Rosie Perez main passion was dancing. She always wanted to be a choreographer. She would sit Jennifer Lopez down when it comes to dancing. Acting came along later.

Prior to selena jlo had been acting in other films in the 90's, but Selena had people talking about her. After she finished the movie she was inspired to get back in touch with her roots and she recorded a demo in spanish and sent Vivir Sin Ti to Sony Music. She got signed after being advised to sing in English. Meanwhile she was acting in various different movies Anaconda, U-Turn, out of sight and provided a voice over for a character in Antz all before 1999. Now I'm not saying these were good movies cuz let's be honest...they werent, all the while working on her first album. She was already an actress who was up and coming, not a meteoric rise by any means but still up and coming. When on the 6 dropped and did well, yes it allowed her to cross over and become the huge pop star she is today.
So let's recap shall we:
Prior to her joining In Living Color she was a back up dancer for other pop acts. She joins In living Color where Perez was a choreographer. By 1993 she decides to persue acting full time makes some movies like Money Train and Jack. She gets the role Of Selena for the movie of same name. After everything is said and done for filming, is inspired to record a demo in Spanish sends a single to Sony and gets signed if she will sing in English. From there works on her first album while still acting. So yeah...if it hadn't been for Selena, she would most likely still be doing be movies and lousy romcoms and most likely wouldn't have crossed over the way she did.
JLo became a star because of the Selena movie. THAT was her big break. If Selena hadn't died, who knows what would have happened with JLo. It's safe to say that she rode on Selena's coat tails. I am a fan of JLo but come on everyone knows it was because of the Quintanilla family!
