The video shows you some detailed information about the Forbidden City- a royal palace in ancient China. The history and the structure of the Forbidden City are are shown in the video. In the video, there are some conversations with local people with the pinyin subtitles, which is so much easier for boosting both your listening skill and reading skill. Hope this videos is helpful for you!

    Your inclusion of the Chinese characters, Pinyin, and English translations, with key words highlighted, is amazing. As someone who has been learning languages for a while, I know how helpful but also tiring this actually is. Thank you so much for the great work! 感谢 🙂

    Hi Christine, thanks for the consistent videos. Could you make the chinese characters bigger than the english subtitles please. I think it would help to focus more on the chinese characters. I always try to read along while listening, but after some time my eyes or brain always switches to the english subtitles. thanks again for your effort
    你辛苦了!加油!!!

      Thank you so much for your advice, I need that to improve my content to make it easier for Chinese/ Mandarin learners. And as you suggested, I’ll make the Chinese subtitles bigger in the next videos. Hope your Chinese learning journey is more and more enjoyable😊

    Thank you for the video. It's a great learning resource with all three lines of chinese characters, punyin and English of shown together. If i may request, could you add a downloadable pdf or some kind of document containing those three lines too. This way we can print it and turn it into a flash card for memorizing characters. Keep up the great work, you could even think of turning parts of this channel into a paid course and I'll gladly pay for it.

    看景色有多美 = "look how beautiful the scenery is"
    一两千多年 = "more than one or two thousand years"
    I think these are the two most interesting sentence constructions in the video, both using 多.

    When 多 is followed by an adjective (such as 美), then 多 has the meaning "how" (to what extent). To say "is" with this 多, Chinese uses 有 (and not 是). For example:
    月球有多远? = "How far is the moon?"

    When 多 means "more than", it usually follows two characters. For example:
    三十多 = "more than thirty" ; 四百多 = "more than four hundred".
    But the important thing is that it typically follows characters such as 十, 百, or 千.
    So, in 一两千多年 the 多 follows three characters (rather than the usual two).

    What happened to the "purple shirts". I didn't see them at the Forbidden city. Maybe they got lost at the Great Wall, or maybe the Mongolians got them, or they thought they were forbidden to enter this site.

    • @chinesewithchristine1876
      @chinesewithchristine1876  3 місяці тому

      Oh it’s the miss spelling in the subtitles. It should be like what I said “hái yǒu”. 还 has two pronunciations with different usage and different meanings. When it pronounces as “huán”, it means to return something or give something back to someone. For example, you can say: 我还了一本书给你( wǒ huán le yì běn shū gěi nǐ), meaning: I gave a book back to you. When it pronounces as “hái” it means “still”
