Amels are awesome, but this may not be the one for you. One of the first things would be upgrades to the electronics,, lithium,,, new water maker,, all expensive stuff.
And you still wouldn't have the third cabin, nor proper shower.
Keep looking,, don't give up! Luvya! 💖

Guys, if you want to know how the downwind sailing goes, just watch some of SV Delos's videos. They have set up their whisker poles and sailed for days comfortably in the right winds with little rolling. They are indeed beautiful boats. A big fat school bus of a boat yes, but that is what you want if you want to travel in safety and comfort. Oh and they can actually move too, when you want them too. Providing you've got the wind that is.

Just continue to look. After a while they all kind of blend together but when you find the one it will stand out. You are very smart to weigh the amount of work needed as when the length of a boat increases so does the cost of everything. Its a fine balance. Your thoughts Yosh on doing work on Nandji sums it up why whoever buys her will get a fine yacht!

Original and still working means that the systems were top shelf. For instance the original 34 year old FW water pump on our Amel is still in great shape as are the original furling systems. Compare that with changing modern pumps every 3 years or so. The price on this Mango however seems high since for another 50K you might be able to get a Super Maramu. Best of luck with your boat shopping.

Guys you can fit a shower and curtain like in the Super Maramu easily to a Mango very easily.
As for the downwind sailing setup it’s makes it possible for a mono to sail dead downwind. The twin pole setup and twin head sails with the balooner is the same on our boat it works fantastic.
Keep a look out I personally know where there is an Amel Super Maramu close to the price of that Mango, in Greece there are 2 Super Maramu’s for sale I know both boats personally.

That is a Beauty! However, the maramu has the shower stall and additional cabin you prefer! Amels are truly a prestigious and proven vessel. The price point for that vessel seems reasonable and with all the standing rig being new, that's a temptation for sure! Nanji has been good to you and as well You have been the same to Her! That's a tough one for sure. However, you have family needs too. May you all have a wonderful Christmas and always be Blessed! You are an Awesome Couple. I almost bought a Mango a couple of years ago. Absolutely gorgeous boat but we just missed out. In hindsight, it probably wouldn't have been for us as it was bigger than we needed and would have been too expensive to maintain. One issue with Amels is that they have a lot of cool features to make them easy to sail like multiple electric winches and extra rigging. While this is good, it means more work and money is required to keep everything running. In the end for the same money we bought a Westerly 43 which was 12 years younger and a better choice for us as a couple. But boy, Amels are cool boats and I can understand why their owners are so passionate about them.

Good decision. Pass on that boat. Way too much money. Don't be in a hurry. Be diligent. Look at everything. You're going to be surprised by the boat you eventually buy. Right now you think you want one thing but as you take your time and look at lots of options you will refine your criteria and find the right boat. My guess is it's not what you are thinking it is right now. You have the experience to know what you need and what you want. You will know it when you see it. If it doesn't feel right move on quick, lots of boats to see.

The Mango is still better than a Lagoon 450! Why not look at small older Privilege cats around 42 ft? Solid as! You'll be hard pressed to find 3 cabins under 50 ft in a mono. A few that come to mind are the Nauticat 42 and 43, Oyster and a few of the Moodys. You ofcourse have the charter versions of modern flimsy French monos but I wouldn't go bluewater in those with my family. Best of luck!

Not sure how old that boat is but my view is if a boat is 10 years old the systems may not be any more reliable than one that is 20 or 30 years except maybe for the engine depending on hours.
Are there two heads? If so convert one to a shower. Don't be afraid to make a low offer. No harm in trying.

Hello Legends! The Amel's are pretty sweet. The center cockpit and tons of storage below are a big plus. However 51 foot is a whole lot of boat to maintain especially for an older boat with a lot of hours on the engine and generator. I don't know if you are going to get 3 cabins on anything less than 50 feet long. Even SV Delos which is larger than the mango only had 2 main cabins, a pass through cabin and berth opposite of the saloon table seating area and they would sail with 7 adults. The cabin that you saw was too small actually should have a board that converts the entire berth into a large Queen/king bed. Best of luck on finding your next boat and a quick sale on Nandji. Thanks for sharing. Yew!

Much as the Amel mango is spacious, Yosh is right, you're buying an old boat with old problems. To not even have dry shower space on a boat that size is crazy...I've seen lovely conversions where this has been done...also the lack of defined cabins isn't great. If I were you, I'd buy a "younger" boat (albeit smaller) for less money and know you're getting reliability.

In my personal opinion, it would be the height of Bad JuJu to set sail under one name and to dock under a new name. If you decide on a new name as soon I as you take possession, there can be no bad JuJu involved especially if you hold an initial renaming ceremony.

I think there's 2 sides of this coin. I would agree that an Amel's potential maintenance costs are high given the complexity of her systems. I'm not sure I would recomnend an Amel for people with an average income AND a house. If however you take the house part out of the equation (being full-time liveaboards) my advice would be: go for it! You'd be hard pressed to find a better bluewater platform for a family. Those systems you mention are the envy of most offshore cruisers!
