Just caught my first bass out of my kayak yesterday. 3 bass all decent (2-3lbs) learned a lot about positioning and dealing with wind. Much to learn, but I've learned a ton because of your videos! Thank you for the education. This green horn is hooked now😁
On protecting the fish you catch, consider getting angled needle nosed pliers, and good quality nippers that can easily cut apart even heavy hooks as a last resort. Larger fish can really inhale soft plastics even if you’re careful, and I hate to see a 5 lb bass injured or killed unnecessarily. Good pliers and nippers can be expensive, but most of us already spend a lot on lures and gear. Crimping down the barb is another option to make unhooking faster and safer for the fish, especially if you’re not in a tournament.
Even better than going where other people aren’t going, is going where they say not to go (minding obvious safety hazards.) Specifically, go where that one crusty old dude that only speaks in double negatives tells you not to go. “Don’t never go over there, there ain’t never no fish over there.” That’s where I go.

One of my personal rules. Don't kayak in 15+mph winds. It just wears me down and limits my time. I can't fish spots thoroughly because I don't have anchor. On these days I stick to the banks.

At the end of the day.. you do you. Fishing has a high percentage of personal preference... there can be disagreements on just about everything. So saying something definitive is hard to say and get away with.
On yak fishing sights n boards beginners as for tips and advice all they time. And they often get answers from guys that have very little experience. Which is fine if they share their experiences level. Other guys sounds like the dude you dealt with. A UA-cam expert.
Pull so much trash out of the water. Broken off fishing line too, sometimes get lucky and there’s still a usable lure/hook on the end. When bank fishing I carry plastic grocery bags in my tackle bag. So many fisherman leave so much of their trash on the bank. Make the rest of us look bad.
Can you come to SWPA and take me out fishing? 😂 Got my kayak last year and have only taken it out to paddle around! Have the fishing gear just nervous to go out and look like an idiot 😂
The ONLY time I don't wear a pfd is when I'm very specifically in the large pond near my house (big enough you need a kayak to get to the middle) but the water, save for a couple spots, is shallow enough to stand in and have your upper chest onward out of the water. Also, there's always a buddy who's really good at swimming with me, so even IF I got in a bad predicament, he can still cut me loose or get me out.

I’ve always told myself the day I think I know everything in tattooing will be the day I quit because I won’t KNOW IT ALL! I will be fooling myself!
Heck yeah brother! Jay is a good guy. Like him a lot. And yes, its a lot of work but it sounds like you are an artist, so I can see how you would enjoy the production side of the channel. GET SOME!
Hey bro recently found your channel and have been really enjoying your content. I'm new to kayak fishing and have learned a lot from watching your channel. I normally fish with a fly rod from my kayak and was wondering if you knew of any good channels that focus on fly fishing from a kayak. It presents some different challenges then fishing with a baitcaster or spinning reel and i'd love to hear some other people's solutions.
Thanks boss for reaching out. I really don't know of any channels that specialize in fly fishing from a yak. Definitely a niche. You should start that channel. Already got the name for you. "FlyYakker" :)
@@wendellfishing Thanks that's definitely a good name lol. I wouldn't mind starting a channel on fly fishing from a kayak it could be fun. I'll have to put some thought into it.
@@robgibbons6121 Right on! Let me know if I can answer any questions.
@@wendellfishing thanks man I appreciate that. I guess my first question is what would I need to start not fishing gear wise but like camera/editing software? I'm guessing a couple go pros but I don't know anything about making videos lol.
@@robgibbons6121 Yeah..I would simply get a go pro, a chest mount, and then edit on Imovie if you have a mac to get started. You can also just use your phone starting out. Remember, you first are your worst. Just keep hitting that record button
Your videos are amazing
Thanks boss! Means more than you know.
One of my personal rules. Don't kayak in 15+mph winds. It just wears me down and limits my time. I can't fish spots thoroughly because I don't have anchor. On these days I stick to the banks.
Right on brother! Stay safe out there.
How worried are you about snakes when you’re out by yourself? Especially when knee deep in water moving your kayak like in this video?
Not very worried.. but then again, I am in Ohio and the only snakes up here are the Water Moccasins.
@@wendellfishing I see them semi frequently here in Texas, so I definitely don’t feel as comfortable doing what you’re doing! Not to say I haven’t. Love the videos! Has helped me get a solid start in the sport!
@@joshuagerling1838 Right on.. glad they were helpful!
Rule 7 is great.
Right on brother!
Transducer arm or through the hulf of the boat?
For my Native Slayer Propel 10 I used a Yakattack Switchblade: geni.us/YakAttackSwitchblade for my Bonafide P127, there is a transducer mount in the design of the yak.
I love your videos 😊
Thanks boss!
I had a guy in a group trying to tell me what todo lol so I kept telling him to just do his own thing, and he just kept going. I kept saying you do you bud, and he ended up just deleting all his comments after lol. Sometimes it takes people a few minutes or hours to know they're being an asshat.
Oh, I subscribed 😉
Thanks boss!
I hear ya brother! Thanks for doing what you do!
Can you come to SWPA and take me out fishing? 😂
Got my kayak last year and have only taken it out to paddle around! Have the fishing gear just nervous to go out and look like an idiot 😂
Congrats on your new kayak! Who cares what others think... Throw your fishing gear in that yak and start beating up the bank and GET SOME!
Looking like an idiot can be part of starting many new things
@@michaelburk9171 true 😄
The ONLY time I don't wear a pfd is when I'm very specifically in the large pond near my house (big enough you need a kayak to get to the middle) but the water, save for a couple spots, is shallow enough to stand in and have your upper chest onward out of the water. Also, there's always a buddy who's really good at swimming with me, so even IF I got in a bad predicament, he can still cut me loose or get me out.
The old 95 / 5 rule. If 95% are with you why waste time on the 5%. Well said.
Thanks boss! Appreciate it.
You have entirely too much stuff. May as well get a small powerboat.
Hard pass on the glitter bus
Gear doesn't do you any good if it's in the garage
Rule Number 8 got me a pair of nice weighted neon green led bobbers and a fishing net last weekend.
Niiiiice!
