When I was still street-driving my '68 340-S Barracuda, I ran B-body mufflers w/ a crossover tube. The chrome tips fit into the 2-1/4" tail pipe ends that were swaged down to 2". I had the exhaust shop fabricate new slightly longer 2-1/4" tailpipes and cut the tips where they were the same diameter. This resulted in the minimum restriction yet, it was also quieter. I had the exhaust shop install flanges between the mufflers and tailpipes. The front of the new tailpipes had the hangers (NOT the muffler outputs). This setup allowed me to remove the muffler assembly for clutch work and about 50# of baggage at the strip. The mufflers slowed me down only about 0.05 second (probably due to the weight).
Nice change. When the Flowmasters croaked, I installed Dynomax VT's (now apparently out of production or nearly so). Much less resonance in the interior !
I happened on to Jones exhaust while searching straight through mufflers like Hooker Max Flo and MagnaFlow. Jones had a better design than the others with offset inlet and center outlet with their mandrel S bend when the others used straight pipe cut at angle. Couldn't believe how quite they were. We were running standard turbos with no crossover and installed Summit X pipe and Jones MAX flows and the it's quieter under full throttle and no drone. Jones ($36.97) outflows MagnaFlow($97.950 and is way cheaper. Prices are from Summit. I'll try to upload some videos.
I personally wouldn't miss the drone you get from the Flowmasters 40's at highway speed. I hated that on my big block Chevelle. I'm a big fan of all Dynomax stuff. Own Ultra Flows myself but, the Super Turbo's on the Dart here sound excellent.👍😁
I always thought Flowmasters sounded like shit----they're obnoxious, and they sound horrible under throttle. Turbos have that nice deep tone at idle, and they sound even better under full throttle with headers.
The Delta Flow Flowmasters are better than the original 40, not as much hollow sound, scavenge better too. The Super 40 has a nice deep rumble and the Delta 40 is fairly mellow in the cabin. That being said, I like the Super Turbos a lot, good flow and nice smooth tone that lets the natural engine sound out. I only wish they offered a version with no packing to make it a bit louder. I really like the straight through Ultraflo, those sound fantastic.
they drone like a mother and ill glaldy give up a few HP for not having a headache driving my baby on the street and this guys right they are nice sounding and bassy without the farty tomato can sound
super turbos are the best bang for your buck muffler, sounds great with the x-pipe! flowmasters are loud and flow like shit, super turbos are proven to flow better than a strait pipe.
I think adding some nice mandrel bent tailpipes would do your car great justice....would fatten up you torque curve by scavenging out those mufflers,I gained noticable low end on mine and the sound was amazing, sadly I dont own it anymore, but seriously you would not be disappointed, get some tails,it will make it more comfortable to drive around.
Flowmasters are Great for Loosing Horsepower and Torque, Dynomax Super Turbo's flow better than the Flowmasters, why would you want your exhaust to flow right into a Wall ? Look inside Any Chambered Flowmaster Inlet, and you'll see the "Wall" For Best Performance and Longevity Dynomax Ultra Flo Stainless Steel Mufflers ! The CFM numbers Don't Lie ! Flowmasters Suck !!!
Do you still have the super turbos on the car? How do you like them after having them on for a while? I'm thinking about switching to them. My chambered mufflers sound good but are a little too loud for as much as I drive my car.
Going to the track flow masters / daily streetster and overall crowd pleaser dynomax I might pick up a set for my 69 390 Im looking for Mello idle but attitude on the gas seems like it has both with the flo master I was about to do a rain dance sounded like bongo drums calling the natives ...
Do you remember where you got that front spoiler. I've been searching for one like that with no luck. Looks a bit like an older style "Direct Connection" item.
I didn't dyno the car before or after so it's hard to say. I didn't feel a noticeable power increase and if I did I would say it was because of the x-pipe and not the muffler
hey! sounds good, gotta say i like the turbos better myself. small or bigblock?? and cam size if you dont mind. i only ask because i have a duster w a 557/296 cam, just trying to compare. oh.....and exhaust size.....2.5...3in???
@@310creeper13 Oh Man, I was really liking your car till I read "thumper cam". Prefer to buy a cam for a particular performance characteristic and as for the sound at idle, you get what you get. But hey, everyone is different.
Where’s the tailpipes ?....used to hav a ‘72 with a 340....hookers into 2 1/2” into flow/m 50’s..2 1/4” full tailpipes with crossover... not loud like the 40 series and deeper tone... had short exit pipes by rear end but couldn’t handle the droning sound...
Dynomax is better all around. Quieter at idle, deeper in tone and I bet it doesn’t drone at cruising speeds.
Love the car. Love flowmaster but love the livability with dynomax super turbo even more. Mean looking car.
I ordered a set for My foxbody, trying to take it back to street mode for the winter and tame down the exhaust decibels from 3 inch x pipe and dumps
Turbo mufflers are great option for that
I have Dynomax Ultra Flow on my foxbody and love them compared to the Flowmaster that everyone seems to have on everything.

They sound both good.
This is a good example of how the X pipe gives you more of an exotic car tone compared to the classic muscle car tone of an H pipe.

That looks great with the inboard springs, man it's tough
The dynomax sounds better i figure.

+Kenneth Skipper that's the problem since I relocated the leaf springs in I have no room to go all the way back
+ernesto martinez Thats a bummer..
Not sure how in the hell a 3-way two bend muffler can flow better than a literal straight through pipe all other things equal -- that defies physics.
The best part about this video is how you never get to see the engine. Awesome.
Sounds great, not raspy.
Now I wonder what the Flowmasters would have sounded like with the x-pipe used...
They still would have sounded like canned shit. Flowbastards are for Fraud Motor Co and Chubby owners.
@@perryhvegholm2941 Flowmasters are great, if you like the sound of echo chambers.

For the flowmasters you shouldve done more pipe at the end.

Yes exhaust is still the same. I still think there great mufflers for my set up. I recommend them is you want to go a bit quieter.
Dynomax !! ....plus they flow more dude did a built 454 and got more hp on the dyno ..plus fmowmasters drone gets old fast
Mind giving the rear tire specs? Also, are the spring relocated? mini tub?
I want that hood!
Nice dart
nice comparison
were both no tailpipes?
Yes

Norman Connor I got it from a catalog years ago and I don't think it exist anymore
Flow master 50-series are a good sound level compromise.
hello ,, I wanted to know . did you lose any power with the turbo muffler,, thank you for any help..

how long?
Where did you get the hood from?
I molded the scoop to the hood
what size super turbos
Bob Snow 2 1/2
What's part # on the dynomax
Jamarcus Russell not sure the part number 2.5 offset in center out
what's she idle at?
900rpm
are those tti exhaust system?
sounds pretty great did you get some performance upgrade from the dual pipe to the Xshaped pipes?
The Flow Masters were a better sound in my opinion
Super turbos all day!! Dronemasters suck!

Flowmaster man.
I hate how flows sound 🤢
Bad to the bone
Flowmaster is way better
