Definitely! I tried it on my pc and it was easy as hell afterwords i showed this test to my girlfriend on her laptop and it was impossible to find the circles.

I do not even see how a test for this type of vision would even be possible on a regular monitor as you would probably have to go to a specialised facility to be tested for it. Although I am pretty sure I have above average colour vision, I highly doubt it is anywhere near the 100million mark.

So actually tetrachromacy is only expressed in women. When men have the gene, it often makes them colorblind. Might wanna look into that if you’re a man.

there's no way a standard computer screen, which emits THREE colors of light, could help you determine if you're a TETRAchromat... Tetrachromats by definition can see a fourth primary besides red, green and blue. Computer screens are only capable of producing red, green and blue lights. The fourth color that tetrachromats can see is not produced by standard computer monitors. Distinguishing between slightly different shades produced by the three trichromat primaries might be useful in determining the sensitivity of a normal trichromat eye's sensitivity, but it doesn't indicate anything with respect to tetrachromacy.
Being a tetrachromat has nothing to do with light at all, a tetrachromat's eyes can detect the UV portion of the EM spectrum.
Non tetrachromas can see from 1 million to 7 million colours. This is more of a test if you can see 7 million with 3 chromas. Even prophoto rgb won't help tetrachromas lol. A tetrachroma would have to develop a colour space and monitor that uses 4 primaries over 3.
I think it should be legal to murder anyone who thinks a regular computer can detect tetrachromia.
Tetrachromia is VERY rare, certainly not 25% and the only people who actually have it are women. If a man is ever diagnosed with tetrachromia, he's either trans or have a generic disorder. You CANNOT have tetrachromia with XY chromosomes. It's not possible. It requires 2 x chromosomes.
Most people have 3 working cones
Some have a certain cone being deficient.
VERY few can't see color at all.
Even fewer have 4 cones.
Things that do NOT prove you have tetrachromia.
Online tests
Knowing the exact name of colors
Noticing slight changes in gradient.
If you have not been officially tested, do not say you have tetrachromia. That is the ONLY way to know.
It's not like synesthesia where you can tell when you learn about it. There's no way to know without testing.

100% correct - I was tested for Tetrachromacy in 1987 in Belgium during a mass test. I was the only one ( much to the surprise of the female technicians) to be able to see all of the blue patterns during a Ishihara test....

@@universenerdd A mutated male chromosome has been identified that causes male tetrachomacy. ( Part of the human genome research projects going on around the world) This is very new research. Needless to say, it’s extremely rare in males but it does exist. It mimics the female mutation on the chromosome required for tetrachromacy. Mutations are part of the natural process as evidenced by blue eyes - these originated in Scandinavia about 10,000 years ago and have now spread across the planet.
To be a tetrachromat you need to have two different copies of a gene that sits on the X chromosomes. It might be possible to have this gene translated to an Y chromosome, but it would be extremely rare and AFAIK that has never been documented.
This was extremely easy. I answered basically immediately and got all of them right. I'm doubtful of the validity of this because of the hardware and software limitations of the video formatting and my phone screen, but I am really good at determining colour differences in my everyday life and am usually the first to notice when something's colour doesn't "look right". So I might look into getting a proper test eventually.
I only got 10/15 but then again I always have blue light turned off on my phone, I wonder if this kind of stuff affects the outcome?

Jacob this test isn't really reliable. Your computer/phone/whatever only has a so many colours it can do. This test can be more difficult or easy depending on your device and its quality.

There is a maximum level that a screen can show colours so this test is not based on vision as much as it is of the quality of screen and device.

Exactly. Not to mention if I look closely at my screen at any given time I can see the image of my keyboard and message window that has been burned into the screen, which made the stripes section much harder.

This is cool and all, but you can’t test tetrachromacy on a computer. a screen doesn’t have a wide enough range of colors to display to actually tap into that. Look it up if you don’t believe me
I'm a tetrachromat and this video made me sick... I mean: i really don't need a bunch of self-diagnosed "tetrachormats" talking about how awesome it is to see more colors! Seriously, my life is hell, i don't feel like anything is clean, my wall is full of annoying stains, nothing has a "solid" colour except for some very specific materials and there's some colours i'm able to see even in the f**cking dark!

Certainly not 2, but it is as rare as it can be! There are different levels of tetrachromacy based on how well formed are the cones and how many cone cells you have... But now that buzzfeed F'd up, there will be "tetrachromats" everywhere!
I'm not entirely sure (and so is my doctor) that there is a relation, but i do have photosensitivity and migraines.

I cant handle brightness so i always have my brightness at the lowest so it's not about your screen at all
brightness isn't the only thing that matters, and yes, screens to matter in tests such as these. Saturation comes into play huge on these tests. Me and my friend have tested this video, on my phone a mac laptop and on our 4k tv screen. Each time different results. Don't believe me, pull out your laptop, it's not that difficult! :)

He is saying that after you watch the video once you know what is what. While you are saying you could clearly see the difference with different computers/screens. Either he is being thick headed or he thinks you were actually taking this like a test.

i was weak on red and missed 2 but being a male with less visual color spectrum in the lower wave length i think i did well
*I turned off the blue light filter on my phone* to do the test, and it made a difference. I was able to see the differences in both cases, but with the filter off it was much easier to see some images.

I haven't done the test, nor do I plan on finishing this BuzzFeed video, but I like to think that I may be rare just to feel good about myself. I may or may not be the only man that is tetrachromatic, if women are the only ones. But I do see the multiple colors within a color. (Looked at my white door and saw reds and pinks and yellows and browns.)

This test is bogus. Your screen doesn't emit a spectrum outside the range of normal eyesight. The colors are different shades, not different hues. Therefore you should still be able to see a difference.

Dormant tetrachromacy, on the other hand, occurs in 12% of women, and is the same gene responsible for male protanomaly (a type of red-green color blindness)
I really hate to break it to everyone but standard screens literally can't produce the colors a tetrachromat would see. So no online test can tell you. You're just testing your regular color differentiating skills, which is still cool! But the only way to know for sure would be to go to an eye doctor and see if they could check.

This is true. In fact, color tests using computers can't even show you colors that people with normal color vision can see. Even the best monitors are limited to about 77% of the Lab color space (what the average eye can see). Kodak once developed a specialized color space for photography that reaches 90% of Lab color space plus additional colors humans can't see, but no computer monitor exists that can display it.
I got 100% on this test then took another test for tertachromat-ness and got it all right. My Dad's color blind and my mom's from a line of Asians with messed up eyesight therefore I have both genes but I have 20/20 vision and I often argue with people about what color things are. How does that work?
It all depends on what genes you inherited, and also what your body decided to express. You may have also had some crossover, or a mutation, in the DNA when the gamete(s) that made you were produced, giving you enhanced color vision and just better overall eyesight than the rest of your family.

Screens only work with RGB, it's like testing on a black and white screen to see if you're not colorblind, it just doesn't do the bit of ultraviolet tetrachromats see.
Screens don't have to have RGB, but because those are the only color's people see, all colored screens are RGB. Tetrachromats can't see ultraviolet unless they have there lens removed but anyone who gets there lens removed can see ultraviolet, also ultraviolet light over time would burn you're retners making you blind.
You're thinking of tetrachromacy in animals. The one human tetrachromat that exists has a yellow cone, not a UV cone

No, screens only work with RGB, it's like testing on a black and white screen to see if you're not colorblind, it just doesn't do the bit of ultraviolet tetrachromats see.

This test should be renamed "Do you have a good monitory, or a cheap monitor?" Because it really depends on your monitors... you can prove this by loading up the video on your phone, laptop, and monitor, you can tell the difference because one might be easier to see, one might be impossible to see.

I just wanna specify by saying being a tetrachromat doesn't mean you can see colors that don't exist, but instead more variations in hues of colors that already exist in the visible light spectrum.
That others can’t see. Like how bees can see ultraviolet. There are more colors than what we see and tetrachromat just sees more then the average person.

is this what i have then because those colors ur describing are what i have been seeing for 20 years. i started noticing them when i was 12 and i asked a few close friends if they can also see these three color dots floating full screen in there vision they looked at me like i was crazy so i never spoke about it to anyone else bot even my eye doctor until last month! but i grew custom to them kinda like how u don't pay attention to ur windshield and water spots and dust u pay attention to the road! but im afraid if i start doing for testing the docs might ruin what i have or make me worse! ill tell you this it helps with detecting motion at night like the different shades of shadows. its not like bight vision but can give me a sense of movement in the dark. it doesn't interfere with what regular people see in color. im only color blond in the red area like hot pink to me looks red and i only found out when buying car seats for my twins. people kept asking me if i had girls but there boys.😂 but back to the 3 dots, CAN ANYONE ELSE SEE THEM AND KNOW WHAT IT IS OR MEANS! is it a long term condition or it it just in my head?😮 i hope someone might have some sort of theory!!! but the Doc told me there is a test in which involves eye drops and pupils being dilated and looking through some scope for them to see some sort of Rays we produce and some stronger than most people!! pls if anyone has any idea or theory i would really enjoy learning about it!❤👀🧿🧿👁️👁️👁️🗨️👁️🗨️👓
I wish I had continuous spectrum vision. With trichromat vision (no yellow cones), I cannot tell whether a banana is yellow or green-red.

It pretty accurately shown my one weakness so it’s not that bad either. But being a tetrachromat and not doing any kind of art is pretty pointless anyway
Elina Blet It is A LOT rarer than 3%. Only 8 people have been formally diagnosed, though there are estimated to be about 5000 Tetrachromats worldwide.
My dad had tetrachromat so that explains why i got these all right.

It wasn’t a test for color blindness, it was a test to see if you are tetra chromatic, which means you have four retina cones. It probably just means you’re average.
If you look at some of the other comments, it have acutally more to do about your screen than if you can see them or not. I dont have any problems with cololrs irl, but i got around the same as you because of my computer screen xD

Being an artist wouldn't make a difference in how many cones your eyes have. If an artist is colorblind, they're still going to be colorblind after training. If a person has three cones, they're still going to have three cones after becoming an artist.

It would be nice to see some of these images uncompressed. The compression causes the colors at the edges to blend, often even adding up to darker shades. You can clearly see the effect at 1:29, unless of course those lines were added intentionally to make us all think we're special.
I don't think the SRGB colorspace covers the colours those with 4 eye chromas can see. Prophoto RGB is the closest you could get to it. But even that I doubt.

Aaron Slaven Depends what you mean by "new". If what you mean by new is that the colour is unnamed, it's quite easy! I'll make on right now, Missagistic blue, a shade of blue between Ariel and Cyan blue!
However, if you mean a colour group (blue, yellow, orange etc), it's not impossible, but rather extremely hard.
Uhh, guys ive taken 2 tetrachromat tests and got them right but my whole family, even my grandparents, have very messed up vision even though i went to the eye doctor and she told me i had 20/20 vision im still somewhat confused how this happens
All right. For the last one I just need a little bit more time to see, but I did get it before they revealed it.

The fourth cone that tetrachromats have is actually just yellow, tetrachromats don't see "10 times more colors" they can just distinguish the difference between a yellow that's a mix of green and red, and the actual yellow wavelength. They aren't magic, they just have a yellow cone.
all i gotta say is that i got a 100% on 2 tests i just took, but colorblindness doesn't run in my family. I do know that my mom sees white and gold for the dress and so do i. but my dad sees black and blue 🤷🏽♀️

I mean I got 100% points you could get. My dad is color blind, i'm a girl, and one day I looked in the mirror and boom. My left eye brown whilst the other green. I told my family but no one else saw it. I was frustrated and didn't know if there was something wrong with my ability to see colors. A few weeks later I tried showing them again and no one saw. But then all of a sudden my one friend stares at me for a moment, "You're eyes... their different colors :o" I was shocked that she could see it. A few days later 5 people did the same thing all in the same day. Then my family started noticing. I could see this color difference weeks and weeks earlier than everyone else. The color has only been enhancing since.

@@siddhesh6530 There are different types of colorblindness. They could have different cones missing/nonfunctional. Colorblindness can make some variations of color easier to see than those who have "normal" vision.

It's even more complicated than that some people see fewer colour shades. There are different levels of colour perception. Tetrachromacy is at one extreme. Some people see UV at higher bandwidths probably because they have thinner irises. This is obviously separate from colour blindness which is typically red/green but sometimes yellow/blue. I have been in disagreement over the colour of objects and materials and I think it might be related to this colour perception. I could count all but one of the colours in the test but others got fewer. I see very slightly more yellowish colour in one eye and very slightly bluer in the other. I think this is because of the iris shape and therefore one eye gets slightly more UV filtering than the other. UV is slightly purple and gets bluer until it becomes invisible to the eye. Any thoughts on this?

I can see some of the infrared spectrum. Especially infrared LEDs at night on peoples night vision security cameras. Its either looks slightly orange or pink to me. And i can see remotes when they change the channel if its dark enough in the room. Is that normal?
I had to pause for some seconds for 2 or 3 but I'm glad I got every single one just in case

I guess this means if you have more cones you can also see shades of black? I can see when black fabric or yarn is tinted more blue, red or green.
You don't see much of a difference in color until the paint on your walls has dried and realize you used an ever so slightly different shade!
