He's a psychotic killer
Here's another thing about Rhenyra running away with Ser Criston that neither of them take into account.
She is not the third daughter of some lord with 8 kids. She is the heir to the throne, the oldest child of the king, the only child he had with his first wife (whom he dearly loved). There is no way, even if he disinherits her for Aegon, that Viserys doesn't try to track her down. Quite frankly, there's no way Daemon doesn't try to track her down. Especially now that he is free to marry. They would be constantly on the move, constantly hiding, never able to live any kind of settled life. Even if she took Syrax with her, she and Criston would have a very difficult time of it.

The thing is that Ser Criston proposes to her not because he loves her, but because of his guilt and selfish needs. Imagine asking a princess who is heir to a continent to abandon everything for him.
But as she had said many times she didnt want to be Queen.

First episode but also quoting Ser Cole, she apparently told him many times.
No less selfish than her, she just want a boy toy on the side and never once considered the position she was putting him in. She endangered his life, if he was caught he could face torture and mutilation, a slow death. She just wants what she wants and doesn't really care what other people feel. She is not a perfect person in this story and is shown to be rather spoiled, quick to judge and enjoys getting her way. She swore on her recently dead mother she was a virgin to her best friend. She is more like Daemon than her Father in a lot of ways. Criston's request wasn't that selfish though, he is the only person she has ever met that has offered to value her for her and not her title. Many would call that romantic. She moans and whines a lot about how tough her life is, yet has never gone a day hungry or without living in luxury. Her main complaint is that she can't get what she wants, without having to sacrifice for it, the very hallmark of immaturity.

He may not have expected it, he was just pinning his hopes on it because he could live with having given up his honor for true love. He's a romantic with lofty ideals of honor. But the idea that he threw away his honor to be a side piece hurt him profoundly, and he spent every moment from then on looking for death wherever he could find it.

You guys are the first people I've seen that pointed out that Alicent was basically a stone statue when the group returned from Driftmark. "Look at the 'concern' on her face" indeed, if my spouse (who I know to be in poor health) collapsed in front of me, I'd be surprised and worried and moving down those steps to get to them as quickly as possible, the first time as much as the fiftieth time.

Remember Cole is a commoner. Things like honor, integrity and loyalty are all things Cole ACTUALLY believes in. In Kings Landing the nobles don’t give a damn. It’s all politics and schemes. He wasn’t prepared for the types of games that they play at this level.

We meet Larys Strong, larys the club foot, in episode 3; he’s the one that goes and sits with the women. Green is the color of house hightower, Otto & Alicents house. But yes, Alicent is pretty much making it clear where she stands. Criston attacked Joffrey bc Joffrey pretty much threatened him with the his secret of sleeping with Rhaeynra, and overall, criston just snapped, I think.

the one thing that confused me of the wedding fight is why didn't daemon take out cole when rhaenyra got shoved, he would have been very protective of her.
In my personal opinion and from how I saw it, Daemon pushed her to the side(so she wouldn’t be caught in the fighting) when Criston was advancing to the middle of the room and then simply left to not get involved in any of the actual fighting. But that’s just my take on it, because as you said, he definitely seems protective of her (in public anyway).

Otto is not right. Rhaenyra wouldn’t just kill Alicent’s kids. If they supported her as they were supposed to then she’d never try and harm them. She would only ever go after them if they come after her first.
It is understandable why Otto would think that though. As long as her brother is alive then Rhaenyra’s claim will be under question.

If he instead had them support Rhaenyra then he’d realize there’d literally be no reason for her to go after him and she wouldn’t. Houses might bitch because she’s a woman but at the end of the day their wishes are irrelevant if they’re up against a dozen dragons with none of their own and the person they want to be king doesn’t want it and instead supports his sister. I had to watch it over and I think fight was not because Sir Criston was jealous Rhaenyna hurt him but I think Joffrey disrespected him coming up to him talking about secrets everyone don't get down like the Targaryens and the seasnake family.

no, he didnt do it because he was jealous. he feels like he ruined his life with this decision and wants to be honorable and noble, and Joffrey tried to sell him on this idea of them both being these constant liars and secret lovers to protect Laenor and Rhaenyra and he just snaps. who knows what else was said but i think we can infer that it's all about what's going on in Criston's head and what he's thinking of himself

Open homosexuality is not common in Westeros. So a commoner like Sir Criston was probably startled by the extent of what he perceived as immorality by the higher class:
1. being seduced by princess who later rejects his offer of marriage and simply wants to use him as a sex toy,
2. being allowed to live after admitting to the queen that he defiled the princess,
3. watching the woman he loves being married off to another man
and
4. then being approached by the homosexual lover of the princess's future husband who somehow knows that he defiled the princess.
That was probably-- just too much-- for a simple guy like Sir Criston who believes in honor and duty and the purity of the royal family.

I don't see how Otto Hightower was right about Rhaenerys killing off her half siblings in order to claim the throne. I believe he was projecting what HE would have done unto Alicent. And she swallowed it, hook, line and sinker. Criston's request to elope was selfish in my eyes. It certainly didn't come from love. It came from his attempt to justify breaking his Kingsguard vow in order to have sex Rhaenyra. Yes, she can be selfish. I won't deny it. But I think Criston was being equally selfish. As for Alicent's reaction to Rhaenyra's lie . . . I found it hypocritical. Their friendship had barely been repaired by the last episode. And quite frankly, I cannot see Rhaenyra admitting to Alicent over what really happened, considering the slightly hostile manner in which the latter had first approached her on the subject and her own failure to at least inform Rhaenyra that Otto had ordered her to seduce Viscerys. Why is it, at this point that many had forgotten why Rhaenerya had been angry at her father, Alicent and Otto for nearly four years?

😕😕😕Criston is way too emotive and a romantic when it came to Rhaenyra (who does like him and wanted him to stick around, maybe not in the way he approved, but she even offered him leave if he wanted it)...but being rejected and scared he went full on oath-breaker. He's committing treason by asking her to run away, then treason again by betraying her again by blurting out that he slept with Rhaenyra to Alicent...he's unhinged (and yes I get why, but he's not knight material if he's willing to turn on her so quick).

Even so she would choose her uncle before she chooses Christian Cole because of status a high house suitor. I really real for Cole he got his broken but buy doing doing this The only person who knows when her secret is Cole Laenor herself and Alicent where as The people who know about Laenors secret are his mother his father Cole Rhaenyra himself and probably soon to be Alicent and we all know if the queen finds out she is definitely going to use it against Rhaenyra in some way..
