All the older hair styles will work better if you hair has been thoroughly brushed and not washed for two or three days. Washing your hair with shampoo every day causes your scalp to give up sending out your natural oils so you need the conditioner. That makes your hair too slick to hold many of these styles. Remember that daily or even even more than once or twice a week wasn’t common until the mid 50’s. The excuse for not going out with a boy was “I’ve just washed my hair and can’t do a thing with it!” Even earlier, shampoos were rare to non existent.
Thank you! I'd love to see you try more styles! My hair is hip length and very thick, so I'm always searching for vintage looking styles that don't require shorter hair or a lot of curling or extra products.
I found the Fashions in Hair: the First Five Thousand Years by Richard Corson at several prices by using Bookfinder.com which searches several sites including Amazon.com and Amazon.uk.com. Search by the author’s name is easiest in this case. I picked up a used library one for $13.00, there are several other used from $14.00 on up. They also search other countries and languages (I saw one edition in Korean!). Not associated, long time customer for affordable books, new and used.
@@SarahBevElizabeth I think so, it probably depends on how thick you make it. I have straight hair that does Not hold curl at all and i think it helps a bit. There are a lot of tutorials on youtube, but mostly for curly hair.
This was exactly what I wanted to write :) Flaxseed / linseeds are great! Also, you can make your own all natural / cgm approved (?) setting spray: sugar water.
I don't think I'd do any of these hairstyles but I found you playing with your hair VERY entertaining! Loved to see your process of finding new hairstyle too.
Please make more videos, my hair is fine long& straight, will not hold curl, I like up dos,I could use little fullness on the sides. Love your videos....
Oh Lucy, I cringe every time you open those bobby pins with your teeth! You're so beautiful and I'd hate to see you with badly chipped teeth. Take it from an old lady! I am so looking forward to seeing your curly girl journey. 💫
Hi, about the first hairstyle: what I like to do, if my hair´s straight is that I take the front sections and do sth like this: www.councilofelrond.com/albums/elvish_hairstyles/reverse7.jpg (you don't have to do braids, just roll it) only a bit looser and than wrap the rest around it. You then don´t have to use the headband, so it doesn´t like so mainstream :)
I believe I am meant to get into vintage styling because, way before this video was even uploaded, I found myself attempting to create the 1940s updo that you've done here, but leaving the ponytail as a ponytail. 😅
I'm growing out bangs (fortunately, just drying them backwards and tasing a bit makes them stay pretty well) and my current go-to is two rope lace braids tucked under each other and pinned at the back. Occasionally I do it with French braids like Josephine Montilyet.
It doesn't for the most part, and when it does it's a citation from that period and pretty much impossible to follow. I don't recommend it for that purpose
Omg usually 15 minute videos feel so long, but I could've watched this for an HOUR and 15 minutes. Or at least a favorite from each decade! 😁 I feel like vintage hair is so much more difficult when I don't curl my hair--I'm going to look up that book now! Thank you for this one!
On the opposite extreme, I was wondering if you could do a video on really curly vintage hairstyles. I have curly curly hair and most hairstyles seem to include curling your hair, which would mean I would have to straighten and then curl my hair with rollers or something
I also have long, straight Hair and bangs and I would love to see some vintage hairstyles with bangs. I know that it isn't easy but do you think it would be possible for you to make a video about vintage hairstyles with bangs? I always wanted to do a everyday wearable vintage or vintage inspired hairstyle that is not damaging for my hair but I have never seen a video to help me. I really like your channel and your videos! Keep up the good work!
Hi Loepsie, I hope this doesn't upset you if you read this.. I had the same problem with my long hair, it was falling like crazy and getting really thin (I also have straight hair with no volume), so a few years ago I decided to stop using heat, I'm not even blow drying it anymore, also I've cut it into a long bob and it already looked so much better. It really saved my hair, now it's way more healty and it has regrown again. I think a long bob would suit you very well and it is worth a try, also you could teach us heatless vintage hairstyles for shorter hair^^ or use a wig or extensions for the long hair tutorials, sorry again for blabbering so much:*
Two weeks? 😜 I've been keeping it shorter for over a year though, since I've been using heat on my hair it doesn't really look good at waist I think. This is the shortest I've had it in years though, it's now at bra strap length
I love this video, i have super long hair witch is pretty straight. And vintage hairstyles are often require curls. Please make a part 2
This is perfect!! I can never find vintage inspired tutorials for my hair type. Thank you!!❤️
Love this!! My hair is long and semi-straight but normal vintage hairstyles just take too much time with curling. I'd love to see you try some more!!
As somebody with long, straight hair and bangs, I REALLY appreciate this video! Thank you!

I do only wash my hair twice a week 😁
Loepsie same
I definitely like the last look the best! Looks very easy. Definitely going to try this at home.
Do a video on the vintagey books your recommend and own! Love when people study and write about the history of things!! Haha
Man I want that book! Love this video❤💙💛
Would love to see more styles!
The book you showed looked so cool! I think I might have to get it just for more hairstyle inspo for sure!
Love this hair style 😊
I LOVE you. So much Lucy
Me encantan tus vídeos no me los pierdo, eres una chica muy bella, auténtica y con mucho talento.
Beautiful
Love your glasses! What brand are they?
Thanks! These are the Nao's by Michael Kors
Aren't you are the character "Mehrima" from the drama "Sultan Sulaman" ???
wow your hair is so thin
Thank you! I'd love to see you try more styles! My hair is hip length and very thick, so I'm always searching for vintage looking styles that don't require shorter hair or a lot of curling or extra products.
Ah, yes, the complete opposite of my hair 😂 and yet I still clicked
Libby Bowen same! My hair is super curly but I still want to watch this interesting vid

I would love more of these! My hair is very long and refuses to curl. This is perfect 🖤
You can make gel/setting lotion by boiling linseeds in water. ~ 3 dl water, 1 tbs linseeds. Boil for 10-15 min and remove the seeds
Wow this is quite interesting. Never heard of this recipe before. Thank you.
And does it just help the curl hold? I’m so new to all this haha and I just cut my hair for the first time in years... I used to just braid it.

@@SarahBevElizabeth it works okay for my (wavy and fine) hair.
Please do an other one! Please !

We need more videos like this! You absolutely nailed it! My favorite was also the last one. Super video!
I love this video, I have a long straight hair, I tried this for my birthday it made a new look and everyone loved it thank you 😍😍👍👍

Where did you buy that book from?
Very helpful. Just what I was looking for 😊

Lovely video, Lucy 🙂 You can still use hairspray and hairgel with the Curly Girl Method, it just has to be silicone free!
My hair just won’t hold a curl! This looks so helpful
I need that book in my life!! Such interesting hairstyles were made in history. I wish i could wear some of them on a daily basis! 🤣
Thanks for the book recommendation! 💖
*Does the book go into detail on how to achieve any hairstyle?*
It doesn't for the most part, and when it does it's a citation from that period and pretty much impossible to follow. I don't recommend it for that purpose
I actually really would like to see these side buns/braids.
Love it!!! Will be doing this one
So cool

You Can get hairspray without alcohols, and you Can use sugar water, flat beer or other homemade things as setting lotion, i am on the cgm too ☺️

Fantastic video! I'm with you on the last look being the best one. I'd definitely watch a sequel to this. ;)
I like your first 20’s style with your bangs out. Love the braided style. More of thoseplease😃
lovely!
U are so cute. I try all hair style of you but some of them don't look good on me. But u look cool in every.

I think 60's hairstyles are more "retro" than vintage
My name is Maryam...
lLove you so much Lucy
I especially like the last one. Thank you.
Where do you find these old books?
I Love You So much 😢😭💕💕💕💕
Lovely, thank you 🌷
beautiful!
LOVE THIS
Cuuutie ❤
Very pretty❤
Merci :)
Have you considered or tried to grow your hair longer?
I've tried for years, but it won't grow much past waist length :(
It looks like it’s just past shoulder length now, how long ago did you cut it from waist length?
Two weeks? 😜 I've been keeping it shorter for over a year though, since I've been using heat on my hair it doesn't really look good at waist I think. This is the shortest I've had it in years though, it's now at bra strap length
Loved that Video thank you Lucy💙ps. You look so beautiful with that Hairstyle😍😊
