i do slurry in a brute and peg the pH to 8.35 24/7. the brute lasts me a month before needing refilled and it does almost all of my top off as a byproduct :)
I pre-mix my Kalkwasser and dose clear liquid to my 66gal mixed reef but also dose 3part - so far so good. I have a 15gal Nano with only LPS and started dosing Tropic Marin All For Reef about 6months ago. Absolutely love the stuff - it does all elements including trace, considering switching my main tank from 3part to AFR!
It’s the cover photo of your “7 things about Kalk that suck” - just realised it might not be your coral - the purple and green plating month photo - looks awesome
All these things you bring up are exactly why I concluded early on that kalk is far to much for the very small benefit it gives to ph. It's a total waste of time compared to a decent two part imo.
Kalk will more or less replace your need to have a big ATO container though so I don't actually find it takes up that much more space. Yes, its way more annoying make a new batch of kalk than it is to top up the ATO container but thats a different problem.
Why not use sodium-hydroxide instead, solves 6 of the 7 things you hate. Less mess, no clogging, doesn't loose potency, waaaay more soluble so much less space necessary, full ability to tune KH and Ca/Mg independently. If you have a aquarium controller you can even switch between sodium hydroxide and bicarb depending on the pH. That's how I do it now. I'll never go back to KW. P.S. guess how zlements and other brands achieve the pH increase they advertise... ;-)
I am trying to decide between kal and all for reef powder. I dont guess kalk can be dosed by hand? Will I need to buy a stirrer? Space is a huge problem on my kitchen counter where I have a 20 aio. I also have lots of gonis in there and my amazeballs not doing so well! I do large water changes though like 30 percent so not even sure if I need the trace elements! I also love the ph boost you are speaking of so that what has me torn and am looking for fast growth! Looks like you had a small batch mixed up for small tank. Can I do that and not need a stirrer? What would you recommend?
The only thing that annoys me, is the clogged outlets and lines. Mostly because I have my current tank on the second floor of my home. Leaks are not acceptable, and the only thing that's come close to ever flooding, is the Kalk stir device I use. However, I have noticed that if I wait a few hours after stirring to let it fully settle out, I go many weeks longer without clogs. If I were in a basement or on concrete, I honestly would be bothered. (which is where the tank upgrade is going)
What annoys me is it isn't strong enough for my tank as my tank has a very low evaporation rate. I lose less about half a gallon a day on a 150 gallon system and have to either make a concentrated solution with vinegar or supplement with all for reef. Also have overdosed it a couple of times as I currently have it on my ATO and that can be a bit scary. Going to swap to dosing pump instead though. So hopefully that will solve that.
hey reef dork ive watched your video on goniopora and i have a question i want to ask you because i am stumped. my goni is under ai blades at 40% royal blue 40% blue 0% white and all my lps are happy at the same level in the tank as this goniopora is at, and my goni is just very mad and wont open fully. a crazy hypothesis i have made is my fish are to blame not my parameters or lights, the reason i think this is my tailspot blenny loves to swim through it on his way back to his cave do you think this would have a goniopora coral (green) mad?
I noticed in my system when trying to raise my ph after dodging kale for about a week or so my alkalinity shots up to 12 plus so I have to stop doseing the kale and my ph suffers So what is the fix for that? I run a calcium reactor
@@reeferholic652 It raised pH massivley (too high for my liking at around 9) and it's super concentrated which doesn't suit a small tank. Didn't cause any issues with the tank though, it's just not for me.
What a mess!!! Many people will simply not use kalkwsser when they believe everything this video is publishing. As Mg would need to be included???? LOL!!! I've never heard about that!!! And all that mess around? Hummm... Is this just to get comments against the things in this video?

Do you like kalk better of AFR?
In depth investigating reporting . Good job & Thanks 😊
Always love your videos. You should put an affiliate link to the US version of the kalkwasser so we can purchase it here and support your work.
Thanks for the video, Alex. I considered things like the lack of trace elements, but I'm going to give it a trial and see where I end up :)

Ah, that's a watermelon chalice. Lovely coral.

I know you are newer to Kalk (as by your own admission). One thing you didnt mention is that 2 part raises salinity. Kalk does not. Just mentioning it

Great video on kalkwasser.
Once youve used them all you learn that soda ash is king....TRUST
1:37 Cut the dosingline at an angle to stop it clogging (that fast)

If space is an issue, all for reef is better. I've made a comparison video of afr and kalk on my Reef Dork Xtra channel that's worth a look
Hey man can i add kalk to my 5 gallon bucket and use a doser to top off my tank ?

Where do you buy the barbed fittings for the little bulkheads on the dosing bottles?
They come with ecotech versa dosing pumps

I LOVE your purple & green plating montipora - what’s it called please?
Got a time stamp?
Hope you do a review of the Reef Zelements PhPlus

That wouldn't bother it, but those blennies can nip at corals.

No mention of the EVO? Have you broke that one down??
Yep, moved it over to the Cade
Would you need to dose kalkwassa with soft corals long term
I've never kept a tank with only soft corals so can't say for sure, but I'd guess probably yes, but you'll only need a very small amount
Where do you keep your temperature at?
25 on my SPS tank, 24 on my LPS tank.
When will you be doing a video on reef zlements?
I've stopped using it now so don't think I'll make a video - it wasn't for me
@@ReefDork Really any issues with it did it raise ph and maintain it?

Which coral is in the thumbnail? Montipora?
It's a watermelon chalice
What happened to the foxface on you main I saw on a video from before that he was super thin is he okay/still with you?
He died shortly after that video unfortunately
@ReefDork Rip was a beautiful fish I have one of my own and love it. Love your videos they have helped me alot on my own journey in this amazing hobby
I myself dose kalkwasser + phplus from reefzlmemts + co2 scrubber. My ph is 8.5-8.8
I use Kalk and automatically change 2.0 litres of salt water in my 320 litre tank per day. So far I have not had to dose any more additives.
I dose my kalk manually, there is no mess, use the drip method from BRS
I didnt know you can do that! How do I find the youtube from brs?
Just hate the problems the stuff gives. But love the ph
If you cut your tubing at a hard angle the tubing is less likely to clog.
Nice tip
Breathing it in sux
I think with any sps tank all is needed… kalk and doses
creamy looking splash back - that's what she said
All in reef is probably the best 🤷🏻♀️
AFR
Kalk lost for me at number 5. Thats it, never gonna use it
