    DASH - I really love your videos, and to answer your question at the end: "yes!" We need more videos about the 'inner game' (psychology / inner journey) of producing music. With the exception of recent videos from Mr RedRollo and Venus Theory, there are very few Producer/Content Creators out there helping people get unstuck not simply re writers block, but in terms of internal doubts, internal pressure, self-criticism, or a massive striving but difficulty when it comes to the reality of writing music (which can suck and be really painful, or which can destroy creativity and patience and peace of mind, all together). I am constantly on the hunt for ways to make this more joyous and/or to not feel so 'alone'. I would love to hear from your heart ♥ how you tackle the more difficult days (ie 'real talk' kinda stuff). Else, you just make it look easy always, and I know it isn't like that (for so many of us)!

    Thanks! A nice topic indeed. One more tip I would recommend that I found myself recently being stuck. Not to unite two projects but to split one into two instead :) I was making a track and did a number of overdubs including effects, fms and melodic stuff. Then I really stuck trying to find which one was matching to each other best, etc. And two main melodic themes were not really fitting together even being in one C Arabic scale. So I realised I could make two versions of a track and basically a second track was born very quickly 😅 Then you just need to sort it out which overdubs fit better to what version etc

    Met you at origin afew years ago , I do nothing all day so when I get a chance i open fl studio and just try creating something even when im not In the mood. This video and you have helped me want to focus my energy into my sound. Funny at the end of the video. On Tuesday this past week I opened my DAW when i didn't feel inspired and I was shocked what i was able to achieve when i had the intention to create while not feeling inspired. Thanks for all the tips I will apply them

    I do this almost every time when starting to drag a few tracks over into the next project. I feel that helps to overcome that blank canvas thing and kind of glues your stuff together. Actually, you inspired me to make a video & share another technique to get inspired.

      I also got this list, but not many unfinished projects but it also helps to organise how many tracks you have in which key. I got two columns one if the key, and the other one how good the track is e.g. #1,2... in the end I can easily see in which keys I will produce the next project. That way I always got recent/good tracks in any key.

    I'm stuck on a track for 3 weeks because I need to learn about transitions/risers/drops better. I watched Armin's masterclass to learn more about this, then I found out ( from his masterclass ) that he hires a guy to do this for him 🤣

    • @Spithonio
      @Spithonio Рік тому

      because i was struggling like this for years,there's always gonna be something you're not yet that good at,finish the track,or not,start another one and your risers are gonna be 1% better.then start another and your transitions are gonna be 1% -the least better.Then start another one and you have what you had plus 1% better at drops.Guess what happens after 100 (almost finished if possible) tunes.

    • @traveler263
      @traveler263 Рік тому +1

      @@Spithonio lol, your comment is spot on, just that I'm totally in love with the idea for my third track, and refuse to "just finish it" and move on for experience 🤣 I've already finished a 4th I started after it, and maybe I'll finish many others, but this one, I want it to be impecable so can't wait for 100 :D

    • @raavanhitech
      @raavanhitech Рік тому +1

      @@traveler263 a compliment that I got from a senior producer was that it's great you just finish tracks to start new ones. To then add what you have learned in your previous tracks. I was exactly where you are about 2 years ago. With consistency it gets a lot better. So maybe just try starting another project side by side if you don't want to let that one go 100%

    • @Spithonio
      @Spithonio Рік тому

      @@traveler263 it had to be over 15 years of making music to realize that best way to finish a tune when you get stuck is to start another project. Back in the day I needed 4-6 months per track which is ridiculous, now I have a sketch of a tune complete in 2 days and then several hours to have fun, get my balls busted with mixing issues, apply the tutorials I see from Dash and tune by tune,day by day you’re gonna be farting risers and drops at some point, your hands will do themselves,like you’re learning how to play the guitar. Your fingers play the song themselves from some point on.

    the more you can do, the more you have to spend time chosing. The simplest, the more focus for me. So that's why I leave Bitwig and now i'm with Fl studio for the simplicity of the pattern view.

    Personally, to never have the problem of being stuck on multiple tracks I just focus on 1. And if I feel tired of listening to the same thing over and over at the end stages of the track I start the knb and flow of a new track but not leads. Just how the the bass starts how hats kick in how the first drop will be. If I want the bass change to be abrubt. And after a long day making music,making a new bass that's sounds really dark just makes my day

    For the stocktake part, the problem is having different progressions or rhythms in them, sometimes everything is cool on their own. Plus, the genres might need to be specified. A bass is not really the same between a dubstep and a psytrance track, which is a bit unfortunate, unless you let your mind drive you into making a mix of those (which doesn't often go great if the type of tracks are so different).
    I think the bpm is even less important if it's like ~5-10 bpm difference, kinda cool when you can have a sped up or slowed down bass in some cases. Depends, but cool idea!
    If you also browse on your folders, you can include the bpm (search beat per minute tag when you right-click name or title), note in the title (not the name) the key, or even use the notes tag on the file to add descriptions about your track that would help you go over the other info, like % done or key, or completion parts! :)
