I went with the electronic ignition and changed my electronic parts off the plate and put them under my seat by the battery because I have drag pipes and plus I live in Arizona, I don't ride during the hot summer but it's still pretty warm year round so my electronics kept burning up being so close to the front drag pipe after changing this and now all that's in the cone is the metal plate with the sensors that pick up the spark that goes to my coil then to my plugs and I haven't had a problem with it burning my electronics again because they are safe under my seat I put them in Styrofoam next to the battery, id suggest this for anyone with drag pipes on a bike that's custom built anyway so their electronics don't burn up that's if you're having that problem.

Hey brother I am having issues with my 92 softail heritage classic. I at first thought it was a carb or intake issues. But now that I really look into it I think it's the ignition module. All of a sudden the idle is erratic it's over heating and cutting out and a windings noise and lose of power not alot of loss but enough that I see a difference.

I am changing my Crane Hi 4 ignition on my 87 FXRS . It has given me 10 years and lots of miles without problem. I had a coil go bad and in my stupidity I shorted out my ignition trying to diagnose the bad coil. the stand off bolts that hold the timing plate in the nose cone ,{where you adjust the timing }, snapped off in the nose cone. I tried to drill them out easy out them re tap them . All to no avail . So now i have to buy a new cam cover , a few hundred bucks and lots of work. The standoff bolts just galled into the cover over time due to heat and time . I think maybe i would put anti seize on my new ones. Just saying. Sometimes lock tite can screw you over. I use anti seize on my rear brake caliper pin bolts . they don t vibrate loose and have not galled on me. It took me forever to remove original caliper bolts that were lock titied. Thanks for video . Great stuff.

Thanks for the vid. On the cam sensor plate are marks short and long regardless each mark ir 4 degrees but what are you lining them up with ? I also note that 35 degrees below top dead center is done or found out how? People are in some cases using the advance mark. It is different depending on the year of production. I am only interested in a 1985 FLHT-V2 engine

Hello.. I was wondering if you could help me? I bought a 88 softail the other day and on the way home it died on me. After some research I drilled the rivets out of the cam sensor positioning switch and it was melted a bit at the bottom. I bought a new one and put it in... fired right up. Man I was happy. Turned off the bike, went to buy a taillight bulb.. went to start it and its doing the same thing as it did before. The new one may have cooked too? Any ideas?? Thank you! 👍

I have read about these sensors melting (like what mine did on my 88' Softail Custom). I'm looking for some ideas of what I can possibly do? One idea I had was to use Heat Wrap just in that area an inch or two before the exhaust bends around the cam cover,, wrap it an inch or two after the cam cover? Any suggestions would be great! Because stock units use an external module.
      Aftermarket units are all inclusive.
Meaning the pickup and module are a single unit, mounted to the inside if the engine case.
