Went ahead and decided to pick up it up since they obviously aren't using it anymore and it's basically almost new. Having a guitar hero controller in this good of condition feels like I'm in possession of some hidden sacred lost artifact LOL.

Like Bimmety mentioned in the comments, please be careful with cheap PS2 Adapters. Lots of the really cheap ones cause a large amount of input lag making a lot of easy stuff seem impossible. The best choice for PS2 controllers will always be Raphnet.
On the topic of close buttons and quick fretting. I find the rock band guitar to be the best. There are 10 frets total, 5 touch eachother at a time. Ones at the top hold your left hand and the ones at the bottom are even more compact. You can tap and strum at vary quick paces using the top and bottom frets simultaneously.
I use a RB1 wired 360 variant and the thing about the buttons is so true. they're a bit wider than GH buttons which takes some getting used to but sliding between notes is a breeze. however personally, the strum bar is absolute trash. sticky, hard, no click so harder to stay in time on faster songs. absolute dream guitar would be a GH5 strum bar with an RB1 neck imo.

Really enjoyed this format of video from you. I think with your expertise on CH/GH you could do other guides for the game like tricky patterns in game or even how to best optimise the game itself. Good stuff my man keep it up!
We're overdue for a new guitar hero. After the popularity of clone hero, the time since the last good GH allowing series fatigue to wear off, and the disaster of Live showing everyone that maybe the formula was fine and didn't need a drastic change; a new GH that's pretty much the same as Warriors of Rock would probably do very well and a I know of a lot of bands that would love to be a part and might have enough pull to convince the industry bigwigs to play ball. They could also hybridize the way they did the originals and Live, turn it into a monster-hunter-like semi-live-service where they have events, challenges, and a ton of DLC song packs of all different genres but is also a great standalone game. I really think it would do well if they didn't dump TOO much money into it and expect instant huge returns
Acai you’re a life saver man I used to play with a keyboard and held it like a guitar and didn’t know where to find one but I found one cause of you thanks a lot
Side note: you can also use for the Wii guitars (or wiitars) a Wiimote itself as a bluetooth adapter, using WiitarThing. Just make sure that the Wiimote is an official Nintendo one and not third-party, or else it won't work. Latency is fine, though it's not as optimized as the Raphnet ones I think. But hey, if you own a wii and happen to have a good wiimote, it's not really a bad choice
Yes, only 17ms of latency, works awesome. But yes... ONLY WITH ORIGINAL WIIMOTES GUYS or you gonna have to pair everytime you play the game with a 3rd party things.
@@alecsrobespierre nah, my 3rd party one works every time. Just fire up the program, turn on the Wiimote and it connects automatically. Latency feels fine, about the same as on guitar hero Wii.
I found 2 fully working xplorers for 20 euro (23 dollars) in my country's equivalent of ebay last week. The secret of finding guitar hero guitars is time and patience
I cut the usb off the end of my broken generic PS2 to USB adapter. Soldered and electric taped it with a new usb connector. It works again! Now time to shop goodwill for a wired PS2 controller. I did find one Guitar Mania V third party wireless controller with on my last trip, but was hesitant about the wireless dongle.
I'm watching the video and throughout the entire time I'm like. Why is every single Green button on his guitars blue? Then it hit me: It's a GREEN SCREEN. The button is green. Just what is being projected on that green button.
I've been using a ps4 rock band 4 controller for the longest time cause I just had it and couldn't afford a new guitar or adapter, and honestly it's worked pretty damn well
@@ori.g4mi I know the struggle on both fronts! At least for melee you can AT LEAST get a newer smash gc controller. For clone hero........yeah nope! Nada! Zilch! Good luck!
I personally main the Jag from PS4. I know a lot of people dont like the RB style of guitars, but its really not that bad. I can still get FCs. The Jag just pairs directly to the PC via bluetooth with no adapter. Full whammy and SP support.
One of the major cons of the ps2 controllers, is that when you do convert it to a USB port, you lose out on yhr whammy bar and tilt functionality. The tilt doesn't work at all, and the whammy acts as if it's the up strum of the guitar. And the only other guitar I have is the RB controller for ps4. Its got pretty low latency when I used it, but I much preferred listening to my strums as it also helped keep me in time with the songs.
My cousin gave me one of his X-plorer guitars, it has a sticky orange button, but it's an easy problem to fix, you just gotta blow into it. And I got it for free, so I'm not complaining.
It is currently 2022. Every adaptor for every kind of controller is either out of stock or overpriced to hell. At the moment, playing clone hero with a controller is realistically impossible for anyone on a budget and can't spend up to 100$ plus. The options currently are find any guitar anywhere and then expect to wait and pay minimum of 50$ to maybe be able to play. I'm genuinely surprised that no one has made a PC compatible controller yet.
exactly! they make you think the adapter for the wii controllers would be a good deal but hell no!! the price for the raphnet goes for $51 and thats without taxes. (if your country has them) and the cost of a regular controller these days go well for 40-60$ range, so sometimes even the most expensive guitars are actually CHEAPER than buying the dongle and guitar separately. we desperately need someone to make custom guitars
Lol I paid $190 for a Xplorer and a GH warriors of rock guitar bundle, shipping included. In 2022. I only paid up cause it’s hard to find those two in a bundle and in good working condition. GH is one of my favorite Franchises besides Tomb Raider. I need to get another Xplorer and a GH WT /5 Guitar. I need a full collection of guitars and games. I even have a full rock band set working.
wanting to get back into this guitar hero because i miss it so bad and this helped a lot. fresh into 2022 and prices are 20 ish dollars higher but i paid 55 for a wireless les paul, dont think i got ripped off too bad
PHEW. Dodged a bullet on this one. So right before watching this video, I had purchased the PS3 Les Paul and adapter from Ebay. The guitar was understandably $40. The adapter however was $50. Meh.. I was like.... ok. Sure. I had no idea about the input lag on those suckers, though. Immediately refunded both and got the Wii Les Paul for $30 and the adapter was only $15. Thank you so much for the info!!
One problem I have with the World Tour style controllers is the slider. The slider is one more thing that can potentially break. Maybe Clone Hero doesn't support it and won't be reading any inputs from a faulty slider, but if it does it can cause some issues. I remember back when I played World Tour on the guitar that came with it, that my slider broke and would randomly strum for no reason, breaking my streak on plenty of occasions. I can tell that for some reason it was registering taps on the yellow section of the slider because it was always lit up during slider sections in the game. It did have a great form factor, but if you're using it to play any games that support the neck slider, I would seriously recommend having a plan for if the slider breaks.
@@staringcorgi6475 Well, I'm pretty sure an addendum to my comment should be that all games in the series that support the slider allow you to turn it off. I'm not sure how I didn't know that, but even in World Tour, you can turn it off in the options menu. It's actually not very relevant to Clone Hero because everything is mapped by you, so you can just not map anything on the slider if you want. If it causes you problems with mapping controls (due to a slider sensor flickering) you can just disconnect it if you have the know-how and the right screwdriver. From a quality perspective, I think I saw somewhere that the GH5 controller is kind of the gold standard of Guitar Hero controllers in what remains of the community. It has the improvements from the WT controller (the form factor is the same and the start and select button are now right next to the strum bar). I think some people say that strum bar was improved from WT, but it's been a while since I looked into it. I'm a casual GH/CH enjoyer so I get by with my WoR controller, but I do wish I had either a WT or GH5 controller because the strum bar is pretty small on the WoR controller. :/
Honestly, my favorite controller is the WoR. Mechanically, it's not the best, but the shape of it is most comfortable for me (plus, replacing the strum switches and getting mechanical frets made it perfect)
I would 100% recommend the GH5 Wiitars. They're the best of two worlds. The large and comfortable body of the GH5 and the low latency of the Raphnet (yes, Frif was wrong about it, it actually can output 1000Hz). Also, it's SO much cheaper than the Les Paul Wiitar, as it isn't as valuable/sawed after as the Les Paul. For example, I got my GH5 guitar with the Raphnet for like 100$ including shipping, and my Les Paul for for 180$. Ludicrous, I know.
@@alextoledo53 I'm pretty sure it was from the person that made the solderless kit for GH guitars. I don't know their name o. UA-cam but I did get their adapter for less than 20$ including shipping.
i recently found and picked up a warriors of rock wiitar for 2.50$ in a unknown condition at a flea market, a few days ago i finally got to test it and it works perfectly except for tilt not working at all, one of the best deals in my life.
Got a wireless PS3 Mettalica Guitar and it works just fine, never had any issues except the battery dying in the middle of a song. Since playing Clone Hero i became a lot better because its far more precise than on the PS3 so the latency can´t be that huge of a problem.

I actually managed to find PS3 guitars for cheap at a goodwill, WITH THE DONGLE
Still trash but I hope you're having fun with it!
@@acai28 Mostly on my PlayStation. It, kinda works on Clone Hero, but tilt doesn't work.
@@acai28 I use my old ps3 guitar for ch, and it drops in input every now and then. Gonna try get a wii guitar soon.

I use a ps3 world tour controller for clone hero and emulators on pc and ironically, it works better on PC than the actual ps3 LMAO
You gotta make more content like this. This format is AWESOME
bro, thank you for your vid. I recently discovered clone hero and this video makes it easy for me to find guitars that will work on pc! thank you so much. keep up the good work!
That ad setup was so smooth I spent the entire time of the ad just admiring the transition.
Damn, the amount of explorers I smashed in the day is crazy. I love that guitar. I still have one I used on pc for a long time.
This is perfect switching from a keyboard to a guitar is such a improvement years ago I tried hours on end to get at least a 60 percent on ttfaf and never could couple years later got a pc got clone hero worked grinded hours on end and have gotten to about 97 almost 100 but a major improvement i grind supernovae before I sold my pc got 90 percent before I sold it
There's literally ppl/companies selling them for over 100 bucks like wtf I could never find a guitar under 80 bucks lol. Thank you!
Try Kijiji, though dongles are still $50, you can find guitars for like $25 or less.
The random urge as an adult to buy things I once cherished as a kid 😭
This is exactly the video I was hoping to find. Excellent content. Thank you man!

*ALERT ALERT*
Really enjoyed this format of video from you. I think with your expertise on CH/GH you could do other guides for the game like tricky patterns in game or even how to best optimise the game itself. Good stuff my man keep it up!
The worst is the shipping on ebay, i always find a good 20-30$ guitar but it always has 40$ shipping
I installed this yesterday, works fine with my third party motionplus controller
Yes, only 17ms of latency, works awesome. But yes... ONLY WITH ORIGINAL WIIMOTES GUYS or you gonna have to pair everytime you play the game with a 3rd party things.
Would I be able to do something like that for Xbox 360 ones?
@@alecsrobespierre nah, my 3rd party one works every time. Just fire up the program, turn on the Wiimote and it connects automatically. Latency feels fine, about the same as on guitar hero Wii.
@@aaronjonessonofindianajones Just buy a xbox 360 controller receiver and that's it. Or just plug in to PC with the charge & Play cable.
I found 2 fully working xplorers for 20 euro (23 dollars) in my country's equivalent of ebay last week. The secret of finding guitar hero guitars is time and patience
You do realize that someone will chart the Raid Shadow Legends theme now, right?
I cut the usb off the end of my broken generic PS2 to USB adapter. Soldered and electric taped it with a new usb connector. It works again! Now time to shop goodwill for a wired PS2 controller. I did find one Guitar Mania V third party wireless controller with on my last trip, but was hesitant about the wireless dongle.
If you're willing to do a little DIY work, as of 2024, PS3 guitars (especially Les Pauls) are some of the best, thanks to RetroCult's solderless kits.
I'm watching the video and throughout the entire time I'm like. Why is every single Green button on his guitars blue? Then it hit me: It's a GREEN SCREEN. The button is green. Just what is being projected on that green button.
youre actually wrong.
I've been using a ps4 rock band 4 controller for the longest time cause I just had it and couldn't afford a new guitar or adapter, and honestly it's worked pretty damn well
Whatever works well for you!
Imagine having to hunt down a controller just to play a game...
Edit: they need to start making them again!
They really do
I have the game and guitar but lost the dongle :( I have been searching everywhere!! I'm not spending $180 for a dongle
@@vickymorales1037 that’s my current problem as well, I don’t kneed you guitar I’ve already got one
You're not a Melee player I see
@@ori.g4mi I know the struggle on both fronts!
Also $200 from what I see lol
I’m so happy you made this video because I’m going crazy trying to choose the right console and controller. PC sadly isn’t an option.
I love how man had a les Paul in the background😭
One of the major cons of the ps2 controllers, is that when you do convert it to a USB port, you lose out on yhr whammy bar and tilt functionality. The tilt doesn't work at all, and the whammy acts as if it's the up strum of the guitar. And the only other guitar I have is the RB controller for ps4. Its got pretty low latency when I used it, but I much preferred listening to my strums as it also helped keep me in time with the songs.
Depends on which adapter you buy. If you buy Raphnet it works perfectly. Tilt will be mapped as a button though.
My cousin gave me one of his X-plorer guitars, it has a sticky orange button, but it's an easy problem to fix, you just gotta blow into it. And I got it for free, so I'm not complaining.
He Shane Dawsoned on his guitar
@@Jay-cy8rs lol
It is currently 2022. Every adaptor for every kind of controller is either out of stock or overpriced to hell. At the moment, playing clone hero with a controller is realistically impossible for anyone on a budget and can't spend up to 100$ plus.
The options currently are find any guitar anywhere and then expect to wait and pay minimum of 50$ to maybe be able to play.
I'm genuinely surprised that no one has made a PC compatible controller yet.
agreed
exactly! they make you think the adapter for the wii controllers would be a good deal but hell no!! the price for the raphnet goes for $51 and thats without taxes.
"definitely give this one some love, dont go too hard on this one" you couldve told me this before i went for tdwdtg strumming at 300%
2:47 that's a weird looking guitar hero controller in the background. like, where are the buttons?
No strum bar either
No star power button
not even the wire!?
Its the pro guitar from rock band 3
nah bruv it's a wireless controller for rocksmith
This was pretty informative, but why did you do it while scuba diving?
wanting to get back into this guitar hero because i miss it so bad and this helped a lot. fresh into 2022 and prices are 20 ish dollars higher but i paid 55 for a wireless les paul, dont think i got ripped off too bad
Even if i never get into this game i appreciate the hell out of this video
I swear every rock band guitar in the world got teleported to my goodwill. I found 12 in two months

How is it?
Ik this is late but what about the gh5 guitar
@@danieltaylor4185couldn’t you just cut off the slide circuit
@@danieltaylor4185i ask about the gh5 tar specifically bc the slide bar uses different technology one it’s digital instead of analog
Honestly, my favorite controller is the WoR. Mechanically, it's not the best, but the shape of it is most comfortable for me (plus, replacing the strum switches and getting mechanical frets made it perfect)
Sadly it's rare
@@staringcorgi6475 and the dongles cost more than double the controller itself, which I think my dongles going out now, so that's fun
@@GaaraLover1792 what console the ps3 it's true and you should never use one for clone hero and for the Microsoft one use ebay
alternate title: "Brown man reviews 2020 guitar controllers."
Ludicrous, I know.
what was the specific adapter you bought? i’m really interested in getting a guitar controller and your comment is making steer towards the GH5 Wiitar
@@alextoledo53 I'm pretty sure it was from the person that made the solderless kit for GH guitars. I don't know their name o. UA-cam but I did get their adapter for less than 20$ including shipping.
@@alextoledo53 If you want a Raphnet, the V3 base model is a good option.
i recently found and picked up a warriors of rock wiitar for 2.50$ in a unknown condition at a flea market, a few days ago i finally got to test it and it works perfectly except for tilt not working at all, one of the best deals in my life.
Got a wireless PS3 Mettalica Guitar and it works just fine, never had any issues except the battery dying in the middle of a song. Since playing Clone Hero i became a lot better because its far more precise than on the PS3 so the latency can´t be that huge of a problem.
what adapter do you use?
