstein's before; I'm in there every day too haha. Too bad they don't accept the Einstein app there (with all the rewards/free food & drinks).
Im debating btwn Va tech and GMU. Location and school speaking, GMU is better for my major. But im also asian so i cant survive without asian food and Va tech dining just wins over the campus life. So im so conflicted rn.
@@necatiunsal9572 I ended up choosing GMU and started my first semester. Overall it's great but I still complain about the food alot since they made me get a unlimited meal plan so i usually eat at the dining halls. The areas around GMU are great but also very expensive
I'm considering to go to this school but I was wondering if I could change my major from History, which i got accepted in, to computer science. Is that possible?
Is there any problem with the gmu application portal. I am trying to submit my application but it gives me an error. I tried numerous method like changing browser, using an incognito window, changed password, log out and log in again but nothing changed. Admission office didn't reply to my mail. Do you have any idea?
Hey I'm Joy. Recently I've been thinking to move in USA for study. do George mason University have STEM subject in BUSINESS background? Thank you in Advance
When it comes to the topic of housing, you say that the campus caters to underclass men. If that's the case, would the same be said for transfer students coming from community college?
To be honest, I don’t know much about the transfer housing situation. I’m pretty sure mason is really good about housing when it comes to transfer students! I would definitely check the housing website to make sure/get more info
It's not considered a 'top school' but depending on your major, for its location and job opportunities in the D.C. area, you'll get a lot of value for your money.

which residential buildings would you recommend for freshmen housing?
Liberty is probably the nicest freshman building! I lived in the commons my freshman year and I really liked it.
Nick Carr I can’t believe liberty is freshman housing now. It was considered like the most elite place to live back in 2008-2009
Nick Carr I lived in the commons too. I was in Carroll. It was ancient back then.
How long does it take you to get to DC with the shuttle and metro?
I’d say around 45 mins to an hour! It’s pretty quick
Hey even my majoring at GMU
I'm considering to go to this school but I was wondering if I could change my major from History, which i got accepted in, to computer science. Is that possible?
I'm pretty sure you can! But I'd make sure to talk to an Academic Advisor

So i really want to go to Mason, but I’m 2 hours a way so I won’t know anyone so I want to do Greek life. So is Greek life basically dead(Parties)?

Greek life is not dead I can tell you that with certainty

Far from prestigious lol. Usually peoples' last choice if they're not accepted to other universities.
I’m going to be an incoming freshman in the fall, do you have any tips ?
Probably my biggest tip is to get involved early! Joining organizations on campus is a great way to meet friends and be connected to the University
